Chapter 57: No Indulgence
Ji Ma and Shuang Ye discussed their plan to go to O suan.
Directly running to the White Tower and pulling out Eve Shuang Ye as an introduction would naturally not work.
She didn’t have that authority, and considering Ji Ma’s identity, it was likely that the high elf garrison would directly judge that this was a plot of the Dark Sin, and they would invite her to be burnt by fireballs.
At this point, Eve Shuang Ye fell silent.
She felt troubled. George’s words echoed in her mind.
Give your parents a chance… also give yourself a chance…
You won’t regret it later, right now…
But without hope, there would not be disappointment.
Having stayed in the high elf court for too long, Eve Shuang Ye was well aware of the importance of reputation and knew that she was essentially a burden to her parents.
After all, nominally, they were not husband and wife.
There was already a princess title, one that was of their own flesh and blood. Politically speaking, as far away as she could die, she should die.
Her mother knew she had feelings for George but merely put on a verbal obstruction and soon let her go to take risks with him.
By that time, she was already pregnant, but she didn’t tell her, it must have been calculated.
However, George’s words planted a seed of hope in her heart, a seed whose power to sprout was so resilient, so difficult to resist.
To hold hope and receive despair is painful. Not to mention she had personally said that she would never see them again even if she died.
Eve Shuang Ye thought this, her green eyes fixed on the mature and beautiful face of the succubus in front of her, hoping she would suggest taking her to meet the O suan guards.
Ji Ma guessed something, sighed deeply and said:
“It’s difficult, very difficult. It’s likely that as soon as I pull you out, they will think that you have been corrupted by the Dark Sin and send dragon mages to burn us all to ashes.”
Eve Shuang Ye felt anxious, her thin lips moved slightly, but still didn’t say anything.
Ji Ma propped her chin on her hand, tilting her head, looking at Eve Shuang Ye and said:
“However, there is another way. The O suan guards are the chairmen of the War Council, nominally the commanders of all high elf kingdoms’ armies. If we have his support…”
Eve Shuang Ye’s pointed ears perked up, just waiting for her to say that sentence.
“But you also said you’d rather die than see that man.” Ji Ma said, “Besides, he might be colluding with your uncle to plot against… sigh, this is really difficult.”
Eve Shuang Ye’s pointed ears drooped down, reluctantly agreeing, “Right.”
Although she didn’t understand what colluding meant.
“However, it seems you’re not in life-threatening danger. If I sense something is wrong, I’ll dismiss you directly, and I’m good at escaping.”
Eve Shuang Ye’s pointed ears perked up again.
“… But still forget it.” Ji Ma pretended: “Such an irresponsible and cold father, it’s better not to see him, in case it hurts your heart, right, Shuang Ye?”
Eve Shuang Ye looked at Ji Ma, she could clearly see the corners of her eyes slightly raised, suppressing a laugh.
Eve Shuang Ye tried hard to say, “Right. But the Dark God cannot be trusted. For your sake, I can reluctantly accept meeting him.”
“I’m very righteous.” Ji Ma said, “I’d rather dance with the Lord of Deception than hurt your heart. Rest assured.”
“But…”
“There’s no but.” Ji Ma raised her head, patting her own chest and said, “We are good sisters. Although you slightly betrayed me last night, it was only in jest. I can distinguish clearly, as your older sister, how could I let you suffer?”
Eve Shuang Ye, sensitive to sound, could hear the sound of Ji Ma’s back teeth grinding against each other as she spoke.
Eve Shuang Ye said, “But the Lord of Deception is even more dangerous. I cannot let you fall into danger.”
“It doesn’t matter, it’s settled.” Ji Ma stood up abruptly, her black hair blocking her left eye swaying: “I will confront the Lord of Deception.”
Saying this, she didn’t give Eve Shuang Ye a chance to speak and turned to leave.
One step, two steps, three steps, four steps…
The Nimbus Cloud was right beside her, but she didn’t sit on it; she was clearly teasing Eve Shuang Ye.
Eve Shuang Ye gritted her teeth and remained silent, but when Ji Ma’s back reached the doorway, she finally couldn’t help but say, “Ji Ma…”
Huh?
