Chapter 5: Find a job, then return to the dormitory
As Ouyang Qing began to control the claw machine, Lu Zhiyin was busy thinking about what kind of job she should find.
In the end, she decided to wash dishes at a restaurant near the school. It was rush hour when school ended, and the restaurant was busy at this time, so they might need help.
Of course, the main reason was that it would not affect her studies.
Bringing her thoughts back, Lu Zhiyin stood in place, quietly watching Ouyang Qing operate the machine claw, trying to grab the largest rabbit doll in the claw machine again and again, only to fail again and again.
The machine claw was not as easy to use as Ouyang Qing had imagined. The force was light and airy, and it couldn’t grip the doll at all.
She seemed to be fighting with the claw machine, throwing coins into it again and again, and failing again and again.
Her expression was gradually breaking down.
It seemed that this thing had indeed made her extremely frustrated.
Lu Zhiyin remembered that in her original world, bosses would usually set a guarantee for such machines. After a certain number of uses, the claw would grip tighter next time. She didn’t know if the boss of this terrible world would be more stingy.
Leaning against a utility pole near the street, Lu Zhiyin leisurely admired the deity’s crumbling face.
She felt a little happy. Seeing others suffer made her happy. Lu Zhiyin felt that she had become bad. As for who she learned from… the answer to this question was self-evident.
Lu Zhiyin narrowed her eyes.
Ouyang Qing sat in front of the claw machine for three hours. It wasn’t until it was completely dark, the streetlights came on, and the convenience store closed that she was forced to leave the claw machine that made her hate it to the bone.
Perhaps out of kindness, or perhaps seeing that Ouyang Qing had spent so much money in one day, the shop owner gave her a somewhat ugly frog doll the size of her palm, hoping Ouyang Qing would come again.
Her almost overflowing anger finally subsided a little.
She lost all night, but at least she got a consolation prize, right?
Thinking this, she grabbed the small doll in her hand, and then saw Lu Zhiyin leaning against the utility pole, grinning foolishly.
Her good mood completely disappeared.
“What are you laughing at?”
She asked coldly.
“Cough cough… nothing.”
Shaking her head, Lu Zhiyin intended to brush it off.
Her attitude made Ouyang Qing even more angry, so much so that she accidentally squeezed the doll in her hand and crushed it.
Fragments of fabric and white cotton flew all over the place.
“…”
Staring blankly at the flying cotton, Ouyang Qing let go of her hand, and the last piece of fabric of the frog doll in her palm also fell to the ground.
Lu Zhiyin felt something bad was happening.
“Ha, well, please don’t be angry. I can find a bigger one for you later.”
“…”
Lu Zhiyin tried to concede, but only received Ouyang Qing’s cold gaze.
To be honest, Ouyang Qing was not short of dolls. As a deity with divine power, she could have as many dolls as she wanted.
However, the one she had just crushed was a little different. For Ouyang Qing, it was not just an ordinary doll, but a reward obtained after playing the game for an afternoon.
Although she was annoyed by losing all the time, Ouyang Qing had to admit that she was indeed addicted to it and had spent a lot of time without realizing it.
She had finally obtained a reward after losing all afternoon, but it was ruined by someone, so how could she not be angry?
Well… even though she crushed the toy herself.
“Today’s game was meaningless.”
She said something contrary to her feelings. In fact, it was still a little interesting.
Ouyang Qing’s life was very long, but she was still a bit too lacking in entertainment. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have deliberately amused herself with Lu Zhiyin.
“If you can’t find something that pleases me next time, you can die.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Ouyang Qing walked past Lu Zhiyin. The moment they brushed past each other, the invisible pressure made Lu Zhiyin’s body lower by a few inches.
It wasn’t until Ouyang Qing walked away that Lu Zhiyin recovered. Her shirt on her back was soaked with sweat.
“… Tsk, as expected, interacting with this guy is totally different.”
Wiping the sweat beads from her forehead, Lu Zhiyin closed her eyes.
Ouyang Qing was different from other female leads. She couldn’t joke with Ouyang Qing, nor could she tease Ouyang Qing like she teased others.
…
After Ouyang Qing left, Lu Zhiyin applied for a job washing dishes at a restaurant near the school. Her wages were paid daily, by piece, at ten cents per plate.
She felt it was not bad. It might be a bit tiring, but at least she had a livelihood.
She had to start working on her first day of employment. Lu Zhiyin washed dishes outside for several hours. By the time she finished work, it was already ten o’clock in the evening.
Lu Zhiyin took a detour to a supermarket that was still open and bought a cheap turtle doll.
Well, ten yuan, a hundred plates. It wasn’t unacceptable, was it?
Lu Zhiyin returned to school with the doll.
The school gate was not closed, but the dormitory building had its lights turned off. Fortunately, it was only the lights that were off, not the doors.
Was the school’s inadequate security also a kind of luck?
With the turtle doll in her pocket, Lu Zhiyin groped her way in the dark towards the dormitory she had visited once during the day.
“Hoo… thankfully I have legs, otherwise it would have been really troublesome.”
Climbing the stairs, Lu Zhiyin muttered to herself.
To relieve fatigue and to bolster her courage.
To be honest, the dark dormitory building at night was quite scary.
When Lu Zhiyin returned to her dormitory safely, Ouyang Qing had already fallen asleep.
Lu Shiyu and Ouyang Qing were both characters temporarily added to this world. There was no place for them in the original world, so they both naturally enjoyed the double dormitory that Ouyang Qing had added.
“She didn’t even return to her own space.”
Looking at Ouyang Qing, who was sleeping on the single bed on the right side of the dormitory with no regard for her sleeping posture, Lu Zhiyin was somewhat incredulous.
She didn’t think this guy would sleep in the same dormitory as her before.
Well, but it didn’t matter, Lu Zhiyin didn’t mind anyway.
She carefully placed the turtle doll beside Ouyang Qing’s pillow, glanced at Ouyang Qing’s sleeping face in the moonlight, and then returned to her own bed.
Her day was not easy, especially after washing dishes for several hours in the evening. She felt exhausted all over.
Taking off her shoes and socks, Lu Zhiyin carefully touched the place where Ouyang Qing had kicked her.
Her skin was slightly swollen, and the slightest touch caused unbearable pain.
In the dark, Lu Zhiyin couldn’t treat her injury, so she could only lie on the bed and leave it to fate.
“… Sigh…”
She was determined to protect herself. She no longer had a resurrection armor and couldn’t be reckless anymore.
Pulling up the covers, Lu Zhiyin looked at the wooden board above her head, recalling the events of the past few days while sighing about how much she had changed.
“I’ve probably really become bad.”
She closed her eyes and soon fell into a deep sleep.
