Chapter 689: Taking Action (3k)
“The fox shrine is burning, is it those people from Ran Hua City?”
Seeing the expression on the young girl’s face, Su Jiu instinctively looked up at the sky and saw more and more smoke rising from a distance. She immediately realized what was happening.
Perhaps those people had found the location of the Red Demon Shrimp and were trying to break in using some method, maybe even randomly bombarding it with skills.
“The shrine must not be destroyed, not only will the great god’s tailfin be destroyed, but the fox’s strength will also be lost entirely.”
Sighing, Inari God lowered his head, turned, and stomped on his wooden clogs before darting forward. His speed was exceptionally fast, and with his long sleeves fluttering, only the rustling sound of the sunflower plants could be heard.
“Little Foolbird doesn’t know where it went…”
Without any further words, Su Jiu also followed. The two of them were incredibly fast, and in a short while, they had crossed the lush sunflower sea and entered a large area of rice paddies, where their vision was much clearer.
Their thick-soled shoes made a “thudding” sound as they stepped on the rice fields. Su Jiu lowered her head and also noticed countless Red Demon Shrimp and small red crabs scurrying between the paddy ridges.
The verdant green rice seedlings swayed gently with the wind generated by their rapid sprint, and the turbid muddy water contained some light red gravel.
In an instant, the mystery that had puzzled Su Jiu for a long time was unveiled. It was as if she had returned to her junior high geography class – wasn’t this just the most basic Shrimpdaddy Rotation pattern!
No wonder those shrimp seemed more like mutations.
If the shrine at the top had Amaterasu’s tailfin, then it would be reasonable for these rice and shrimp to have been contaminated with Amaterasu’s special genes.
“This should be the source, right?”
After a few minutes, the scorched smell Su Jiu detected grew stronger. She looked up, having reached the end of the river, and saw the waterwheel constantly moving up and down, with some sparkling red particles appearing in the water.
At the front of the waterwheel, a wooden shrine, more than two meters high, was engulfed in flames. Opposite the shrine, over a dozen students were continuously throwing dry straw into it, the “crackling” sound echoing.
Standing at the very front was Ran Hua City, who had tied his Western suit around his waist, looking full of energy, and said loudly,
“Speed it up, everyone! This shrine cannot be destroyed by skills, only by ordinary fire! According to thermal imaging, there’s a great treasure inside…”
“Who’s there?”
Just then, his words came to an abrupt halt as he frowned and looked to the side of the small shrine.
“Hey! Why are humans burning the fox’s shrine?”
Upon arriving next to the small shrine, Inari God, without a word, waved his hand, extinguishing the flames from the shrine into his palm. He then leaped onto the roof of the shrine, looking at Ran Hua City with ill intent.
The latter scrutinized Inari God and, finding nothing out of the ordinary, did not rush to act. Instead, he took out a badge from his chest and said calmly,
“Half-demon. We are officially dispatched by Sakura to investigate the situation near the ruins. If you obstruct us, don’t blame us for being impolite.”
“This is originally the fox’s territory. You humans should go back.”
Without showing anger, Inari God waved his hand, urging the other party to leave. He was restricted by Amaterasu and could not attack humans; otherwise, he would have driven these people away long ago.
“Leave? I suspect you, a demon, deliberately interrupted our construction. You might be related to the ruins.”
With a faint smile, Ran Hua City gestured to the surrounding students, pointed at the figure on top of the small shrine, and said coldly, “Surround her!”
The students did not hesitate, their figures “swishing!” around the entire small shrine, holding their respective weapons. Under the sunlight, they emitted a cold gleam.
Inari God held the ball of flame in his hand, then squeezed it tightly, dispersing the flames. His fingertips were slightly pale…
He couldn’t attack humans.
Damn this restriction!
Ran Hua City surveyed the figure in the shrine maiden outfit and suddenly smiled, a trace of greed in his eyes. Without further thought, he said coldly, “Since you insist on guarding it, then stay and become my Beast Pet!”
Frowning as he looked at these people, Inari God turned to Su Jiu in another direction and said in a deep voice, “Don’t just watch the show anymore. If the shrine is destroyed, the tail feathers inside will also be destroyed.”
“There are others?”
Ran Hua City was stunned for a moment, and his heart suddenly became vigilant. He had used his mental power to scan his surroundings but found no trace of anyone else.
After scanning again, he looked at the fox girl in front of him with a grim expression and sneered, “There’s no need for you to struggle. No one can help you here now, so be obedient!”
“Our teacher is a supernova from Seoul University. Following him will definitely not be a loss.”
“Little Fox Demon, hehe.”
The students, one after another, supported the enclosing net of light, which formed in the air, seeming to create a pincer movement from all sides.
Ran Hua City tried to find a look of fear on the fox demon’s face, but surprisingly, he only saw a mocking smile on her small face.
Suddenly, a few wisps of unease surged in his heart.
“Teacher Ran, please give me some face.”
Suddenly, a cold female voice rang out. A crimson-gold slash, like moonlight, swung up from below, directly tearing through the net.
