Chapter 197 Chapter 192 Scary
The last stop is the balcony.
The balcony is fitted with stainless steel anti-theft netting resembling an iron cage. Outside, the sky has darkened, and the fitness instructor is cheerfully setting up a ladder to install the surveillance camera.
Fang Shijun is standing on the ladder, looking ahead. With no ghosts causing trouble so far, her inner fear has lessened considerably.
“Baby, why are you installing a camera?” came the voice of the fitness instructor from above.
“To capture the ghost,” Fang Shijun replied. “I called the police, but they didn’t believe me and treated me like a child to be sent away.”
After saying this, she frowned slightly. The fitness instructor has gotten too familiar, now even calling her baby. Wan Ziqi had spent so much time and money trying to call her that back in the day, but now she had no choice.
The fitness instructor asked, “Shijun, what did you just say?”
“I said, the police don’t believe me.”
“Oh? Is that so?”
“I said, weren’t you just asking me why I was installing the camera?”
“I wasn’t talking at all just now, okay?”
“Did you not ask me why I was installing the camera?”
“No,” the fitness instructor said. “Didn’t I already ask you when I went to buy the camera?”
Fang Shijun’s unease instantly magnified, and goosebumps rose on her skin.
The night outside the anti-theft window grew darker, the lights becoming hazy, as if the night wanted to drown out the light.
“Do you feel like it’s getting darker and darker?”
“Maybe the voltage isn’t enough.”
“No, it’s the ghost, it’s coming.” Fang Shijun spoke somewhat incoherently. “Just now, it was trying to bait me.”
“Is that so?”
Wan Ziqi’s voice suddenly appeared, and when Fang Shijun looked up, she saw a familiar figure standing on the ladder. Wan Ziqi turned back, revealing a bloodied face and a collapsed nose.
“Ahhhhh!”
Fang Shijun was so scared that she immediately fled, not caring where the fitness instructor had gone. She dashed into the study and felt a strong grip on her arm.
“Shijun, what’s wrong?”
Fang Shijun shrank her head in fear, reaching out to clutch the fitness instructor’s face, shouting, “Let go of me, let go of me!”
“Shijun! It’s me!”
The grip was strong and would not let go.
Fang Shijun became anxious, kicking and screaming in panic.
The fitness instructor still refused to release her, letting her kick and scream.
After a while, Fang Shijun finally confirmed that the one holding her wasn’t a ghost but the fitness instructor.
The fitness instructor, who could be described as handsome, had several bright red scratch marks on his face, his expression filled with anger.
Fang Shijun immediately made a pitiful sound, “I’m sorry, so scary, just now it pretended to be you and was talking to me.”
Saying this, Fang Shijun’s eyes turned red, and tears streamed down her face:
“Do you think I just have mental issues? Don’t believe me?”
The anger on the fitness instructor’s face disappeared immediately. He released Fang Shijun’s hand and said, “I believe you. I held onto your hand tightly because I was afraid you would get lost alone.”
“Thank you.”
Fang Shijun looked at the fitness instructor, deeply afraid that he was still Wan Ziqi in disguise, and couldn’t help but step back.
They went back to the bedroom together. It was late, but not yet bedtime. They played on their phones, even going to the bathroom together.
The fitness instructor had set up a makeshift tent and had not taken it down.
The fitness instructor fantasized, “Do you want to take a shower?”
“No,” Fang Shijun said. “It’s too dangerous to shower alone.”
The fitness instructor couldn’t help but feel a bit regretful.
“Also,” Fang Shijun thought of something, “did the camera capture anything when the ghost appeared on the balcony just now?”
“Not yet, I hadn’t powered it on.”
How useless.
Fang Shijun sighed, “Thank you for taking the risk to accompany me.”
The fitness instructor waved his hand, saying, “It’s nothing.”
At bedtime, Fang Shijun slept on the bed while the fitness instructor slept on the floor. The room’s fluorescent light was on, casting a dim glow, but Fang Shijun refused to turn it off.
The air conditioning was set to 18 degrees, making it a bit cold on a hot summer day. But she liked it this way, not wanting to sleep on a hard, cold mat; she preferred the soft comforter.
Fang Shijun covered herself with a thin blanket, wrapping herself tightly.
That day had indeed been quite scary.
Her tired nerves began to soften, slowly closing her eyes.
With the fluorescent light on, she covered her head with the thin blanket.
The blanket acted like a firm wall, blocking out the dangers from outside. This habit, formed in her childhood, provided her with a precious sense of security today.
She felt groggy, gradually sinking into a dream.
A strange sensation arose in her chest and abdomen, like a cat or some other animal crawling out from under the blanket.
This feeling became clearer, as an unknown entity crept up from below, brushing against the blanket, making rustling sounds, drawing nearer. It emitted a cold breath from her abdomen to her chest, blowing on her neck.
Fang Shijun shivered all over, realizing something was wrong. She wanted to open her eyes, but her body felt heavy and lethargic, making it impossible to obey her command.
Her eyelids felt incredibly heavy. She strained to lift them, raising them slightly but then they fell back down.
The unknown entity drew closer, and she could feel it—a second person inside her private and secure blanket, right in front of her, its cold fingers resting on her neck.
With a jolt, Fang Shijun finally managed to open her eyelids.
