Chapter 171: Chapter 166: Fire
Two streams of dragon breath suddenly engulfed the crowd that was surrounding and beating someone, the flames sweeping in all directions, drowning out the insignificant cries for help.
That was the finest strength of the expeditionary army. Ji Ma saw, in the crimson flames, the bear bowed its head, and its master on its back remained motionless, leaving only a black shadow.
The surrounding winged knights were affected, their wings ablaze, and they scattered in panic.
The hot air that surged upwards created a violent wind that blew Ji Ma, whose smile had frozen, tumbling several times.
She momentarily forgot to regain her balance.
What was the two-headed dragon thinking?
By burning away the finest part of the expeditionary army, the hope of killing the Eternal Chosen was completely lost. Did it have the confidence to kill the Eternal Chosen? That was completely against its greatest interest!
But after Ji Ma regained her balance, she took a deep breath and barely steadied her emotions.
Assuming most people are rational beings is not a conclusion arrived at through rational thought.
As the flames receded, the reddened ground was littered with many charred corpses, both human and horse. This spout of fire was more powerful and terrifying than the previous ones.
At the center of the eruption, Ji Ma even saw several black shadows.
Her gaze hovered over the burnt corpses on the battlefield, trying to identify a body that might belong to George.
On the scorched ground, a few people stood alone, all powerful. Ji Ma quickly spotted George; he was setting down a charred corpse in his arms, and it was evidently male.
That idiot, indeed, went to be someone else’s shield.
Ji Ma put down her binoculars, feeling a sense of relief in her heart.
At the center of the dragon breath, on the reddened, searing ground, the Eternal Chosen knelt on one knee, one hand holding a tower shield, emitting heat from his body, with the surrounding air distorted. His black-and-red cloak was still there, though the edges were singed.
How could he be foolish enough to try to kill the Eternal Chosen with dragon breath? The dragon breath couldn’t even rapidly kill me.
Ji Ma cursed the two-headed dragon silently.
The Eternal Chosen set down his shield, revealing a gleam on his chest plate.
Ji Ma stared for a moment before realizing that it was the heated tip of a spear that had pierced through the front of his chest plate. That was the strongest part of the armor.
The Eternal Chosen Marus forcefully pulled out the spearhead, his blood gushing forth, bright red, that was molten iron; in a previous bestowal from the dark god, his blood had been replaced with molten iron.
Ji Ma knew this and wasn’t particularly surprised. She had also seen many blessed individuals whose blood had turned to excrement, torturing their enemies each time they were injured.
The Eternal Chosen was injured. After fighting for so long, he had finally sustained severe injuries. The two-headed dragon actually had the ability to injure the Eternal Chosen.
Ji Ma suddenly understood; this spout of breath was intended to cover his killing move.
But why couldn’t the Eternal Chosen Marus foresee the future and avoid or block this attack?
Did he foresee an inevitable victory in the future, using injury to lure the two-headed dragon into hand-to-hand combat to seize the crown fragment?
Or was it that he simply couldn’t foresee the future in that moment?
Before Ji Ma could reach a conclusion, the Eternal Chosen Marus raised his sword, pointing it at Ji Ma, shouting, “Kill that succubus!”
A gust of wind rushed from behind, and Ji Ma’s body twisted like a noodle as she dodged the oncoming lance, but her luck was terrible; the lance exploded as it passed her, due to her twisting.
The spear shifted, violently hitting her back, and for a moment, Ji Ma felt her insides shake, the world fading to half black, dropping toward the ground. With a forceful flap of her bony wings, she flew up again.
“How could I get hit by that?”
A voice approached.
Ji Ma looked over to see the blood dragon knight Duncan riding a swaying zombie dragon flying toward her. He leaped up high, looking down, his lance pointing at Ji Ma.
Though he didn’t have a horse, he looked quite foolish, holding the lance under his arm.
However, Ji Ma’s sense of danger surged, feeling as if a crossbow was aimed at her.