Eve Shuang Ye lowered her head and said, “Take me to see the O suan guards.”
“What?” Ji Ma pretended to be surprised, turned her head and asked her: “Why?”
“Because…” Eve Shuang Ye raised her head and said: “I don’t want to regret it.”
“Ha.” Ji Ma laughed: “Then it’s settled, I’ll go see your dad at O suan.”
She originally wanted to emphasize that she was an orphan, but was afraid Ji Ma would directly overturn the table and mock her, so she remained silent.
Ji Ma laughed a few times, spread her wings and with a flap, took off. The ceiling automatically cracked open, creating a hole, and in the blink of an eye, she vanished into the false blue sky.
Crossing through a dream of black and white, she quickly flew toward O suan.
After Ji Ma left, Shuang Ye sighed in relief and sat back in her chair.
That night, she tossed and turned, having many nightmares. She dreamed that her father had come to the Kane Temple, pulled out the Divine Sword of the Purple Twisted Light, his eyes blood red. She called out “father,” but he coldly replied: “I have no illegitimate child, but your blood is just right for a sacrifice.”
Having said that, he struck with the sword.
She dreamed again that her father didn’t pull out the sword but merely coldly watched her and Ji Ma. Determined, he stated that she had been corrupted by the Dark Sin and should be purified with gentle fire, and taken into the O suan temple to be roasted by holy fire.
She sometimes dreamed that the Elf Queen was holding an infant, looking at her in surprise, saying: “So you’re really not dead. It’s all your fault; otherwise, he wouldn’t have to pull out the Kane Divine Sword.”
She dreamed again that it was all just a misunderstanding.
Her mother was holding her, smiling, complaining that she had come too late, her father had already pulled out the Kane Divine Sword, estranged from his relatives, and wrapped in curses.
Shuang Ye woke up again from this dream, her eyes gazing into the darkness of the tent, staring all night.
Several days later.
North of O suan island.
A tall, slender high elf hunter, having not caught any prey today, carried a basket full of mushrooms in one hand while holding a red wild fruit in the other.
Ji Ma directly took one of his ripe red fruits and said, “One large one, trade for two small ones, how about that?”
The tall, slender hunter found it hard to take his eyes off her, nodded and said, “Alright, here you go.”
“I said, I’ll take two fruits and trade for your mushrooms. Isn’t that a big profit?” Ji Ma said whimsically, handing a high elf hunter the fruits, “Is that fair?”
The tall hunter nodded: “Very fair.”
“Look at these fresh mushrooms, they’re in excellent condition. I’ll exchange them for all your wild fruits, isn’t that a big profit?”
Ji Ma said, giving a basket of fresh mushrooms to the tall hunter, “What do you think?”
“A big profit.”
“Good, please put all the wild fruit you’re holding into the basket.”
Ji Ma said: “Then you can go back and brag to your kin about meeting a beautiful fairy in the woods today and making a big profit.”
The tall hunter smiled: “Big profit, big profit.”
Ji Ma carried a basket of ripe wild fruits and flapped her wings to fly away, while the tall hunter happily went off with the mushrooms.
Flying in the air, Ji Ma took a bite and found it a bit sweet but quite sour.
“Pah!” She spat it out: “I knew I couldn’t pin my hopes on untamed wild fruits.”
Now she truly missed the fruits that had been tamed back on Earth.
Although they weren’t the best tasting, these wild fruits picked by hunters could still serve as snacks to tide her over.
She leaped across a small strait and saw a large island, so vast it extended to the horizon. Flying in the air, Ji Ma couldn’t see its edges.
The ground on the island was pitch black, with no hint of green, only ancient charred tree clusters; the entire island looked as though it had been roasted by fire from head to toe.
Ji Ma saw a ten-mile-long high elf army on duty, with white tents sprouting like mushrooms on the black scorched earth. Phoenixes and giant eagles circled above the camp.
In the open space, elven craftsmen were constructing siege towers.
And across the distance was a black fortress, which was the Kane Temple, where an entire high elf army was stationed to guard the Kane Divine Sword.
Ji Ma swallowed the last fruit, spat out the pit, casually tossed the basket aside, and said: “It’s time for battle.”
