Chapter 79: Kindness from Long Qinxin
In the rain, Long Qinxin sat in her car, leaning against the car door, watching the buildings flash by through the car window, a little worried.
She was wearing her school uniform over her pajamas and wasn’t in her usual pigtails, her black shoulder-length hair casually falling behind her.
She was supposed to be reviewing her homework at home. When she learned that there was no class today, she was a little disappointed because not going to school meant she couldn’t spend time with Lu Zhiyin.
It wasn’t until the afternoon when the rain got heavier that she started to worry about Lu Zhiyin’s safety.
She remembered where Lu Zhiyin lived, that area was all bungalows, and the power supply and flood control were not good enough.
So, Long Qinxin decided to go to Lu Zhiyin, partly out of concern for her safety, and partly out of her own selfish desires.
She wanted to see her friend, she wanted to be with her.
“Uncle Wu… can we go faster?”
Feeling inexplicably anxious, Long Qinxin knew that her request was a bit unreasonable.
Because of the rising water, the road conditions were very bad, and she had come in a hurry, so she didn’t have time to let her driver change to an SUV. The speed really couldn’t be increased.
Fortunately, their car’s chassis was reasonably high, otherwise, she didn’t know how much trouble it would be…
The driver in front didn’t reply, but Long Qinxin noticed the increase in speed.
Not long after, the car stopped. Through the car window, Long Qinxin could see Lu Zhiyin sitting at the entrance.
Her somewhat tense heart relaxed.
Pushing the car door open, Long Qinxin got out of the car. She didn’t even change into rain boots, still wearing ordinary sneakers. As soon as she got out, the accumulated water covered her lower leg, and the cold rainwater seeped into her shoes, making her shiver.
She took an umbrella from the seat and opened it. Perhaps she should be grateful that there was always an umbrella in the car, otherwise, she might have been even more embarrassed.
“Classmate Zhiyin.”
As soon as she opened the umbrella, she hurried towards Lu Zhiyin. Because of the accumulated water, her movements were a bit awkward, and she almost fell several times before steadying herself.
“Classmate Long Qinxin?”
Looking at the figure in front of her, Lu Zhiyin was a little taken aback and began to doubt if she was hallucinating.
Why would Long Qinxin suddenly come to find her?
There was no time to think about this question, Long Qinxin had already arrived in front of Lu Zhiyin. However, she didn’t do anything like hugging Lu Zhiyin, she just held Lu Zhiyin’s hand.
The soft touch in her palm made Long Qinxin a little dazed. Looking at Lu Zhiyin’s face, she didn’t know if it was an illusion, but she felt that the person in front of her seemed even more beautiful than yesterday, and smelled better.
“Mhm…? I’m here, why did you suddenly come here?”
Recovering quickly, Lu Zhiyin calmed down. She let Long Qinxin hold her hand.
Looking at the somewhat disheveled girl in front of her, Lu Zhiyin felt a mix of emotions.
“Um, I saw the rain getting heavier and the water level rising higher. If it continues like this, classmate Zhiyin might be in danger.”
As she said this, Long Qinxin looked at the ground behind Lu Zhiyin.
She only then realized that water had entered Lu Zhiyin’s house, and she felt a little scared.
She really came at the right time. If she had come any later, what would happen to her only friend? Would something unexpected happen and she’d leave her?
Although this thought might have been a bit exaggerated, Long Qinxin still didn’t dare to take the chance. She was truly terrified of being alone.
“Is that so? I understand, thank you for your concern, classmate Long Qinxin.”
Trying her best to appear gentle, Lu Zhiyin squeezed Long Qinxin’s hand back.
She felt a little emotional. Long Qinxin was always thinking of her, but she had to deceive her feelings to conquer her.
What a despicable act.
Holding Long Qinxin’s hand tightly, Lu Zhiyin hesitated for a moment, then hugged Long Qinxin before quickly letting go.
The brief hug might have been to gain favor, or simply out of guilt, but regardless, the hug made Long Qinxin feel warm.
She stared blankly at Lu Zhiyin, who was sitting properly in her wheelchair. In her eyes, the girl seemed to be emitting a white light.
Lingering on the warmth that had just passed, Long Qinxin’s grip on the umbrella became unsteady.
After a while, she came to her senses, her cheeks a little flushed. Had she lost her composure just now?
“…”
Looking at Long Qinxin, who was blushing in front of her, Lu Zhiyin had similar concerns.
Had she done too much?
Thinking this, Lu Zhiyin smiled silently, perhaps to ease the awkwardness.
“Ahem…”
Clearing her throat twice, Long Qinxin shook her head.
“In short, according to the current trend, the water level is bound to keep rising. Classmate Zhiyin, come with me.”
Putting the umbrella aside, Long Qinxin slightly bent down. She gazed into the girl’s beautiful red eyes, and some inexplicable emotion arose in her heart.
She felt like something had changed about her, and she didn’t know if it was an illusion.
“Where are we going?”
Looking at Long Qinxin, Lu Zhiyin didn’t reply immediately, but first asked a question.
This question troubled Long Qinxin.
To be honest, she really hadn’t thought about where to settle Lu Zhiyin when she came. Anyway… going back home was impossible, her parents wouldn’t let outsiders stay at their house.
“…Hmm, I’ll get a hotel room. It should be fine if the floor is high enough.”
After thinking for a moment, Long Qinxin quickly came up with a solution.
As long as there was money, accommodation could be easily solved. Although her family was no longer as wealthy as before, the money Long Qinxin could control was enough to support her friend living in a high-end hotel for a period of time.
“Mhm…”
Lu Zhiyin nodded with a soft “mhm.” She looked across the road, and Leng Qingqiu’s front door remained tightly shut.
She began to wonder if she should ask Leng Qingqiu to come along. After only a few seconds of thought, she came to a conclusion.
She couldn’t bring Leng Qingqiu.
Not to mention that Long Qinxin and Leng Qingqiu didn’t get along, and the reason she wasn’t seeking refuge at Leng Qingqiu’s was precisely her fear of Leng Qingqiu discovering her secret.
Although going with Long Qinxin might offend Leng Qingqiu and make her angry, it would only take some pain to appease her. If her divine abilities were discovered by a deity, she didn’t know how much suffering she would endure.
Weighing the pros and cons, Lu Zhiyin closed her eyes.
“Um, I’m going to get my wallet and phone.”
Opening her eyes again, she gave Long Qinxin an apologetic smile, then put all her possessions into her wallet, grabbed her phone and charger, and then controlled her wheelchair back to Long Qinxin’s side.
After that, Long Qinxin picked her up and put her in the car. After hesitating for a moment, she put Lu Zhiyin’s wheelchair in the trunk.
When the girls had fastened their seatbelts, the driver in front started the car, turned around, and drove towards the affluent area.
