Chapter 368: Trainer (3k)
“Emergency, gather at the church! Emergency, gather at the church…”
As the jeep got closer, its headlights shone on the faces of the three people. A horn was ridiculously attached to the back of the vehicle. Except for the sound being in English, it was not much different from the hawking carts of market grandmas.
Listening to the broadcast, Su Jiu squinted, looking through the light, and quickly spotted the two people wearing silver-white masks inside the jeep. They were also wearing white coats like doctors, and a long, thin white feather was inserted on the left side of their masks.
“Is this the White Feather organization? One is an Initial Stage Battle General, and the other has reached the Mid Stage Battle General Level. No wonder ordinary people can’t resist.”
Having confirmed that the two opponents were only at the Initial Stage Battle General Level, Su Jiu subtly pulled Bairnis behind her and looked into the car again. Suddenly, one of the masked individuals seemed to notice Su Jiu’s gaze, raised his hand, and signaled his companion driving to stop.
“These are trainers from White Feather. We absolutely cannot provoke them. I remember some people who resisted were directly arrested.”
As if noticing the jeep stopping in front of them, the child tightly clutched Su Jiu’s sleeve and hid behind her. Only a head peeked out from the side, cautiously staring at the two approaching trainers, and reminded in a low voice.
Seeing the two get out of the jeep, Su Jiu turned to the child with a hint of surprise and quietly asked, “Trainers? What does that mean?”
“It means people who train us, making us obey orders. If we don’t obey, force might be used.” The child said with continued worry. She knew Su Jiu and the other were good people, but their strength was clearly insufficient, especially seeing how young they looked. After all, these trainers were beings that even the Mokala heroes couldn’t deal with.
Her father also…
Stopping about two meters away from Su Jiu and the others, the two trainers sized up Su Jiu in the light, their gazes finally landing on her red armband.
“We haven’t seen you two in Chocala City. Are you priests who came from outside while we were in a meeting?”
One of the trainers, who looked older, spoke slowly, his voice somewhat sharp, like grinding glass with sand.
Seeing the face of a Dragon Country citizen, he didn’t act rashly. This was a resident of that country. If they had some tracking device on them, it would be troublesome.
After all, residents of that country could not be bullied as easily as those here. If they accidentally provoked someone from that place, it would be fine if it only involved issues between the government and the Law Enforcement Hall.
If the Night organization pursued them, that would be truly disastrous, as those people were no less ruthless than themselves.
“We’re here to refuel. If you two know where the gas station is, could you please tell us?” Su Jiu smiled faintly, her expression unchanged. She pointed to the motorcycle by the roadside and said softly.
“Gas station?”
The two trainers exchanged glances and saw the confusion in each other’s eyes. The slightly older trainer waved his hand and pointed to the east, answering in a deep voice, “The gas station here has been completely converted into an alchemy base. And a few kilometers east of the city, there’s an unattended gas station. Didn’t you notice?”
Evidently, he thought Su Jiu was fleeing from the east, but he overlooked the neatness of their clothing, which didn’t look like they were running away.
“So it’s outside?”
Nodding, Su Jiu looked somewhat surprised. No wonder they had been going in circles, visiting everywhere except the city center marked with yellow tape, yet hadn’t found a gas station.
As for the so-called alchemy base, it was most likely built near the church, which was also the city center covered in yellow tape.
“We are a local medical organization, similar to you, responsible for treating civilians.”
Seeing Su Jiu’s reaction, the slightly older trainer breathed a sigh of relief, as if they didn’t know what had happened in the city. He then lowered his voice, “Alright, since you two know where the gas station is, hurry up and leave. Don’t delay our important meeting later.”
“Important meeting… It’s already midnight. What important meeting do you two have? Can I join?” Su Jiu asked with half-closed eyes, not leaving as they expected. She had a feeling this meeting might be related to her forcefully delaying the war.
“No! The meeting is only for residents of this city. Outsiders should not be allowed in.” The younger trainer quickly spoke up, clearly wary of anything related to the church being exposed.
“Only for residents of this city? We are also doctors. If possible, let us join the discussion.”
Su Jiu raised her eyebrows, her gaze falling on the church with a cross on its roof. A strange smile appeared on her face. Her fingernails, hidden in her sleeves, suddenly grew out, emitting a faint blue fluorescence, like exquisite knife tips, waiting for those about to be tasted.
“Have you two come into contact with the local residents? They have many diseases, and if not treated promptly, it’s easy to get infected.”
