Chapter Fifteen: Deep in the Mine Tunnel
Wu Yixuan also arrived behind Liu Haoyu.
“The collapsed mine tunnel back then was the deepest one, making rescue extremely difficult. By the time they finally managed to dig through, they found that the miners inside had vanished as if they had evaporated, and they couldn’t find them at all.”
“Shhh…”
Liu Haoyu made a shushing gesture.
Wu Yixuan and Deng Xiaolin also fell silent.
The man once again listened carefully to the wind blowing from the cave, but found that the wind was normal, just making a constant “woosh” sound.
Liu Haoyu withdrew his attention.
With a grave expression, he asked, “Old Mr. Wu, did the police search this mine tunnel before?”
“Of course, they did. All the mine tunnels in this mine have been thoroughly searched, but no useful clues were found.”
“Tsk…”
Deng Xiaolin asked.
“What’s wrong?”
“I thought I just heard the sound of a pickaxe hitting rocks from inside the mine tunnel, but now I can’t hear it anymore.”
At this moment, Wu Yixuan calmly analyzed.
“It might be the sound made by the vengeful spirits inside back then.”
Upon hearing this, Deng Xiaolin couldn’t help but shiver, scared.
Looking at the dark mine tunnel, coupled with the dark red moss on the rock walls, the entrance looked like the gaping mouth of some living creature, making it very eerie.
“We’re not… going down, are we?”
The dark and enclosed space already exerted immense psychological pressure on people, and on top of that, it was the middle of the night. To be honest, even Wu Yixuan felt that going down now was very risky.
Liu Haoyu glanced into the cave.
“We might not find anything in the daytime, but perhaps at night? And if it weren’t terrifying, how could it be called a supernatural event?”
“That’s true,” Deng Xiaolin said thoughtfully, “but the deepest mine tunnel is locked now, so logically, that person named Liao Tianyu shouldn’t have been able to enter.”
“There’s no such thing as impossible in supernatural events,” Liu Haoyu said, looking at Wu Yixuan. “Old Mr. Wu, do you have the key to that mine tunnel?”
“Yes, I do…”
Wu Yixuan held the peachwood sword in his hand.
“But I’ve never entered that mine tunnel at night, and I don’t use that tunnel to access the hidden world.”
“Doesn’t that prove it wasn’t searched? Let’s go.”
Liu Haoyu said, then put on his gas mask and took the lead.
“I’ll go ahead. Old Mr. Wu, please protect Deng Xiaolin.”
“Alright, be careful.”
The person who clears the path is usually the most dangerous one.
Therefore, Wu Yixuan couldn’t help but admire Liu Haoyu, sighing as he followed behind.
“As expected of Liu Jianjun’s son…”
However, Liu Haoyu didn’t hear these words. He walked at the forefront, his expression very focused.
The air inside this Ye Shangfeng coal mine seemed to circulate, and cold winds occasionally blew onto everyone’s faces.
With every section they passed, they could see a rusted ventilation pipe, and the openings were covered with unknown vines, looking like hands reaching out from the pipes…
“That mine tunnel is right here.”
Wu Yixuan pointed to the mine tunnel next to them.
“To allow the deceased to rest in peace, and to appease their families, the mine tunnel has been sealed with iron bars.”
Following the instructions, Liu Haoyu continued forward. Before long, he saw an iron gate covered with yellow rust. Even shining a flashlight inside, they couldn’t see anything.
However, they seemed to see some faint, blurry outlines, like the shadows of the miners who died there, or perhaps the shadows cast by light passing through the vines.
The warning sign at the entrance of the mine tunnel had long since faded, and the writing on it was covered by mud. Liu Haoyu reached out and wiped away the mud, barely able to decipher the words.
“Sealed on October 17, 1999…”
Wu Yixuan walked beside Liu Haoyu, took out a key, and opened the rusted iron gate.
As the iron gate slowly opened, the grating sound of metal friction echoed in the pitch-black mine tunnel.
A gust of cold wind blew, gently moving the iron chains above the mine tunnel, making a tinkling sound.
After entering the tunnel, the pungent metallic smell of blood became even stronger. Liu Haoyu glanced back at the two of them and asked.
“Are you alright?”
“We can take it…”
Deng Xiaolin pinched her nose, while Wu Yixuan’s expression was normal.
Seeing this, Liu Haoyu turned around, swept the flashlight beam inside, and then continued to walk further in.
He walked in front, with Wu Yixuan and Deng Xiaolin following about a meter behind.
This mine tunnel was very, very deep. Liu Haoyu felt like he had walked for a long time but never reached the end.
Along the way, the three of them didn’t speak, and the silence in the air was eerily strange.
If it weren’t for the two beams of light from the flashlights behind him, Liu Haoyu would have thought that the two behind him had gotten separated from him.
After all, walking at the front and back of a team required great courage.
“Drip… drip…”
As the damp, cold wind blew, Liu Haoyu noticed that the mine tunnel seemed to have been scoured into gullies by water. Because of this, the metal objects inside were riddled with rust, and the wooden support pillars were covered with unknown dark red mushrooms.
It looked like it could collapse at any moment…
“Crack…”
Just as Liu Haoyu was lost in thought, a crisp sound suddenly echoed in the mine tunnel.
“Crack… crack…”
The sound became more and more distinct, and the group began to look around, trying to find the source of the sound.
At this moment, Deng Xiaolin, with her keen ears, immediately noticed the source of the sound. Her eyes widened, and she quickly shouted.
“Hao-ge! Your feet!”
Hearing this, Liu Haoyu immediately looked down at his feet and saw that the floorboards beneath him were cracking bit by bit.
By the time he reacted, it was already too late.
“BOOM!”
The floor where Liu Haoyu was standing instantly collapsed, and he fell down.
“Hao-ge!”
Although Deng Xiaolin and Wu Yixuan were close to him, it was too late for them to reach out and grab him.
The flashlight beams shone into the collapsed opening, revealing an abyss that seemed bottomless.
Just as the two above were getting anxious, Liu Haoyu’s voice came from below.
“I’m fine!”
Under Qin Liu’s protection, Liu Haoyu landed safely, but the problem was, he felt that the air down here was not right…
The smell was like the stench of rot that had been present for a long time.
He turned on his flashlight and found himself in an underground stream. When he shone the flashlight upwards, he gasped in shock.
He saw the corpse of the Yin-Yang Master hanging on the rock wall, its body gnawed beyond recognition. The only remaining eye was wide open.
And its malevolent and desperate eyes were staring at Liu Haoyu’s location…
