Chapter 52 Chapter 51 Untitled
As the saying goes, those who pretend to be asleep cannot be awakened no matter what. Ji Ma continued sleeping for three days and nights without eating. The Holy Hall examined her three times, each time concluding that she was in good health and had a stable mental state. No need to say more, at least she was much healthier than a certain lord in the Holy Hall who was stuck with platinum.
But she just wouldn’t wake up.
George had always been patient, but he was becoming restless in Kisliv, even starting to doubt whether Ji Ma had encountered an accident.
Things in Kisliv wrapped up quickly, and the aftermath was swift, mainly because the female tsarina Catherine received Ji Ma’s extremely perfunctory letter, and hurried back to Kisliv overnight. After learning the situation, she threw a tantrum and even personally apologized to George.
On that day, the Duke of Kisliv had no choice but to leave Kisliv, publicly stating that he was taking his wife to receive medical treatment. Yet everyone believed it was merely a decent excuse, and they would certainly divorce when everyone had forgotten.
Ji Ma opened her eyes only after confirming that the Duchess had left, no longer pretending to be asleep, and immediately ran to Kisliv to meet George.
…
In the living room, where the fire blazed brightly, George’s armor reflected the flames. He sat in a solid chair specially made for his kind, those who wore heavy armor.
Jenna was looking at a large book while Eve Frostleaf was boredly picking at her fingernails.
“It’s been four days without contact.” Jenna lifted her head and closed the book, saying, “Ji Ma hasn’t had any accidents, has she?”
George replied, “She is quite good at escaping.”
“Unfortunately, we can’t reach the Holy Hall.”
Suddenly, the door swung open, and Ji Ma appeared with a plump orange cat hanging around her neck, wearing a sun hat, and carrying bags in both hands, beaming as she said, “Hi! Everyone! Long time no see.”
“Ji Ma.” George turned his head toward her, donning his Shirell helmet. She looked as if she had just returned from a trip. He asked, “Where have you been these past few days?”
Ji Ma lifted her back foot and kicked the door closed, saying, “Well, to celebrate our team’s success in thwarting the Lord of Deception’s plot and taking an important step on our journey to save the world, I just went on a little trip.”
“Ji Ma!” George clenched his fist, “This isn’t the time for games.”
“Don’t be mad, everyone.” Ji Ma smiled brightly, “I’ve brought back some local specialties for you all.”
With that, Ji Ma walked up to Eve Frostleaf.
The latter was displeased and didn’t want to pay her any attention.
After putting down some bags, Ji Ma took out a bag filled with jars of devil chili powder. “This is the devil chili I brought back from the Ausuan archipelago, the kind you usually love.”
Eve Frostleaf’s interest was piqued; her chili powder had long been used up, and her lack of intense stimulation lately meant she was reduced to picking at her fingernails with a dagger. She accepted the large bag of chili powder from Ji Ma, took out a jar, opened it, and took a sniff of the paper-wrapped chili powder.
Ji Ma quickly stepped back a few paces.
Eve Frostleaf carefully put away the chili powder and said, “Thank you.”
“The war in your homeland has also calmed down, the demon tribe is almost exterminated.”
After Jima said this, she turned to Jenna and presented her with several bags of thoughtful gifts. Of course, what made Jenna the happiest was when Ji Ma leaped into her arms, acting like a little girl, saying:
“Jenna, big sister, long time no see, I missed you so much.”
Jenna beamed with joy.
Heh, this big-breasted airhead is just happy pretending to be the lady of the house.
Ji Ma smirked inwardly, leaning against her chest.
Lastly, Ji Ma glanced at George, who was still fussing over something, then looked at the two women who were both happy; since that was the case, there was no need to curry favor with this guy. She said, “I forgot to bring you a gift.”
Was it just her imagination, or did she see George roll his eyes?
“Alright.” George said, “Let’s do a divination. We need to confirm the exact location of the Demon Lord Crown fragment.”
With that, George raised his hand clad in an iron glove and pointed to the map on the table: “Everyone, be ready to respond to the next battle at any time.”
