Chapter Nineteen: Surrounded by Wolves!
As the light of the magic array grew brighter, Su Jiu discovered that she had completely signed a contract with this little silver snake as a contracted beast.
She felt a connection as strong as blood, feeling as if she were dreaming. It was important to note that between the Warrior Class and the War General Level, the spiritual space could only accommodate one contracted beast.
Contracted beasts were common among those above the Warrior Class. They would contract corresponding monsters or demonic beasts according to their own martial arts type. After contracting, demonic beasts could not only be used as mounts but could also transform into weapons for combat.
Su Jiu’s eyelids twitched. She looked at the little silver snake coiled around her wrist like a carved ornament, feeling utterly frustrated.
She had originally planned to spend money to get a sword-type demonic beast as rare as the Male Protagonist Bai Ming’s Holy Light Horned Horse. She thought that not only could the male protagonist’s contracted beast evolve into a legendary creature—a unicorn, but its White纓 Long Spear, when transformed at the Warrior Class, was incredibly cool.
“Mommy, I’m hungry.” The little girl’s voice sounded in Su Jiu’s mind again, sounding somewhat pitiful.
Everything was ruined now. She had contracted a gluttonous snake. It must have been the one that destroyed the egg and sneaked in, right?
Su Jiu didn’t know what this little silver snake ate. Just as she was about to feed it egg liquid directly, the little silver snake on her wrist had already slithered into her pocket.
Reaching into her pocket to feel around, Su Jiu found that the little silver snake’s mouth was bulging. She suddenly remembered that she had kept the last segment of Dragon Whiskers Ginseng in her pocket. She immediately freaked out.
“My Dragon Whiskers Ginseng! Spit it out, you glutton!”
She grabbed the little silver snake by its tail and kept tipping it upside down until the little girl’s voice rang in Su Jiu’s mind again:
“Mommy, I’m so hungry… I haven’t eaten anything for a long time.”
Hearing the voice, which had a tinge of crying, Su Jiu paused slightly. The image of the pitiful little girl automatically appeared in her mind. Her heart instantly softened, and she sighed, “Three conditions: you’re not allowed to eat things randomly anymore, and I’ll give you delicious food in the future.”
“Since you’re so greedy, I’ll call you ‘E Huo’ from now on.”
It was like raising a pet. Even if she didn’t have a good beast-transformed weapon below the Battle King Level, she would still be invincible among peers with a standard steel sword.
“Mmm, mmm…” The little silver snake flicked its tongue, swaying its body gently. It seemed to not care much about names.
Su Jiu thought that most people’s contracted beasts stayed in the spiritual space because they couldn’t adapt to human cities and could easily frighten ordinary people. So she tentatively asked, “Don’t you want to go into the spiritual space?”
“The little dark room is too dark and uncomfortable.”
The little silver snake transformed back into an exquisite bracelet, its eyes like rubies emitting brilliant light. It seemed that the small half-segment of Dragon Whiskers Ginseng had made it very comfortable.
It also seemed as if some trick had succeeded…
Bai Qianyu watched Su Jiu talking to herself, completely bewildered. She figured that even if she contracted this ungraded demonic beast, she wouldn’t be able to communicate mentally.
However, Su Jiu was too stunned by the appearance of the little silver snake to consider this. Would ordinary demonic beasts have such intelligence? And could they forcibly sign a contract with her?
…
Mid-mountain, at the campsite.
“There’s always a smell of dead rats…”
A gust of wind carrying a strange smell blew onto Su Xiaoyu’s face, who was now truly awake. He wrinkled his nose slightly and glanced at his classmates who were bragging around the campfire not far away. He felt an inexplicable sense of unease.
He took out his phone and opened the profile picture of an anime girl with white hair. The latest two messages were:
[Sis, are you home yet?]
18:49
Trash Sis: [Not yet. I’m coming to find you, don’t run around.]
One minute ago
Suddenly, a cool breeze blew again. Su Xiaoyu realized that a huge figure was standing behind him. A chill instantly spread from his toes to his entire spine.
