## Side: Mako
The capital of Torencia, the Phantom Capital, I think it’s called?
Upon arriving in the Phantom Capital Bestia, I, along with Prim, Flam, Athena-chan, and Aria-chan, decided to tour the city of Bestia while heading to the Priests’ Guild.
Bestia had a cityscape reminiscent of medieval Europe, but with many rivers and bridges, I didn’t find it particularly inconvenient.
What surprised me more, perhaps, was the clothing worn by the city’s inhabitants.
I had heard beforehand that their clothes were a mix of Japanese and Western styles, and it was indeed true, which surprised me.
While wearing trousers was fine, the upper garments were like kimonos. For women, there were yukata-style tops with skirts, and even dresses that were of that style, but they were disastrously mismatched with the medieval European cityscape.
Of course, that’s just my and Yamato-kun’s opinion; for the people of Helios Orb, it’s probably a perfectly normal sight.
“We’ve arrived. This is the Priests’ Guild.”
“I could see it from a distance, but it really is here, isn’t it?”
The Priests’ Guild had an appearance like an ancient Greek temple.
When I was walking around Bestia, I saw a temple like that in the distance, so I had a feeling, and my guess was correct, so I thought it might have been nice to have a little more surprise.
Well, since the Priests’ Guild is a religious facility, there’s no need to be unconventional.
“As expected of the Torencia headquarters, it’s a magnificent establishment.”
Aria-chan, who is a priest, seems to find it a very magnificent establishment.
No, it certainly has a grand and solemn structure, but for me, the image of ruins comes to mind first.
Or perhaps it’s guarded by constellation warriors clad in golden armor.
Not just the Priests’ Guild, but Guilds, with their general headquarters at the top, have branch headquarters in the capitals of each country, and chapters in towns and cities.
Villages might not have one, but even then, there seems to be a place of worship for priests to stay.
“The Torencia headquarters, if I recall, enshrines statues of goddesses other than the Father God and Mother Goddess, right?”
“That’s what I’ve heard. As for why the Mother Goddess’s statue isn’t enshrined, unlike the Father God’s, it’s said to be out of consideration for the Amister Royal Family.”
“They don’t need to worry about something like that.”
The Torencia Royal Family regards the Amister Royal Family as their main family.
Therefore, they treat the Amister Royal Family as their most friendly nation, but the Torencia Royal Family treats them as a suzerain, so occasional misunderstandings seem to occur.
It originally stemmed from the founding of Torencia, but they also received help in repelling monsters called Demise Species, so it seems to be a matter of showing respect.
I think a partnership as equal allies would be fine, but since that’s the country’s policy, I can’t say anything as I’ve only just arrived in Helios Orb.
“By the way, Mako-san, what kind of magic are you going to perform?”
Flam, a High Undine – no, I meant Undine, is it? – Flam, who is a High Undine, asked with an intrigued expression what kind of magic I intended to perform.
It’s not guaranteed to succeed, so it’s a question I’d rather they postpone until I succeed, if possible.
“Is it okay to try it first? It’s the first time, and there are many things I still don’t fully understand, so I’d appreciate it if I could try it out before saying it out loud.”
“Yamato also said something similar. Understood.”
With that, Flam didn’t seem particularly displeased and easily withdrew.
These two, Flam and Meena, had an elegant demeanor, and it seems they genuinely have that kind of personality.
I thought it might be Yamato-kun’s preference, but Prim, Mana-sama, and Ludia have lively personalities, so I can’t say that for sure.
“What about Prim?”
“As I said before, for the same reason as Mako, I’d prefer later, if possible.”
“Understood.”
Athena-chan also seemed curious and asked Prim, but she declined for the same reason as me.
It would be embarrassing to fail after saying it out loud.
“Alright, then I’ll try first.”
“Yes. I’ll watch from behind to see how you perform it.”
I’ve heard what it’s like, but there are parts that are hard to understand without seeing it in person.
Prim has seen it several times before, so I apologize, but I’ll observe carefully.
Wait, do you kneel before the statue of a goddess?
No, since it’s a prayer to the goddess of magic, it’s a natural act.
It looks like nothing more than people praying to the statue of the goddess of magic, but conveying the image of magic in that way, and if successful, the book in the statue’s hand will glow, and it’s written there, so this is how it works.
“It seems you succeeded.”
“Congratulations, Prim-san.”
“Congratulations, Prim!”
“Thank you. It’s… quite moving, I must say.”
I heard that four magics have been performed in the past few months, but they are all related to Yamato-kun, and before that, it had been decades since anyone performed one, they said.
Well, the performed magics are…
“The magic’s name is Flying. Its classification is Supplication Magic.”
“I appreciate that, but its effect is a bit peculiar.”
“I think Dragonoids can use it, but other than that, maybe Harpies or Fairies?”
“And also the Winged Tribe.”
It is indeed peculiar.
The magic called Flying, which Prim performed, was a magic that allowed one to manipulate the wind with their own wings and fly freely in the sky.
However, the phrase “one’s own wings” is the tricky part, as many races cannot use it.
Supplication Magic seems to be a magic that anyone can use, so in my understanding, it would be considered neutral magic, but since races without wings cannot use it, it’s not bad, but I have to say it’s mediocre.
