Chapter sixty-two: Morning Flight
The night sky was hazy, and two figures flew at low altitude like foraging birds, neither fast nor slow.
After an unknown amount of time.
A ray of dawn light broke the loneliness of the night. The sunless sunlight lightly fell on Su Jiu’s face. A few spots of blood did not make her handsome face look ugly, but instead gave it a strange beauty.
Reaching out as if to catch the dust in the morning light, Su Jiu glanced at the scabbed wounds on her arms and palms, feeling a moment of realization. The battles of these past few days were more dangerous than those of the past year.
She had almost died several times. Looking at the torn sleeves of her school uniform, she remembered that she was just a high school student.
She really didn’t want to be a hero anymore.
It was too tiring.
“Junior, come closer to me.” Lord Liu Yue’s voice suddenly echoed in the dawn night sky. Although abrupt, it carried a hint of gentleness.
Su Jiu flapped her wings slightly and accelerated, moving to his side. She saw a white stream of light pouring down onto her head. Su Jiu felt a warmth all over her body, and the wounds on her hands and body began to heal, and the pain in her back also seemed to be alleviated.
The stream of light also swept over E Huo in Su Jiu’s pocket. She poked out a small head, still looking as small as before, but with a difference – two small bumps had appeared on her head.
This seemed to confirm Su Jiu’s earlier guess about its identity. Gently touching its head, Su Jiu had some speculation: a single horn on the head signifies a Jiao, and two horns signify a true dragon. E Huo might be a type of dragon.
As for whether it was pure-blooded or a distant relative, Su Jiu did not know. However, she was certain that at least one of its parents must be a powerful being above the level of the War God.
During the previous battle, she had noticed that her armor was different from those in books. The mysterious patterns were definitely not something that ordinary descendants of War Gods could compare to.
“Mama, this old man is very strong, and his aura is so gentle, like a clear spring.”
E Huo’s voice slowly sounded in Su Jiu’s mind, sounding a bit lazy.
“A clear spring?”
Su Jiu squinted and muttered softly, carefully sensing the healing power that penetrated to her bones. Every cell seemed to be cheering. This was definitely not comparable to the Spring Bloom Technique.
“A clear spring? Jing Zi also said so. This is my innate skill, ‘Moonlight,’ which can heal many illnesses… but that’s all. It cannot protect her in battle.”
Lord Liu Yue turned his head and let out a wry smile, followed by a faint sigh.
Upon hearing this, Su Jiu had heard the story. She blinked and spoke softly, “Senior Liu Yue, even the strongest would make mistakes when facing a War God-level Black Jiao. You don’t need to blame yourself.”
“Black Jiao? What is that supposed to be?” Lord Liu Yue chuckled, actually looking down on the War God-level Black Jiao. Then he looked at Su Jiu and sighed softly, “Everyone knows that Jing Zi fought the Black Jiao alone, but they don’t know that she was already preparing to advance to the War God level at that time. The Black Jiao was not our match at all… but Jing Zi was ambushed!”
As he reached the end, his eyes were filled with anger, followed by deep helplessness.
“Them? Are you referring to the Ancient God Sect?” Su Jiu was slightly stunned, surprised that this legendary Major General had the ability to kill a Black Jiao at a higher level.
It was known that the higher the level, the greater the gap between levels. She found it difficult to fight a Battle General when she was at the Warrior Class, let alone a War God by a Battle King.
“The Ancient God Sect? Perhaps not. They are a race that looks similar to you humans, but I can assure you they are not human. They have regenerative abilities that humans do not possess, and their clothing is not of the Dragon Country’s style.”
“If Jing Zi hadn’t broken the contract and detonated herself to take those people with her before she died, I wouldn’t have returned at all.”
Lord Liu Yue said lightly, his eyes like water looking forward at the clouds, as if recalling the events of a hundred years ago.
“The Others… that strange recovery ability should be the power of ‘gods’ in those novels. Are those The Others who believe in gods? Why have they appeared within the Dragon Country?”
Su Jiu’s mind raced. She felt that it was not good to come into contact with The Others too early. That was something that only appeared halfway through the stories of the protagonists!
It was known that by that time, Bai Ming was already a Battle King-level expert, and Bai Qianyu was a half-step Battle King, both capable of breaking through enemy lines alone!
“‘Gods’? There are not many people in this world who can be called gods. The only one I’ve ever seen close to a god is the one guarding the Dragon Country… but it’s not wrong for you humans to consider those strange people as an alien race,” Lord Liu Yue said softly, but he did not seem to want Su Jiu to come into contact with those higher-level things too early.
“So, you went to the west for a hundred years to avenge Major General Jing Zi?” Su Jiu asked confusedly.
If even Jing Zi, who could kill a War God, was defeated, wouldn’t Lord Liu Yue also be sending himself to his doom? With his steady personality, would he really be foolish enough to return?
“No, I am merely fulfilling a promise to Jing Zi. It has nothing to do with The Others… But it has something to do with whether you accept Jing Zi’s inheritance. I’ll tell you more later.”
Lord Liu Yue said lightly, his body floating in the wind, blocking most of resistance for Su Jiu.
Su Jiu lowered her head. She roughly guessed his intention. It was likely that only after accepting the inheritance would Lord Liu Yue say something.
And that inheritance was probably the sword technique that made the Ancient God Sect go mad. Her guess was probably not far off, Lord Liu Yue was about to run out of oil.
Thinking of this, Su Jiu could only sigh slightly. Even a powerful Battle King like Lord Liu Yue would be on the verge of death. What should she, an ordinary person, do when the world collapses in the future?
Should she wait for Bai Ming to appear as a savior? Rather than waiting for him to rise and save the world, it would be better to strive for self-improvement…
Su Jiu tightened her fist, the more she knew about the content of the book, the more she knew about her own insignificance.
Was she strong?
Few people of her age could defeat Battle Generals. Looking across the Dragon Country, only those descendants of War Gods could barely achieve this.
“Thirsty? I have brewed wine and food with me. Jing Zi liked this thing very much back then. It might have unexpected benefits for you ice-element bloodlines who are still at the Warrior Class.” Seeing Su Jiu frown, Lord Liu Yue smiled indifferently and lightly shook his head.
A small white gourd made of jade quietly emerged from beside his neck and appeared before Su Jiu. With a “pop,” a white mist slowly drifted out from the mouth of the gourd.
The wine aroma, like a soul-hooking messenger, constantly stimulated Su Jiu’s taste buds. The rich fruit aroma and her body made her unable to resist picking it up and taking a small sip.
The bone-chilling frost continuously stimulated her taste buds. Sweetness and coldness flowed down her throat, reaching every inch of her organs. In a short while, a flush appeared on her cheeks, and the wings on her back fluttered, as if about to disappear.
“This is great!”
“Hoo—”
With a flash of white light, Lord Liu Yue gently supported her, continuing to float slowly. His somewhat cloudy eyes seemed to be reminiscing about a story, and the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.
“Just like her, so carefree.”
White deer, wine aroma, maiden.
The gentle deer cry, the clear wine aroma, it’s just a pity that the old friend is no longer the old friend.
