Entering a Company From Another World! – Chapter 124

Jiro Tanaka, 28 years old, married.
Wife: Suella Handelberg
Memoria Tris
Occupation: Dungeon Tester (Full-time employee)
Magic Aptitude: 9 (Quasi Demon Lord Class)
Position: Warrior

“So, where shall we head to next?”
“…”
“Alright.”

Dungeons come in a wide variety of environments. Especially since the dungeons our company handles are set up for Heroes, they require high defensive capabilities. Therefore, the content of these dungeons is also diverse. However, this time, there’s something else to focus on besides defensive capabilities.

“Gray, what kind of materials, no, what items are needed for a Vampire’s wedding?”
“Attire, accessories, food, and a protective stone.”

This is a worldly topic, irrelevant to my work, about what kind of items monsters drop. The key to choosing this dungeon lies in which monsters drop what kind of items and what lives in which dungeon. I intend to procure all the necessary items Gray mentioned on-site within the dungeon. I thought a Vampire’s wedding must be quite elaborate, but Gray mentioned that one should prepare things that are appropriate for their status. A wealthy merchant would use their wealth to demonstrate their status, while a warrior would use their strength to show theirs. Although there’s a difference in the yardsticks of wealth and military power, as the latter, I have prepared my equipment and come before the dungeon. Unfortunately, I lack knowledge of the customs of Isal regarding attire and accessories, so I’ve immediately had to rely on others.

“Can we find them in this dungeon?”

I was prepared to push myself to my limits for them, but I’m struggling to judge whether the items Gray mentioned can actually be obtained in this dungeon, as it’s too uncertain. Should I search for monsters that drop materials for thread, or should I tackle a dungeon with mines to unearth jewels? The only thing I can handle is the cooking aspect, but due to fresh ingredient preservation requirements, I can’t get involved in that before the wedding. That’s why I asked the question.

“I don’t know this dungeon very well, so perhaps we should go to a place Gray is familiar with. What do you think?”
“Yes, that would be better.”

However, my father-in-law and the other seem to be thinking differently than I am. It’s certainly better to go to a place one knows rather than an unknown one, but the question becomes, where is that place?

“Father-in-law(s), could you explain it in a way that’s easier for me to understand?”
“Hmm.”
“Ah, sorry. We haven’t entered this dungeon either, so we thought it would be better to go to a dungeon where we have at least some information.”
“A dungeon other than this one?”
“Yes, this is a dungeon that holds the latest secrets of the Demon Lord’s Army, after all. We don’t have permission to enter it, so we thought we should go to a dungeon on our continent.”

From my perspective, it’s a place I frequent, but I suppose it’s different depending on one’s position.

“In that case, will I be alright? Going to the continent means crossing national borders, doesn’t it?”
“Probably. I heard there’s something called a ‘Shine Show?’ It functions as an identification card.”
“That thing?”

A driver’s license-like ID card with a photo was given to me a few days after joining the company, but I never thought it would have such a capability. I was told to carry it at all times and was given it in a special, unnecessarily sturdy but lightweight pass case, so I still have it.

“If you have it, let’s go right away. We don’t have time to waste.”
“Understood.”
“…”

Gray, could you please converse a little more? I followed behind Gray, who started walking without a word, but he didn’t say where we were going. Still, I soon realized our destination.

“Emergency exit?”
“No, it’s the teleportation room.”

It’s a panel illuminated by LEDs above a heavy door, like a fire exit, installed next to the dungeon room. The color is different, and the writing isn’t in Japanese but in Isal, but the stick figure running towards a door is unmistakably the emergency exit mark. It’s red, unlike the green ones in Japan, but I doubt there’s much difference.

“It takes effort to set up spatial teleportation arrays, so it’s not uncommon to find the same facility adjacent to the gate.”
“Like a main water valve?”

Since the characters were illegible and I hadn’t been taught about it, I never paid attention to it. Gray opened the door first, and inside, there was a simple table, and a Dark Elf man resembling a clerk sat at a chair, with two fully armored Oni standing guard. Beyond them was another door, resembling a fire wall.

“Proceed with the teleportation procedures.”

Honestly, Gray, can’t you be a little more considerate of my pace? I can’t keep up.

“Three people, correct?”
“Yes.”
“Please present your identification.”

Well, I’m remaining silent because I don’t know how to go through the procedure. The Dark Elf processed the procedures matter-of-factly. When I presented my employee ID, his eyes widened for a moment. I thought there might be a problem, but without anything being said, he took out another document and presented it to Gray. After reading it, Gray quickly signed it. I have been studying Isal, but I didn’t understand the content because it was full of words I didn’t know. I also filled out the transfer procedure form that was presented to me. Since it was in Japanese, I finished writing it in just a few minutes.

