Timing the opponent’s attack to subside, Minami counted down on her fingers, and with the aurora’s cessation, the eight-headed dragon began to move as well.

“Kaido, Amelia! I’ll leave this to you! Let’s go, Kitamiya, Katsu!”

“Yeah! I can handle it!! You guys work hard too!”

“OK! I’ll show you my full power! Karen-chan, Katsu-kun, be careful!”

“Yes! Leave it to me.”

“Yes! We’re going!”

And with that, I took Kitamiya and Katsu and dashed off.

I thought we’d be attacked if we split into two groups, but.

“Now! Take the rest of my magic power too, Kaido-senpai! One more time! Full Support Enchantment!!”

“Alright!! Bring it on!!”

Kaido struck the shield I gave him with his sheath, trying to draw its attention. Still, if the heads didn’t take the bait.

“Looking away is NO go! Understand!”

With a great magic spell, she created a pseudo-taunt effect.

Amelia’s immense magic power.

A torrent of magic that she couldn’t possibly cast while moving. Suppressing it, she unleashed a spell superior to anti-fortress magic.

“This is the strongest magic I can cast right now!”

It was a desperate move to attract the enemy’s attention with its threat.

The unleashed magic then changed its nature, stirring up a whirlwind.

Her specialty was wind magic.

But what she was about to create wasn’t a spell to cause a giant tornado.

The storm condensed in her hands. The storm, physically reduced in density, didn’t lose its momentum but became even more violent and raging. Sweat flowed down Amelia’s forehead as she tried to control this small yet tyrannical natural disaster.

“Phew! This is bad! I don’t want to drink this anymore!”

While Amelia struggled, Minami, with her right hand on her hip, downed a magic replenishment potion as if drinking milk.

It was an essential item for backliners, but the taste was as bad as expected. It’s one of those items you should be careful about using too often, as it can make you feel unwell. Normally, she wouldn’t just toss it away, but this was an emergency.

“Now, Kaido-senpai, we need to hold out until the leader reaches his destination.”

She did her best as a support to draw its attention.

“Leave it to me! I didn’t work for a black company for nothing.”

“Hahaha, I hope you can do it quickly. I tried it, and I might have failed a little.”

“…”

Or so it was supposed to be.

While Kaido was drawing its attention with her vast magic and defending against its attacks, Amelia, who had made a mistake in the spell’s composition, heard her words. The smile she had been wearing moments before disappeared, and Kaido and Minami exchanged glances.

“Hurry up, senpai! (Gozaru!)”

They cheered me on as I ran.

“Seriously, what are they doing?”

“Really.”

“Minami…”

Leaving the unreliable backline situation behind, Kitamiya and Katsu, chuckling wryly at their current predicament of facing a dragon with bare hands, ran alongside me.

“Alright, I’m counting on you two from here on. Get me there safely.”

“Yeah, yeah, go on then.”

“Leave the support to me.”

We continued to approach the Skull Dragon.

“Wait, I guess I can’t keep all the heads occupied.”

“Naturally.”

“I think it’s good enough that only three are left.”

“No doubt.”

I reinforced my body with the magic within me. From here on, I had to move quickly forward while conserving some magic power.

“Focus only on moving forward. Minami and the others will handle the chaos behind us.”

“Yes.”

“Yes!”

Don’t look back, look forward. I confirmed three heads that looked like they were about to breathe fire.

“Fire and Water, and Earth!”

“One is enough! Kitamiya! Silence the fire! Katsu, the flashbang!”

“Yes!”

Fighting while running is our specialty. With Katsu, who pulled the pin and threw the spheres towards the three heads, at the rear, we accelerated further.

About two hundred meters to our destination.

If we could just run straight, it would take less than ten seconds.

“Ice Snow Battle Hammer!”

But that was assuming there was no interference. Indeed, the Skull Dragon breathed fire, trying to kill us. One of its heads, swinging upwards, hit a giant ice hammer, and the breath was diverted into the sky. What about the remaining two heads?