She quickly checked her life-saving skills; “Doppelganger”? Not enough magic; using it would certainly push her over the 20% danger line.
Summoning the bald-headed strongman was the same; without the branch axe spear on her, she was defenceless.
Drinking a potion? What potion could stop a lance?
A fridge? What could she do if he was squatting next to the fridge?
Endless thoughts vanished when a pair of ethereal dragon wings appeared behind blood dragon knight Duncan as he transformed into a blur, fast as a missile.
Ji Ma accelerated her flight, performing all sorts of maneuvers, but Duncan simultaneously changed direction, the tip of his lance locking onto Ji Ma’s back heart.
In the blink of an eye, that lance which had pierced Veilin was upon her.
Ji Ma finally understood why the lance could kill the agile Veilin.
Without saying a word, she tightened her grip on the oval ice crystal, transforming into a fridge.
The lance collided, the immense kinetic energy causing the mirror-like ice surface to crack with circles of spiderweb-like fissures.
The fridge hurtled straight down from the sky, crashing into the searing stone surface, half of it embedded in the ground.
This inertia nearly killed Ji Ma; fortunately, she was not an ordinary person, having magical protection, yet her vision was still a blur of red and black.
When the red and black faded, she saw through the spiderwebbed ice surface the blood dragon knight Duncan looking down at her, holding a black knight’s sword.
Some shattered ice fell onto the scalding ground, rising white vapor by his side.
His decaying face had a hole in his cheek, and fangs protruded from his lips, mumbling something, his mouth never stopping.
Ji Ma’s ears rang, buzzing, unable to hear anything clearly. She felt like a fish frozen in ice, while outside, the blood dragon knight Duncan’s gaze seemed to want to make her into sashimi.
She despised eating sashimi and also hated becoming sashimi.
Seconds ticked by, long enough to make one want to crawl into a grave.
Finally, Ji Ma heard the blood dragon knight Duncan’s words; he said:
“… You must be shouting: ‘Hubby, come save me, right?’ Don’t look at me so surprised, I understand everything. For the sake of morale, I’ll laugh heartily and tell you, your husband can’t come, he’s a paladin.
“You’re a demon, how could he possibly come to save you for justice or whatever?
“But I am the Chosen of the Blood God, upright and proper; I am not one of your wicked shape-shifting master’s followers. Let me tell you this: even if your husband rushes over, he can’t save you. I’m telling you, no matter how he tries to cut me, when this ice shatters, I will take your life with one sword.
“I will chop off your head, not touching your hair; you will definitely die, don’t think too much about it, unless I’m foolish enough to leave.”
Why does this person have so much to say, and why is he speaking so fast? Like a machine gun.
Ji Ma felt as if a noisy red parrot was standing in front of her.
In the distance behind him, a zombie dragon crashed straight down to the ground, and Eve Frostleaf fell gracefully like dandelion seeds, slowly descending.
“Boom.”
The blood dragon knight Duncan turned back, screaming, “My dragon!”
This zombie dragon had sustained many injuries and had finally died, its head filled with arrows from Eve Frostleaf’s blade.
She landed on the dragon’s head, bow in hand, looking down haughtily at the blood dragon knight Duncan.
This symbolized that the side of the Eternal Chosen had completely lost aerial power.
But the overall structure of the zombie dragon remained intact.
The blood dragon knight Duncan said, “Fortunately, it can be revived.”
Eve Frostleaf waved her hand, flames bursting forth from her palm, engulfing the entire zombie dragon in a fierce blaze.
Blood dragon knight Duncan gritted his teeth, saying, “Ordinary mortal fire.”
Eve Frostleaf took out a bottle of holy oil and poured it into the flames, instantly filling them with a holy aura, turning white, the zombie dragon’s corpse emitting white smoke as if corroded.
Not only that, she also made a gesture; in the distance, Jenna shot out white light, roasting the zombie dragon’s corpse until it was charred.
The blood dragon knight Duncan squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth:
“I’m not stupid; you’re just making me angry. Although this dragon has significant sentimental value to me—it’s proof of my breaking the blood curse.”