He clenched his fists in his mind, about to turn around and punch directly, when a familiar male voice came: “Young Master Xiaoyu, don’t wander around at night… Master specifically instructed that you must not have any accidents.”
Upon hearing this, Su Xiaoyu breathed a sigh of relief, turned his head, and saw one of the Lin Family guards.
He then nodded lightly and walked towards the campsite, silently cursing himself for scaring himself.
At this moment, for some inexplicable reason, the dark clouds in the sky suddenly dispersed, and bright moonlight shone down, clarifying the surrounding scenery. The Lin Family guard’s shout came from behind: “Scarlet Flame Wolf?”
Hearing this, Su Xiaoyu instinctively turned around. As he turned, his face instantly showed terror, and his legs began to tremble uncontrollably. Was this three-meter-long, nearly two-meter-high creature the Scarlet Flame Wolf from the textbooks?!
Weren’t there no ranked demonic beasts here? He felt like he could barely breathe just by being stared at by the Scarlet Flame Wolf.
“Enemy attack! Young Master Xiaoyu, quickly go call Lin Wu and the others!” the guard shouted, tapping his forehead lightly. Heat emanated from his body as he used “Avatar” and quickly drew his weapon to prepare for battle.
“Okay.”
Su Xiaoyu’s throat constricted slightly, then he gritted his teeth and ran towards the campsite, shouting as he ran, “Scarlet Flame Wolves are attacking, everyone be careful!”
His voice was still very effective. Instantly, lights flickered on in the campsite. Lin Wu and another guard quickly came to the side of the previous guard.
“It’s a Warrior Class demonic beast!”
“Am I going to die?”
“This is so much more terrifying than in the textbooks. Will we really have to face such monsters in the future?!”
The students’ first reaction was the same as Su Xiaoyu’s: panic and fear. This was the first time they had seen such a terrifying demonic beast in real life.
Lin Liuer used the horn she had been playing with earlier and shouted loudly: “Don’t be afraid everyone, it’s just a Scarlet Flame Wolf. My cousin and them can easily kill it.”
Lin Liuer was quite confident with her cousin and the other two taking on one Scarlet Flame Wolf.
“Little Red.”
Unlike the previous guard, she closed her eyes slightly, her demeanor changed, and she murmured a name. A scarlet-hot snake over a meter long suddenly coiled around her arm and then transformed into a three-foot-long fiery red longsword.
Lin Wu’s aura was amplified infinitely by the longsword, making her look like a fiery female war god.
The Scarlet Flame Wolf actually showed a hint of fear on its face.
Lin Wu’s eyes narrowed, she tightly gripped the red longsword, and charged directly at the Scarlet Flame Wolf. The two guards beside her protected the other students.
Lin Wu immediately became entangled with the Scarlet Flame Wolf. It would take her some time to kill a Scarlet Flame Wolf alone.
After about a minute of fighting, Lin Wu’s eyes narrowed. She swung her longsword horizontally, leaving a bone-deep wound on the Scarlet Flame Wolf, and blood splattered everywhere.
“Good!”
“Scarlet Flame Wolves are just like that. I can kill them easily after learning the skill.”
“You? From Class C, hahahaha.”
The students gathered around the campfire cheered, their faces showing eagerness, as if Warrior Class demonic beasts weren’t that terrifying after all.
“Roar!” In pain, the Scarlet Flame Wolf roared towards the sky and fled towards the jungle. Lin Wu’s face showed a look of disdain.
After staring for half a minute, she turned and struck a rather dashing pose for the students. However, the students who had been cheering just now couldn’t say a word.
Their faces were as pale as corpses. Lin Wu looked at her companions in confusion, finding that their faces were also filled with extreme terror.
At this moment, one of the students, trembling, pointed behind Lin Wu and said, “Eyes… so many pairs of eyes.”
Lin Wu turned in confusion and saw the scene. The longsword in her hand almost dropped, her arms trembled uncontrollably, and her expression wasn’t much better.
“A wolf pack with a leader wolf?! There must be over twenty of them?”