Then, while Ran Hua City was stunned, the sound of his hard-soled shoes crunching on dry stalks could be heard. A petite figure approached the small shrine, playing with the Loquat Branch.
“Student Su, we are conducting official business right now. Please do not interfere.”
Looking at the person in front of him, Ran Hua City frowned slightly and then probed with his mental power. He gradually relaxed. His impression of this girl came from her ruthlessness towards Kamishiro Fujiye.
She was only an Intermediate Battle King.
It was probably because Kamishiro Fujiye was too weak that she lost.
“Teacher Ran, this fox demon and the temple are my investigation subjects. I hope you won’t interfere.” Su Jiu smiled helplessly.
“This was discovered by our Seoul University, so why should it belong to you?!” one of the students exclaimed indignantly.
“That’s right!”
“Teacher Hua Cheng, chase her away!”
Su Jiu’s words were like pebbles falling into a lake, causing slight ripples, enraging these students.
Ran Hua City raised his hand, signaling them to quiet down. He looked at Su Jiu again and said with a fake smile,
“Student Su, if you feel regrettable about not facing Seoul University on the stage, I can spar with you now.”
He had long wanted to attack these arrogant Dragon Country people, but the damn draw for the arena had allowed them to escape.
As soon as he finished speaking, a cheer erupted from the students, all wanting to see their teacher punish this person who was stealing credit. As for losing…
How could a teacher lose to a student?
“That’s fine too, please, then.” Su Jiu said with a light smile, but holding the Loquat Branch, she lightly clapped her hands, appearing as though she wouldn’t use her avatar.
In this rice field, the atmosphere froze. A gentle breeze blew, but it couldn’t dissipate the tense atmosphere.
“So self-important.”
Seeing the faint smile on Su Jiu’s face, Ran Hua City also smiled, the coldness in his smile almost overflowing. He could feel the ease on the other person’s face.
“Today, I will teach you Dragon Country teachers a lesson on respecting your elders. To have such an attitude towards a stronger person, your defeat is not unjust.”
Holding a Western light sword, Ran Hua City slowly took a step forward, his imposing aura surging out from his body like the sun, sweeping across this rice field.
“Aren’t you going down to help her?”
The fox girl sat on the roof, swinging her legs, and asked indifferently.
“Just a Demigod level. For her, it’s a one-hand kill.”
To her left, Lin was also sitting silently, holding a cluster of sunflowers, her fair white legs gently swaying.
“What do you mean?”
Hearing this, Inari God was somewhat astonished and turned to look at the girl beside him.
“Hehe… I won’t tell you, you stinky fox.”
Lin smiled to herself, picked out a sunflower seed with her finger, and nibbled on it, not speaking further.
The two of them sat on the shrine, and both their attire and their eyes gave the impression of having walked out of an anime. The setting sun shone on them, yet they exuded a different kind of beauty.
Above the rice field.
“Alas, Teacher Ran, you are not qualified to teach me anything.”
Seeing the other person’s movements, Su Jiu lightly stomped her foot. She activated the first layer of Elegy, her green hair flying behind her. Then, a scarlet aura emerged from her back, slowly forming into a pair of small black wings.
Only Demigod level, isn’t this guy too arrogant?
“Not qualified? When you get injured later, I’ll tell Lin Chujiu.”
Ran Hua City sneered. He clenched his fist with force, and holy light flashed on his palm. He raised his long sword, drawing a long ray of light.
Ran Hua City stomped the ground, scattering dirt. His figure then shot forward, his long sword pointing at Su Jiu, and he said lightly, “Today, let me experience the strength of you, an Intermediate Battle King.”
“Dream of Blossoms!”
Su Jiu smiled slightly. The small white flower in her eyes closed and opened. She moved, and when she reappeared, she was already in front of him, her Loquat Branch slashing horizontally.
“Swoosh!”
“Such speed!”
As Su Jiu appeared, Ran Hua City’s pupils constricted. But he fiercely swung his long sword, and the light on the sword flashed. The sword then vibrated, directly transforming into a howling light wolf, carrying a thunderous low hum, and pounced towards Su Jiu’s waist.
The light wolf pierced through Su Jiu’s body, and Ran Hua City revealed a smile. The next moment, the attack, like a stone thrown into water, only stirred up a few ripples.
Su Jiu’s figure disappeared like a phantom.
“Not good!”
Ran Hua City’s heart tightened. He hurriedly twisted his sword to block behind him. He saw the Loquat Branch, wrapped in white light, emerge. The two instantly collided, and he felt immense pressure in his arm.
The long sword was pressed to a very strange arc by the Loquat Branch. With a “clang!”, it was knocked flying into the sky.
Ran Hua City spat out a mouthful of blood mist and was blasted away. His heels ploughed two deep marks in the soft mud. It was only when two students blocked behind him and dissolved the kinetic energy that he managed to stop.
Spitting out more blood, he tremblingly looked up at the girl who was lightly wiping the Loquat Branch. After coughing twice, he said with a hint of fear in his eyes,
“You aren’t a Battle King!!”
