Chapter 68: The Annoying Rain
The clouds thickened, gradually completely obscuring the sunlight.
The streets were dark and oppressive, the heavy atmosphere unpleasant, and the air was overly humid, making the moisture palpable on the skin.
If nothing unexpected happened, it would be another heavy rain.
Long Qinxin walked unsteadily down the deserted street, silent and not looking at the road, only at her own toes.
Her mind was filled with the image of Leng Qing Qiu being affectionate with Lu Zhiyin in front of her. Was Leng Qing Qiu provoking her? She must be.
But… what right did she have to provoke her?
Long Qinxin had hired a private investigator to look into Leng Qing Qiu’s background a while ago. Leng Qing Qiu was just an orphan who had lost her parents and could only live out her life in a residential area like the common folk.
What was the point of being dazzling in school? Without enough opportunities, she would never be able to leave the residential area.
How could someone like her provoke her, and how could she compete with her for someone?
Long Qinxin thought that although her own life was often a mess, it was still far better than Leng Qing Qiu’s, wasn’t it?
She and Leng Qing Qiu were probably not from the same world. In the end, why should she personally compete with Leng Qing Qiu?
Even if her family business was faltering, she was still from the affluent area and enjoyed countless hidden privileges.
The current Judicial Officer was a man who coveted money. Long Qinxin thought that if she could meet the Judicial Officer at a high-class banquet and give him enough money, she wouldn’t be in trouble even if she killed someone.
Perhaps it was because she was too angry at the hospital earlier, but Long Qinxin even thought of using illegal means against Leng Qing Qiu.
“Sigh… Zhiyin, class… Zhiyin, class… Lu Zhiyin…”
Sighing, she murmured Lu Zhiyin’s name. Unless it was absolutely necessary, Long Qinxin did not want to harm anyone.
She could spare Leng Qing Qiu’s life, but she wanted Lu Zhiyin, she wanted her very much.
What were her subtle feelings for Lu Zhiyin? Was it like, love? Or pure possession? It didn’t matter anymore.
Long Qinxin was determined to take Lu Zhiyin away from Leng Qing Qiu, and she would no longer care about Lu Zhiyin’s thoughts.
If Lu Zhiyin still refused to accept her… then she would put a chain around her neck, break her wings, and lock her up in her own cage until she no longer had the thought of leaving.
Gradually, Long Qinxin’s thoughts became extreme.
“It’s raining…”
With a rumble of thunder, the drizzling raindrops fell, hitting Long Qinxin in the middle of the street.
The rain soaked her dress and hair, drenching the girl like a drowned rat.
“Zhiyin, you lied to me first… you promised to date me, but you’re still entangled with Leng Qing Qiu…”
Lifting her head, her eyes became more determined as she looked at the dark sky.
She had decided to keep Lu Zhiyin by her side. With her mind made up, she should have felt better.
But Long Qinxin still felt terrible, her eyes felt a bit sore. Was it because of the rain?
She wiped the corners of her eyes.
“Hateful rain.”
Lowering her head, Long Qinxin refocused on her path. She quickened her pace and soon returned to her apartment.
…
On the other side, Lu Zhiyin and Leng Qing Qiu had returned to Leng Qing Qiu’s home. Leng Qing Qiu was cleaning up the human remains she had cooked earlier and hadn’t had time to dispose of, while Lu Zhiyin was practicing operating her newly purchased electric wheelchair in the living room.
The motor sound was louder than that of a regular wheelchair, but it was much more convenient. She didn’t need to exert force, and the operation was not difficult. Lu Zhiyin quickly became proficient in operating the wheelchair.
“Is it raining?”
Stopping the wheelchair, Lu Zhiyin heard the sound of rain outside. She controlled the wheelchair to the door.
Opening the door and looking at the dense curtain of rain outside, Lu Zhiyin’s mind became a little hazy.
She remembered the last time it rained and she stayed in a hotel with Long Qinxin. At that time, her situation wasn’t particularly difficult. Although she was bullied by Qin An at school, she wasn’t as trapped between two people, unable to advance or retreat, as she was now.
After that rain, everything seemed to have quietly changed.
“Such hateful rain…”
Muttering to herself, Lu Zhiyin lowered her eyes. She stopped looking at the rain and instead looked at the puddles on the road.
This time, the sewer worked as it should, and the rainwater couldn’t accumulate too deeply. This rain was not as heavy as the last one, but it was still detestable.
Lu Zhiyin used to like rainy days, but not anymore.
“When the rain stops, meet me.”
She took out her phone and sent a message to Long Qinxin.
Soon, the message showed as read, but Long Qinxin did not reply.
Lu Zhiyin’s heart felt a slight stinging sensation.
She figured Long Qinxin was angry. Indeed, Long Qinxin had reason to be angry, after all, she had lied to her and caused her to lose face in front of Leng Qing Qiu several times.
Lu Zhiyin lowered her head, her waterfall-like hair hanging down, obscuring her vision.
Through the gaps in her gray-white hair, Lu Zhiyin saw that the rain outside was still pouring down.
No matter what she thought, things had to move forward, life had to go on, she couldn’t escape.
And when she thought about having to lie to Long Qinxin again, Lu Zhiyin’s heart ached even more.
This kind of pain, perhaps, painkillers could not alleviate.
She was not a heartless person, and probably couldn’t become one.
Her heart ached more and more, making it difficult for her to breathe.
“Mmm…”
Pushing her hair aside, Lu Zhiyin brought her left wrist to her mouth and bit down hard.
Her teeth sank into her flesh, and Lu Zhiyin could feel her bone. The bone-chilling pain entered her mind, and Lu Zhiyin’s body trembled.
She was afraid of pain, but if she had to choose between mental pain and physical pain, she would rather choose physical pain.
The pain from her wrist gradually replaced the emotional torment, and Lu Zhiyin gradually calmed down, but she still bit her wrist hard, not daring to slacken even slightly.
She was afraid that if she stopped, her heart would ache again.
As she continued to exert force, her mouth gradually filled with a salty, metallic taste.
“…Ah, it’s bleeding…”
Tentatively releasing her mouth, Lu Zhiyin looked at the wound on her wrist from which blood was flowing out. She looked a little dazed.
The emotional pain was gone, replaced by a sense of loss.
She still had to continue lying. If every burst of guilt had to be covered by pain, wouldn’t she really become a pervert who enjoyed pain?
This superficial solution would probably push her deeper into the abyss, Lu Zhiyin knew this, but she couldn’t stop.
The only way to treat the root cause was probably to confess everything, then sincerely apologize, and never lie again… but that was almost impossible.
“So… why did it have to be me who came here?”
Her complaining voice was very soft, so soft that only Lu Zhiyin herself could hear it.
Because of the cast, she couldn’t even curl up into a ball to protect herself anymore.