It seems that only Dragonoids, Harpies and Fairies of the Yokai Race, and the like, actually possess wings.
Oh, and there are also people who are born with wings, regardless of race, like Prim.
They seem to be called the Winged Tribe, and their magic power forms wings, so depending on their level, it’s not uncommon for them to possess magic power equivalent to High Class.
“But Yamato-san can use it, and even with the race restriction, it allows you to fly, so I think it will be easier to fight even against monsters that fly.”
That is indeed true, as Flam said.
I haven’t fought any monsters yet, so I can’t say for sure, but I can use Fly Wind, so I fully understand the usefulness of aerial combat.
But what does “Yamato-kun can use it” mean?
He did evolve into something called an Ancient Human, but racially he’s Human, and there’s no one with wings on Earth, is there?
“It’s one of Yamato’s trump cards, so just consider it a Unique Magic.”
If it’s a trump card, then I certainly can’t push further to ask.
From what I’ve heard, Unique Magic seems to be magic that one develops themselves, like S-class spellcraft, so it sounds very interesting.
I’ve also developed two S-class spellcrafts, and it seems they can be combined with magic, so maybe I should think of something too.
“Then, it’s Mako’s turn next.”
Oh, I almost forgot.
While Unique Magic sounds interesting, I need to try and perform magic first.
“They succeeded before me, I wonder if I can do it.”
“That’s something I can’t say.”
Prim gives a wry smile, but of course, she would say that.
I kneel before the statue of the goddess of magic and clasp my hands in a praying pose.
It’s about conveying the image to the goddess of magic, but is this okay?
I can’t see clearly because my eyes are closed, but my eyelids turned red, so it means it shone, right?
“You succeeded. Guests are truly amazing.”
“I think it’s thanks to the knowledge from Earth.”
Not just in science and physics, but there are quite a few outlandish things even in fantasy stories.
Stories of transmigration to another world are also as numerous as stars, if not more, and if you search for them, you’ll find more than you can count on both hands and feet.
“This is also Supplication Magic. The magic’s name is Scaffolding.”
“The effect is… wow, this seems more usable and has more applications than the magic I performed.”
Supplication Magic Scaffolding, huh?
The effect is to create a pseudo foothold with magic power, yes, it’s just as I imagined.
It can be created not only in the air but also on water, so you don’t have to worry about poor footing, and it will be easier to approach Steam Battleships, making combat easier.
“The effect is… amazing.”
“It’s something I thought of after hearing about Steam Battleships.”
“Even so, it’s amazing! You can walk on water too!”
“Yes. The advantage of Steam Battleships has almost disappeared, hasn’t it?”
Normally, even if you could walk on water, you couldn’t fight a battleship, but in Helios Orb, it’s entirely possible.
High Class individuals can cut through iron with any ordinary sword, and it’s said that it’s not impossible to break through with bare hands.
So, even against an iron Steam Battleship, if you can get close enough, you can sink it with just one sword.
You’d be defenseless against a broadside of all 30 cannons, but their power isn’t as great as you might think, and it seems you can defend against them with magic. Also, depending on the person, you might be able to withstand a direct hit.
It would be a different story if the cannonballs were tampered with, but judging from the cannonballs Yamato-kun picked up, they were just ordinary iron balls. And they’re probably so ecstatic about developing weapons like Steam Battleships that they wouldn’t have thought that far.
So, with Prim’s Flying and my Scaffolding, the Steam Battleship that can bombard from the sea will lose its territorial advantage, so I think its absolute superiority has been lost.
Of course, the range is several kilometers, so it’s still difficult to get close, but you can probably run on your own feet, and it’s easier to avoid cannonballs than approaching by ship. By moving quickly, you can also disperse their aim.
Yamato-kun says they are primitive cannons, so it’s hard to aim, and they aren’t even designed for anti-personnel use.
“I didn’t expect both of you to be able to perform Supplication Magic, but with this, our immediate objective has been achieved.”
“Yes. Or rather, Flam, did you think I wouldn’t be able to perform it?”
“Mako-san is a guest, so it’s true that Prim-san was more of a question mark.”
“Now that you mention it, I can’t deny that.”
They’re so close.
It’s an amazing sight for me to see Yamato-kun’s other wives, fellow wives – that’s what they call it, I think – getting along so well.
Of course, it’s better for them to get along than not, but still, considering they share the same man as a husband, I can’t help but feel that it’s understandable to have some reservations.
This is also probably related to the fact that I’m from Earth, while Prim and Flam are from Helios Orb.
After all, it’s said that a man who takes only one wife is incompetent, and a woman is a bundle of possessiveness, and it’s not viewed favorably.
It’s natural for customs to differ between worlds, but when they differ this much, I’m starting to worry if I’ll ever get used to it.
“It would be nice to return to the castle as is, but I’d like to see more of Bestia if possible.”
“Me too.”
“Me too!”
“I will accompany you.”
Flam and Athena-chan agreed with my opinion, while Aria-chan gave a protective comment, but is this child really 15 years old?
No, her bunny ears are twitching, so can I assume she’s actually looking forward to it?
Or rather, can you tell a rabbit’s emotions by its ears?