Hearing Su Jiu’s words, the slightly older trainer, as if realizing something, gratuitously released his pressure on Su Jiu and the other.
Then, with a hint of killing intent in his eyes, his gaze fell on the child behind Su Jiu. With a chilling smile, he slowly approached the child, his sharp voice sending shivers down one’s spine.
“Little rascal, come with Uncle, I’ll take you to get treated.”
His attention had been on Su Jiu and the other before, and he hadn’t noticed the trembling child. Hearing Su Jiu’s words now, he realized Su Jiu might already know what had happened here.
Looking at the rather frightening face, the child shrank further behind Su Jiu, fear in her eyes, and said with a trembling voice, “They will definitely attack. The last time this person showed this expression, he was hanging those who resisted on lampposts.”
“Hanging on lampposts? Little rascal, what nonsense are you talking about?!” Hearing this, the older trainer glanced at Su Jiu, and seeing her expressionless face, he thought she was already intimidated by his aura, and a hint of pride flashed in his eyes beneath the mask.
The child could only watch as the rather withered hand slowly approached her. A strange dread surged into her right eye. She even let go of Su Jiu’s clothes and involuntarily took two steps back.
Just as the hand was about to reach the child, Su Jiu extended her white coat sleeve, blocking the older trainer. She then turned and patted the child’s head with her other hand, whispering, “Don’t be afraid, I said I would protect you.”
“Heh heh, you have indeed come into contact with the local residents. I thought you wouldn’t notice anything in the middle of the night, plus your Dragon Country identity, so I intended to let you go. But now I realize…”
Seeing Su Jiu block him, the older trainer narrowed his gloomy eyes. Suddenly, a white light appeared in his hand, and a silver-white dagger materialized. He gripped the dagger and sneered, “There’s a heaven but you won’t take it. Since you insist on meddling, you can stay here! We’ll just say Mokala killed you.”
After speaking, he nodded towards the younger trainer, signaling him to proceed with the plan.
The latter also came to his senses, taking out an alchemical artifact that looked like a scalpel. His gaze began to assess Su Jiu, seemingly unconcerned about revealing anything. He smiled and said, “That adult’s daughter’s eyes have never matched. Yours are quite good, but your face is too pale, and there are more blood vessels, and…”
Now they understood. The tall and short girl in front of them probably already knew some of their wrongdoings, so they stopped pretending and laid their cards on the table.
Suddenly he paused. The younger trainer seemed to have discovered something strange. His gaze fell on the small, brilliant white flower in her eyes, and an inexplicable chill ran down his spine. Do normal people’s eyes look like this?
It actually gave him, who was already a Battle General, a sense of pressure.
At that moment, the child, tightly hidden behind Su Jiu, suddenly shouted loudly, “You will be punished! Your father’s Mokala will come to save us soon!”
“Pfft… Hahaha!”
Hearing the child’s voice, the two trainers exchanged glances and burst into laughter. The younger trainer wore a cruel smile and said, “Those Mokala are struggling to save themselves, how can they have time to save you… And your father, it seems, was hanged by me.”
Hearing these words, the child’s body trembled violently. She suddenly looked up and glared at the younger trainer in anger, like a wild little cat, wanting to rush forward.
However, Bairnis, who was watching quietly from the side, grabbed her collar and pulled her back. She whispered, “Just watch.”
“All of you, hurry up! Those with girls at home, bring them over. If they meet the conditions, you’ll get a month’s worth of food.”
Glancing at the surrounding houses with people peeking out, the older trainer shouted at them. Then he instructed the younger trainer, “Since she meets the conditions for that adult’s daughter, don’t kill or injure her first. Take her to the church to confirm the matching degree together.”
“Where should I start? How about you! You, the little sister in the black dress over there.”
The latter spun the scalpel in his right hand, made an “OK” gesture with his left hand, and then looked at Bairnis with a cruel smile, walking towards her with a grin.
“You seem to have misunderstood something. You don’t think you’ve already won, do you?”
However, before he could reach Bairnis, Su Jiu’s voice suddenly rang out. The younger trainer looked abruptly and saw that her pale little face held a hint of mockery.
“You… are not a priest!”
Immediately after, his neck felt a chill, and his body seemed to be put on pause, unable to move an inch. Finally, a hint of fear welled up in his eyes, and he uttered tremblingly.
Note for absence
Just got off the car, feeling tired and uncomfortable. I’ll wash up and sleep when I get home. Two normal updates tomorrow.