“Excuse me for a moment.”

I wasn’t sure if the flash would work against a dragon, even though it was just bones, so the two lightning spears, unleashed under the cover of the flash, shifted those heads to the sides. There was no time to boast about casting mid-level magic without an incantation, and the diverted breath struck the ground.

Remaining distance: 150 meters. Three heads approached again, trying to stop us. I predicted that by the time we reached fifty meters.

“…It’s going to happen.”

“Is everything going to be alright?”

The Skull Dragon’s chest area began to glow again.

“Last time, I managed not to get turned into charcoal.”

“What do you mean?”

For us, it was a development that, while not ideal, was the second-best option. We couldn’t afford to have such a high-powered aurora fired off repeatedly. I immediately took action after it was fired, but no one said it couldn’t be fired again. Ideally, we would have rushed into its embrace, but if it was going to fire, that was fine too. I said a single word of encouragement. Kitamiya, with a wry smile, said he would leave it to me. And with Katsu’s expectant gaze on my back, I took another step forward.

Katsu and Kitamiya followed behind me, providing support with magic items and spells.

“I’d rather not get hurt.”

As I ran, I dodged and sometimes struck back at the Skull Dragon’s attacking heads. The remaining distance was less than fifty meters. Watching the light intensify with each passing second in its chest, I prepared for what was to come, with a wry smile and my hands still moving.

The magic I was about to use for the second time was Pile Regret. And this time.

“But sadly, I don’t have the luxury of considering my own weight.”

I increased the number of previously formed circles, thereby amplifying its power. With ample magic power and stamina, and with Minami’s enhancements, it was a power that pushed the limits before self-destruction. The recoil was something I didn’t want to think about. The one formed in my left hand was merely a feeble attempt to preserve my dominant arm.

“And it’s about time.”

If I charged forward and struck it with this, I could expect considerable damage, but that wouldn’t be enough. Two more moves were needed. And the next move was coming.

“It’s here.”

A grin spread across my lips. I felt an immense torrent of magic power. The moment I sensed the source of that magic, I changed my forward momentum to the opposite direction.

“Here it comes! Kitamiya! Katsu! Get away!!”

“!!”

We jumped back with all our might, as if on cue. The opponent had no time to question our movement. After all, it was using five heads to try and stop us. That Kaido fellow managed to protect us properly.

The minuscule sphere that rose into the sky. Just that alone changed the atmospheric conditions, and I could feel a hole open in the sky.

“Absolute Downburst!”

And Amelia’s voice echoed. The moment that spell’s name reverberated through space, what erupted was the absolute violence of a storm falling from the sky. As it soared into the sky, it absorbed all the surrounding air, momentarily creating a void. The storm exploded to fill that void, acquiring directionality and forming a maelstrom that gouged the ground from the heavens.

“Ice Wall! Katsu-kun, get behind me!”

“What about Jiro-san!?”

“He won’t die! …Probably!”

Beneath such a phenomenon, the Skull Dragon was pinned to the ground, endlessly sliced by the wind blades. A brutal combination of pressure and slashes. However, it still didn’t stop moving. The magic of the aurora didn’t weaken; rather, it resisted the storm, trying to shower us with light, and its massive body slowly began to rise from the ground. I knew that if it wasn’t killed in one blow, this would be a repeating cycle.

“That’s why!”

Amidst this, it was obvious that they would target Amelia, who was exhausted and unable to move, by unleashing such an immense magic. It assumed a firing posture for the aurora. I waited for the moment it would be unleashed. Within the storm, I didn’t seek refuge behind Kitamiya’s ice wall, accepting the risk of being injured myself, and hid within the gale, waiting for this moment.

“What will happen to your body if you detonate that magic you’re about to fire!!”

If I had been a second later, I might have been exposed to the aurora and suffered the same fate as last time before I could deliver this blow. But.