“That will be all. Please proceed to the back.”
“Understood.”

Seriously, Gray, let’s talk a little more. You’ve only been saying single words since earlier. Mait, please say something too instead of just smiling. I walked behind Gray, who was striding along. As I passed by one of the Oni, I glanced at his face and thought he was the same Oni I wrestled with at the banquet. He seemed to recognize me too and grinned at me. I lightly waved my hand in response and walked straight through the door opened by the other Oni.

“Speaking of which, what was that document Gray was writing earlier? It seemed like he wrote one more than us.”
“It’s a guarantor form. It’s a document stating that Gray will be Jiro’s guarantor.”
“What, really? Is that alright?”
“Hahaha, as long as you don’t get into any trouble, it’ll be fine. The guarantor form is mostly a formality unless something serious happens. I could have written it, but Gray did it so quickly.”

A long corridor, so wide it also served as a material loading bay. While we were talking, we passed by trolleys loaded with goods and what seemed to be Demon Lord’s Army employees returning from visiting their families. I brought up the topic thinking it would be better than walking in silence for so long, but I couldn’t hide my inner surprise at how Gray had smoothly handled such an important procedure.

“Gray probably trusts you, Jiro, as he will be Memoria’s husband. He didn’t hesitate when writing the document. So, I’m not saying you shouldn’t worry about it, but you don’t need to think about it too much. If I were in Gray’s position, I would have done the same thing.”

Mait explained with a smile, trying to put me at ease. It seems he trusts me and went through the procedures for me. I looked at Gray’s back as he told me he would take responsibility if anything happened. I can’t quite figure out what he’s thinking, but his feelings for Memoria are certainly genuine. I wondered if this was what they meant by a father who speaks through his actions.

“Father-in-law Gray.”
“?”
“Thank you.”
“…Don’t worry about it.”

The glance back and the exchanged words were brief. He seemed to grasp what I was thanking him for for a moment, but then he nodded in understanding and replied. So, I didn’t leave it at that and tried to bring up another topic, and I realized. This person, though perhaps not adept at expressing himself, isn’t as taciturn as I thought. If asked what he likes, he’ll tell me his favorite food. As I got used to him, he also started asking me questions. While conversing with Mait as well, the journey wasn’t long enough to truly get to know each other, but I still felt it was a fulfilling time. Just as I felt we had become a little more acquainted than yesterday, the path ended, and we emerged into an open space.

“This is the teleportation array.”

What appeared before my eyes was a stone circle utilizing crystals. In the center of a large magic circle, designed to constantly circulate magic and maintain a vast amount of magical power, was a stationary, mist-like magical energy that glowed. People from various races within the Demon Lord’s Army were coming and going from it. Some entered, and some emerged. The center seemed to be the transfer point, and guides were organizing the queues to avoid collisions, directing people towards the center. We also lined up and waited for our turn.

“Next, three people?”
“Yes.”

As we waited quietly for our turn, the crowd thinned out quickly, and our turn arrived soon. Gray, who was already in charge of this group, nodded at the words of a Lizardman soldier in armor. His gaze lingered on me for a moment, but the situation was resolved when Gray presented the guarantor form.

“Do not act alone over there. Unlike here, there are almost no humans. Be careful.”
“Yes.”

I replied to the Lizardman soldier’s warning.

“Let’s go.”
“It should be fine if you walk between Gray and me. Shall we go, Jiro?”
“Yes.”

They walked, flanking me, and we entered the mist of magic. I felt a slight resistance, not like pressure, but like something was pushing back. For a moment, the floor vanished beneath my feet, and then I felt a different sensation on the floor. Then, I felt the density of magic, similar to when I first entered a dungeon. I continued to follow Gray’s slightly blurred back and soon emerged from the mist.

“It’s blinding.”

As soon as I emerged, light spilled out, and I instinctively squinted. The light sources were illuminating fixtures that looked like lamps. They were installed everywhere, illuminating the room of this facility. I almost stopped in my tracks, but since Gray didn’t stop, I continued to follow him. After several instances where Gray had to show his guarantor form, we were able to leave the place that served as a collection point and a station.

“It’s huge.”

I, who had been silent until then, involuntarily widened my eyes at the sight of the pale blue moon shining in the sky. Unlike the sun, the moon, which shouldn’t shine on its own, was illuminating the land with its own power, and I felt a sense of strength from that sight.

“Welcome to Anatalis, the continent of our Demon Race.”

I now stepped foot onto the continent ruled by night.
