Chapter 140 Chapter 141 The Terrifying Devil in the Dream
With a spell, they slowly inhaled the fragrant incense and relaxed their minds. George and Eve Frostleaf, in a daze, entered Mr. Dongdong’s dream together.
“What audacity.”
A loud voice, both commanding and sinister, resounded within their hearts.
Eve Frostleaf quickly tightened her grip on the bow, while George, draped in a cape over his armor, swiftly raised his hand to stop her, whispering, “The situation isn’t familiar yet.”
After saying that, George observed their surroundings.
Gray mist enveloped them, and in the distance, through the haze, loomed a colossal pyramid-like structure resembling a grand throne. The people in front appeared as small as ants, with Mr. Dongdong kneeling before this throne-like building, resembling a piece of chewing gum spat on the ground.
He shivered all over, continuously muttering, “My lord, I was wrong, wrong.”
On the high throne, a tall and vague figure could be seen beyond the gray mist, possibly several stories high. A bloody light emanated from its chest, pulsing with every breath. A terrifyingly large, pitch-black sword was stuck at its feet, and George could vaguely see a furry pink bunny tail tied to the hilt.
“Haha, I’ve been waiting for you for quite some time.” The devil’s voice boomed like thunder, “From the very beginning, I saw through your pitiful schemes, mortals.”
“I… I understand.” Mr. Dongdong suddenly spoke, “Please take my soul and spare my family.”
“Why should I give up three souls?” the devil replied, “And I must thank the great cathedral for letting you break the rules; otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to claim your soul.”
Mr. Dongdong burst into tears in fear.
George gripped the massive sword tightly, walking past the sobbing Mr. Dongdong, the blade pointed at the lofty devil.
“Ha, so you dare to move forward? Pitiful and insignificant mortals, your anger is worthless.” The devil remained unfazed, lounging on the throne with one hand propping up his chin.
“You cannot claim his soul.” Eve Frostleaf drew her bow, aiming at the devil, “You are just a devil pretending to be powerful; we have checked the records, and you are nothing but a shadow in history.”
“Hahahaha.” A frenzied laughter echoed throughout the space as the enormous devil stood up, “Because this pathetic and backward world has never witnessed my greatness, that is the greatest misfortune of this world.”
The great devil laughed loudly, raising both arms. The gray mist dispersed due to the imposing aura emanating from him, and now Eve Frostleaf could clearly see the appearance of the great devil. He stood over three meters tall, clad in astonishingly thick black armor, resembling a moving fortress.
Behind the great devil, suddenly appeared a gigantic, burning black dragon, with a square iron chin like a projection.
He pronounced each word clearly: “I was once called the Wing of Death, the Doomsayer, the Ender of All, unstoppable and unresistable; I am the Great Cataclysm.”
With each title he uttered, the scene behind him shifted. The ground cracked open, the black dragon spread its wings, floods toppled goblin statues, and dwarven dams broke apart; beneath its wings, the earth burned. The imagery was vivid.
Finally, the iron black dragon landed on a city wall, spreading its wings that obscured the sky, and roared, causing the statues of heroes to topple.
Eve Frostleaf was horrified, raising a hand to shield her face, feeling the searing heat on her skin.
Mr. Dongdong, unable to suppress his curiosity, lifted his head, only to be horrified, losing consciousness and rolling his eyes, fainting in the dream.
“No, this isn’t real…” Eve Frostleaf didn’t notice her voice was low, lacking confidence.
“Ridiculous. You, an elf bound by a lowly curse who cannot even shoot an arrow, dare to question me?” The great devil on the throne pointed at her, “Your eyes cannot bear my memories.”
After saying that, he shook his arms, “I once led swarms to devour countless human worlds. You, short-sighted mortals, have never seen the vastness of the galaxy…”
Before his booming voice could finish, a gigantic scene transformed behind the great devil.
Several iron giants with fiery tails flew over a sprawling steel city below, and as the scene shifted, a grotesque leviathan, larger than the entire city, floated in the dark sky.
The steel giants seemed as insignificant as fleas on a human body before the leviathan.
The fear of gigantic beings raised goosebumps on Eve Frostleaf’s skin.
Then, squid-like creatures erupted from the flesh leviathan, descending upon the city.
Inconceivably, myriad unheard-of monsters surged from the squids. The iron giants that had just soared in the sky suddenly turned into small iron men, standing before a three-story tall monster resembling an elephant, shooting flames from their arms but being swatted down effortlessly by the elephant-monster.
Inside the city, human armies stood ready. Eve Frostleaf and George had never seen such a powerful military; every soldier wore astonishingly thick armor, and perhaps they were not even human—each one was a titan.
Strange iron war chariots extended four legs, spewing flames.
The camera shifted; not far away, hordes of monsters surged toward the human army, and the flames from the iron war chariots only raised weak sparks amidst the tidal wave.
The swarms overwhelmed the military formation.
A massive iron warship descended from the sky toward the city…
At some point, Eve Frostleaf felt cold sweat covering her forehead. She could see that the strength of the civilized side far exceeded that of this world. She had seen dark elves floating on a black ark upon the sea, a piece of floating land, immense beyond measure.
And the civilized side within it could make iron warships, comparable to the black ark, fly in the air, allowing every soldier to wear heavy armor and wield fire-breathing magical weapons. Yet even so, the formidable iron warships still fell, and the entire city was submerged by the swarms.
Her heartbeat quickened, and she looked at the great devil’s gaze differently.
Eve Frostleaf had initially thought he was just an exaggerating devil, but to her surprise, he turned out to be a pure incarnation of evil crossing different worlds, much like the evil gods of the demon race.
No, he was even more powerful than the evil gods of the demon race.
“Hehehe…”
The pitch-black devil on the throne chuckled darkly, as if mocking the ignorance of mortals.
A hand clenched around Eve Frostleaf’s hand, as George whispered, “Don’t be scared; that’s just the devil trying to fool you.”
“Impossible.” Eve Frostleaf shook her head. “What he shows are things the world has never seen before, the details are too perfect to be imagined.”
“I’ll prove it to you.”
George gripped his sword, stepping up the stairs, climbing several steps at once.
“Ha, quite bold indeed.” The great devil laughed, “Not only do you not back down, but you come closer to me. Such courage is commendable.”
George said, “If I don’t get close to you, how can I defeat you?”
Just moments ago, the imposing “great devil” trembled at George’s voice, nearly losing his grip on his sword.
“I have a deal; I can tell you where the stolen extraordinary materials are.”
George remained unfazed, leaping up and swinging his sword toward the great devil.
“Boring, you can’t kill anyone in a dream.”
The great devil laughed, but this time his laughter sounded less imposing; with a wave of his hand, before George could strike, a surge of gray mist enveloped him, and his figure vanished into the mist.
George swung at emptiness, standing there in a daze until Eve Frostleaf clapped his helmet, asking, “What’s wrong with you?”
“I just feel like this devil seems familiar somehow.”