“Pile Regret!!”

The Pile of Regret pierced the dragon’s chest, which was in the process of preparing to fire.

“■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■!!”

A roar issued from its eight heads. It was a roar that shook the entire canyon, and it was hard to believe such a sound could come from bones.

“Tsua!?”

I couldn’t afford to pay attention to that. I was hit by the recoil of the magic I had used. My left arm was gone. My shoulder was probably shattered too. Conversely, I could say it was fortunate that only that much was lost. Without Minami’s support, my arm might have been torn off. I endured the pain.

“Still not done!!”

It wasn’t defeated. I realized that. My prediction was that by piercing the aurora, I would cause an internal explosion and defeat it. But that prediction was wrong. The aurora failed to fire, and my pile ended up piercing its unguarded chest. No, it was a fact that it had taken considerable damage by combining Amelia’s magic and mine. Not wanting to miss this opportunity, my screaming instincts made me ignore the pain in my left arm.

“If one hit isn’t enough, then I’ll just hit it again!”

Clenching my right arm, I gathered my magic and formed another pile. And I closed the distance again, having been sent flying by the recoil. I poured all my remaining magic into it, shaking my left hand, and staked everything on this one blow. I saw that the Skull Dragon was unable to move due to the barrage of great magic. The regeneration had stopped, and the storm had ceased, but its razor-sharp blades continued to slice its body. The first pile had created a large vortex in its chest. Believing that hitting the same spot would secure victory, I put strength into my legs and jumped.

“Form!”

But my instincts told me to go all out. I added more magic to the pile prepared in my right hand. Not adding an attribute to pure magic. Adding pure magic to pure magic.

“Double Pike!”

Another pike appeared side-by-side. Reason screamed at me to stop, but instinct told me to do it.

“Take this! Twin Pile Regret!!!!”

A third click echoed through the canyon. The Pile of Regret, formed in the shortest and fastest way possible, cast aside the notion of its own weight and unleashed destructive power that made one regret its very name.

“Kaf!?”

The recoil of that destructive power returned to me. My right hand was also crushed. My consciousness skipped for a moment. When I regained consciousness, it must have been because my landing was good when I crashed to the ground.

“Jiro-san! What are you doing!? Katsu, treat him!!”

“Y-Yes!!”

“More importantly, what happened!?”

I don’t know how long I was unconscious, but it was only a few seconds. I apologize to Kitamiya and the others who are rushing towards me, but there are things more important than treatment right now.

“No way!? He’s alive after taking that.”

“It’s regenerating.”

With a rumbling sound, its bones shattered in various places, and despite sustaining damage that should have made it unable to stand, its massive body tried to rise.

“No way, how can we defeat something like that?”

“….There’s no way we can win.”

Looking at the scene, Kitamiya and Katsu were about to give up. I thought it was understandable. With my arms in this condition, I couldn’t fight any longer. It was still possible to retreat while it hadn’t fully regenerated.

“!? That was close.”

Just as I was thinking of retreating, something too large to be called a bone fragment fell from the sky. It landed about two meters in front of us. I thought I would have died if it had hit me.

“Seriously!”

If this was the work of providence, I couldn’t be more grateful to that god. From within the bone fragment, an Ore Tree, slightly lighter in color, revealed itself. I forced myself to stand up and, moving my numb right hand, grabbed the handle that protruded conveniently.

“Finally found you, partner!”

The moment the dripping blood fell onto the Ore Tree, it happened. It pulsed, and the roots of the Ore Tree entwined with my arm.

“What!?”

I was surprised by the sudden event and couldn’t let go. In the meantime, the Ore Tree spread its roots around my arm, and it happened.

“AGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”

“Jiro-san!?”

“What is it!”

The buried bone cracked with a pop, and the full form of the Ore Tree was revealed. But I was too consumed by the heat from within my body to pay attention.
