Chapter 15 The Figure in the Supermarket
Time has arrived at evening, in front of the burnt-out supermarket.
Liu Haoyu and Wang Wenqi stood outside, their gazes scanning the exterior of the supermarket.
The other police officers were with the remaining members of the Special Task Force searching for the other eight hidden victims.
“Is Ke Wen really going to be here?”
Wang Wenqi’s flashlight attempted to illuminate the inside of the supermarket, but once the light entered, it was as if it was swallowed by something, and the inside remained dark.
Only the pale moonlight illuminated the charred outer wall of the supermarket, making the scene look like a skeleton stripped of its skin, which was quite chilling.
“If the Black Book is correct, it’s most likely inside here.”
“He…” Wang Wenqi hesitated for a moment before speaking: “Is he really still alive?”
Even though Liu Haoyu had said Ke Wen was still alive, he had been missing for nearly twelve hours, and moreover, he had disappeared during a supernatural event. In such a situation… even a god couldn’t save him.
“Still alive.”
Liu Haoyu glanced again at the bloodstains on the Black Book.
Through this drop of blood, he could still clearly sense Ke Wen’s vital signs.
This police officer was clearly still alive, but why he was still alive…
Liu Haoyu did not know.
“Let’s go.”
Tonight’s operation, besides Wang Wenqi, no other police officers participated in the search and rescue.
It wasn’t out of heroism, but Gu Qianyang not only wanted to kill four people, but the remaining eight people were equally worth attention, and they needed to be found quickly.
Under the leadership of other members of the Special Task Force, even if they couldn’t find all of them, it was definitely not a problem to find four or five.
“Hoo…” Wang Wenqi took a deep breath: “It’s been a long time since I’ve been back on the front lines.”
He relieved the tension in his heart, then walked towards the inside of the supermarket.
The two of them held tactical flashlights and slowly groped forward.
Wang Wenqi held a handgun, his finger resting on the trigger guard, his gaze vigilantly scanning every corner of the supermarket.
From the corner of his eye, he saw that Liu Haoyu had put on a gas mask at some point and was holding a fire axe. In this environment, he looked… completely in his element.
Even though Wang Wenqi had seen it many times, he couldn’t help but softly complain.
“Brother Liu, I really suggest you change your outfit. Your getup… it’ll make even a ghost mistake you for one.”
“Doesn’t this blend in with the environment?”
Liu Haoyu shrugged, showing no signs of repentance.
“Do you want a handgun?”
Wang Wenqi took out another handgun from his pocket and asked Liu Haoyu.
“If you want one, I’ll give you one.”
Upon hearing about a handgun, Liu Haoyu was stunned. He seemed to remember something.
Back when he was dealing with the Night Walker at Ye Shangfeng, didn’t a certain Black Book also give him a handgun?
Thinking of this, Liu Haoyu rummaged through his backpack.
As expected, that black handgun was still quietly lying in the backpack.
Looking at this thing, Liu Haoyu raised his head and looked at Wang Wenqi again.
Isn’t this a coincidence?
It’s just right now that he can hand over this hot potato to the state. If this thing is found, it’ll be a big problem.
“Captain Wang, I’ll give you this one, it’s powerful.”
Saying that, Liu Haoyu tossed the handgun from his backpack over.
Wang Wenqi, who was originally asking Liu Haoyu if he wanted a handgun, clearly didn’t expect him to throw something over. He fumbled to catch it, and after carefully inspecting it, the police officer looked at Liu Haoyu with an even stranger expression.
“Brother Liu, there’s no one else here now, so tell Uncle Wang the truth, are you really some kind of Texas murderer?”
“I’m a righteous person, this is for exorcising ghosts, it’s not lethal to people, I’m giving it to you.”
Seeing Liu Haoyu’s unwavering and sincere expression, Wang Wenqi reluctantly let him go.
However, as he was also a ghost exorcist, Wang Wenqi could see the formation on the handgun Liu Haoyu threw over. Although he didn’t know its purpose, it was definitely more practical than his own handgun.
“Thanks… why is it still a police model?”
“You don’t need to ask about that.”
Wang Wenqi put his two handguns back into his satchel, then loaded the handgun Liu Haoyu handed over.
After making thorough preparations, the two began to move further into the supermarket.
Although the fire had passed for nearly half a year, a strong smell of burnt food and some indescribable rotten scent still permeated the air here.
It was like the pungent smell of fuel burning, mixed with spoiled food.
Because the smell was indeed unpleasant, Wang Wenqi also put on a gas mask.
The two of them, one in front and one behind, walked towards the inside of the supermarket.
With every step on the charred floorboards, there was a slight “creak,” as if something was buried in the ashes beneath their feet.
“Boom! 鷗壹七爸VIII球器陸疑”
A loud noise instantly attracted the attention of the two. After shining their tactical flashlights over, they discovered that the shelf not far away had suddenly collapsed, and the cans, burnt down to just their metal shells, were scattered everywhere.
As the dust settled, the two looked at the position of the shelf and found a string of footprints on the ground.
These footprints looked very fresh and extended from the shelf all the way to the depths of the supermarket.
Moreover, the footprints were messy, as if one person was running and another was being dragged.
Liu Haoyu tucked the fire axe at his waist and crouched down.
The beam of the tactical flashlight shone on the footprints on the ground, and Liu Haoyu discovered that the ashes on the ground were wet and had a slightly sticky texture. This texture was very similar to the slime from the factory before.
Seeing this, Liu Haoyu frowned. He looked up into the dark depths of the supermarket, his gaze somewhat solemn.
“Do you think he’s still alive?”
In fact, seeing this, Wang Wenqi no longer held much hope in his heart.
Liu Haoyu did not answer, but stood up, gripping the fire axe in his hand. The axe blade gleamed with a cold metallic luster in the darkness, making him look like a thug.
After staring for a while, Liu Haoyu made a tactical gesture to Wang Wenqi, who understood his meaning, and they continued to advance along the footprints.
Passing through the collapsed shelves, the two soon arrived at the warehouse area behind the supermarket.
The door here was half-open, and it was pitch black inside, as if something had entered.
Liu Haoyu walked to the door, took a deep breath, and then suddenly pushed the door open. The beams of two flashlights instantly tore through the darkness.
Wang Wenqi held his handgun at the ready behind him, while Liu Haoyu led the way in front. The two looked towards the depths of the warehouse.
Then they saw a person, with their back to them.
This person was wearing a police uniform, was soaking wet, and stood motionless.
His uniform was intact, but he was completely soaked, as if he had just been fished out of water.
Looking at this person’s back, Wang Wenqi suddenly felt something was wrong.
Because although they were all wearing police uniforms, Ke Wen… clearly did not have such a robust physique.