Just like staring into an abyss, one is also stared back at by the abyss.
When Ji Ma performed the divination for the Demon Lord Crown fragment, her own coordinates would also be revealed. She sat down at the table, took out her pre-prepared divination tools, and prepared for the divination.
During the boredom, they began chatting.
George pointed at the fat cat hanging around Ji Ma’s neck and asked, “Why is your cat hanging around your neck?”
“Have you never seen fur fashion?”
“Is your cat dead?”
The cat, Lianxi, hanging around Ji Ma’s neck, lifted its head and shot George an unfriendly glance.
“Dead? She’s a good cat, keeping me warm like a scarf.”
Ji Ma didn’t mention that she noticed the noblewomen in Kisliv City liked to wrap fur around their necks, finding it amusing, and thus begged Lianxi for sympathy.
George looked at her bare arms and asked curiously:
“But cold doesn’t bother you?”
Ji Ma rolled her eyes at him: “This showcases my nobility.”
“I see noblewomen prefer fox and mink fur; I haven’t seen anyone use a cat.”
“But theirs are all dead; they can spend hundreds of gold coins to buy high-end fur, but they can’t buy a well-behaved cat.” After saying that, Ji Ma petted Lianxi’s neck. The latter purred with comfort, “Plus she’s so cute; compared to them, they are just country bumpkins.”
George found Ji Ma’s twisted logic somewhat convincing: “That makes sense.”
“What happened with the Duke of Kisliv that day?” Ji Ma casually brought it up, “I saw him leading a rescue from the divination basin?”
“The battle report is to your left; it’s very detailed.” George said, “And, you will need to call for the battle report later.”
“Please don’t mention the report.” Ji Ma supported her forehead and said, “Just tell me, since arranging the divination is not a matter of a moment.”
“Last time I saw you, you only needed a compass.”
“This time it has to be precise, so we need the divination ritual to increase accuracy.” Ji Ma looked at Jenna and said, “Jenna, you agree that professionals should handle professional matters, right?”
Jenna immediately defended Ji Ma: “George, you don’t understand divination. Theoretically, Ji Ma is correct.”
George had no choice but to hold his tongue and recounted what had happened that day: “The Duke and his wife got into an argument on the battlefield. The Duke accused his wife of not deceiving him at all, while the Duchess said she wasn’t there to ask for his forgiveness.”
Ji Ma asked, “Then what happened?”
“Catherine is a wise ruler, knowing right from wrong. She mediated and punished the Duke instead.” George said: “Today, the Duke said he wanted to take his wife to seek medical treatment.”
“That’s probably an excuse.” Ji Ma got the answer she wanted; this line of questioning would make George subconsciously think that she didn’t know the Duchess had already left Kisliv.
She sighed with relief in her heart. As long as I run fast enough, I can leave the past behind on the horizon.
“I don’t think so.”
“Why?” Ji Ma said, “Didn’t they argue publicly?”
“The Duke hates being deceived by his wife and is psychologically traumatized by her giving birth to a mutant.” George said: “Now that his wife has admitted it, plus Jenna has treated her, and her ailment can be cured.”
“What ailment?”
“According to him, during those years she was a slave, the Demon Lord Ji Ma’s tainted white liquid corroded her wife’s womb.”
I didn’t even know I was that powerful; truly, what kind of hat can’t be put on my head? Clearly, I sought the blessing of lust and sin, and not only did the white liquid remain untainted, but I wouldn’t become pregnant either. Would I ruin the hard-to-collect maid I finally got?
Ji Ma said: “So that’s how it is. Since the problem is so simple, why wasn’t it treated earlier?”
“Before, they said there was nothing they could do.”
At this point, Jenna spoke up: “Actually, it’s a very simple contamination issue. With my initial treatment, it could be resolved in a year or two.”
Ji Ma said, “Then it must be the Lord of Deception’s plot.”
George said, “Fortunately, fate didn’t continue to make it difficult for them. Watching their argument, they still have feelings for each other, I think.”
Ji Ma shook her head, not agreeing.