Cracks began to spread across the fridge.
The blood dragon knight traced his sword above Ji Ma’s head: “I will first chop off her head and then dismember her.”
He didn’t even know if Eve Frostleaf could hear him.
Eve Frostleaf, without knowing where she pulled it from, held up a Sigmar emblem high, her face indifferent, “Sigmar above! Look at that cowardly vampire knight; as the children of Sigmar, we will surely crush him.”
The Sigmar emblem shook, like a red flag waving in front of an angry bull. Along with the scornful and proud expression on Eve Frostleaf’s oval face.
Ji Ma felt like punching her.
“Kill you! Then kill her!”
The blood dragon knight Duncan’s eyes burst with red light, his foot kicked off the “fridge,” and he shot toward Eve Frostleaf like a cannonball.
The latter did not hesitate, turning and sprinting away with her long legs, running faster than the wind, while ice crystal-like arrows kept pounding down on the blood dragon knight Duncan’s head, causing him to roar in anger:
“Kill kill kill kill kill!”
Truly, Frostleaf was worthy of being the Chosen of the Blood God.
But even if he was faster than a galloping horse, he could not catch up to Eve Frostleaf.
Ji Ma had a ridiculous thought for a moment. Perhaps Eve Frostleaf had grown such long legs precisely because she was so annoying; otherwise, she would have been killed long ago.
No, it should be that she grew such long legs, realizing no one could catch her, hence becoming so irritating.
Ji Ma chose to cancel the fridge.
The sky-blue shards of ice scattered, and Ji Ma leaped up, flapping her wings to fly into the sky, transforming into a free bird.
Below, she heard the blood dragon knight Duncan’s roar, like a beast. He restrained his anger, not chasing after Eve Frostleaf, who was continually shooting arrows at him, but running to extinguish the fire on his zombie dragon.
It had already been charred; regardless, reviving it would require significant effort and time.
“Ji Ma! Come here.”
Eve Frostleaf called out.
Ji Ma flew toward her, and Eve Frostleaf forcefully threw a straight branch at Ji Ma. Ji Ma grasped the straight branch, which was naturally straight and had a leaf on it, the bark tinted red.
It was her branch blessed by the Blood God, which Frostleaf had taken from the corpse of the bald-headed strongman.
Ji Ma sincerely shouted, “Thank you!”
Eve Frostleaf merely nodded.
Ji Ma directed her gaze to another battle-scarred battlefield.
It was a chaotic melee.
Some were attacking the ancient dragons flying in the sky, others were attacking the injured Eternal Chosen, while some hesitated, attacking the Eternal Chosen, worried about being sprayed by the ancient dragons.
The chaos wasn’t just here; it was chaotic everywhere else as well.
The expeditionary army was essentially like headless chickens, each fighting on their own, with no one organizing a new wave of cannon fodder to arrive here and slay the Eternal Chosen, nor was there anyone stopping the demon warriors from closing in on their Eternal Chosen.
The ancient two-headed dragon inhaled deeply once more. This time, Ji Ma saw the gleaming lance tip in its mouth.
The strong individuals surrounding the Eternal Chosen, including George, instinctively dispersed together.
In an instant, only the Eternal Chosen was left standing alone, facing the two-headed dragon’s attack.
The Eternal Chosen looked up, confronting the two-headed dragon. The two-headed dragon was two hundred meters away, but its massive form seemed ready to crush the Eternal Chosen at any moment.
“Coward.”
This wasn’t just directed at the two-headed dragon above but also at the hesitating demon warriors.
He shouted at the demon warriors not far away, “Advance!”
The demon warriors promptly stepped forward.
As the flames spread from the dragon’s mouth, the two-headed dragon began to unleash its breath onto the Eternal Chosen on the ground.
The Eternal Chosen raised his sword again, until it obscured half the sky against the two-headed dragon.
In the next moment, the two-headed dragon vanished, appearing on the ground, right within the range of the Eternal Chosen Marus’ sword.