Before her stood Wan Ziqi, covered in blood, with a collapsed nose and crooked black glasses. His lips were purple, and his face was coated with a layer of white frost as he said:
“Baby, it’s so lonely lying in the morgue; come be with me.”
After saying that, he leaned closer to Fang Shijun.
“Ahhhhh!!!”
Fang Shijun screamed like a rooster, jumping out of bed and shouting, “Ghost! There’s a ghost!”
Despite her panic, she remained rational enough not to flee the bedroom.
The fitness instructor was lying on the floor, asleep.
Fang Shijun, in a panic, lifted her foot and kicked fiercely at the fitness instructor’s side, shouting, “Wake up, wake up! The ghost, the ghost is coming!”
The fitness instructor, jolted awake as if kicked like a dog, stood up quickly, asking, “Where? Where’s the ghost?”
Fang Shijun hid behind him, gripping his arm tightly, leaving red marks, while pointing at the bed, saying:
“There! On the bed!”
On the soft bed, there was only a thin blanket, nothing else.
The fitness instructor raised his hand, saying, “Let go of my hand.”
Fang Shijun didn’t let go, still gripping his arm tightly.
The fitness instructor said, “Let go!”
Only then did Fang Shijun release her grip, voice trembling, saying, “Why are you being so fierce? I’m the one who’s scared, not you.”
“I am a little angry—”
“What are you angry about? You said you’d protect me, but you’re just sleeping deeply while the ghost climbed into my blanket.”
The fitness instructor suppressed his anger and reassured her several times before Fang Shijun finally calmed down somewhat.
“Shijun, let’s check the footage.”
Fang Shijun coldly replied, “Okay.”
After calming her down, the fitness instructor noticed a sharp pain under his ribs. He lifted his fitted tank top to see several purple bruises forming underneath.
When Fang Shijun had kicked him, she evidently hadn’t held back at all.
The fitness instructor felt annoyed but still pulled down his tank top to cover his ribs.
Fang Shijun picked up her phone and began to check the surveillance camera footage.
She rewound a few minutes, back to when she was lying in bed.
The fitness instructor squatted beside her, watching together.
Once she regained her composure, Fang Shijun realized that her actions had upset the fitness instructor. She said, “Wait, you’ll see. The ghost climbed into my blanket, and when I opened my eyes, I saw its face.”
On the phone’s screen, Fang Shijun was tightly wrapped in her blanket. Suddenly, she jerked the blanket off, screaming, looking extremely disheveled, as if mad, jumping down and kicking fiercely at the fitness instructor lying on the floor.
Watching this, the fitness instructor only felt pain under his ribs.
The surveillance camera captured everything clearly, with not a single trace of a ghost to be seen. Instead, it made the fitness instructor look like a dog.
The fitness instructor couldn’t help but feel a bit irritated and said, “You were originally sleeping so well.”
“Really,” Fang Shijun said with a hint of despair, “He really climbed into my blanket; I just didn’t know how to tell you.”
“Alright, alright.” The fitness instructor said, somewhat impatient. “I’ll keep watch; next time, be gentler, okay?”
At that moment, Fang Shijun’s phone rang. The contact was “Lin Feng.”
He was calling her.
Fang Shijun initially wanted to answer the call alone but fearing being alone, she whispered to the fitness instructor, “That’s my boss, don’t make a sound.”
“Okay.”
When she answered the call, Lin Feng’s familiar voice came through:
“Where are you? Come drink with me.”
“Lin, I’m at home, today’s not convenient.”
“Don’t you want to make it up to me?” Lin Feng said, “I was taking a shower when you suddenly left. Forget that card and take it yourself; we’ll never contact each other again.”
“Can you wait a moment? It’s really not convenient today.”
“Then that’s that.”
“Wait.” Fang Shijun couldn’t help but exclaim, “I’m coming right now, I’m coming… But Lin, do you believe in ghosts?”
“I do.”
“Then I’ll explain it to you in detail later.” Fang Shijun hung up and looked apologetically at the fitness instructor.
She had already planned to console the fitness instructor, intending for him to stay at her home as a reward.
Lin Feng is wealthy and well-connected; he would surely be able to help her resolve the issue with Wan Ziqi’s ghost.
The fitness instructor was looking at his phone in silence. Fang Shijun glanced over and saw two naked people, frowning. How could this fitness instructor dare to watch such videos in front of her?
She tapped on the fitness instructor’s shoulder and coughed a few times, saying, “Sorry, my boss told me to work overtime, how about you stay here tonight?”
The fitness instructor, however, didn’t turn off the video but instead turned to look at her.
On the phone screen, the woman was none other than Fang Shijun herself, barking like a dog: “… Boss! Boss, you make me so excited… Wuwu, Lin, I really like you.”
The phone was on loudspeaker, and the entire room echoed with her voice.
Fang Shijun trembled. This was the video Lin Feng had recorded that night; how did it end up on the fitness instructor’s phone?
“How did you see that?”
The fitness instructor said nothing but looked at her with a dark expression and asked, “What the hell? Just go be your boss’s little dog, huh!”
With that, he stood up and was about to leave.
Fang Shijun quickly grabbed his arm, saying, “This must be some ghostly trick; please don’t go!”
“Let go!!”
Fang Shijun clung tightly to the fitness instructor’s arm, digging in to the point of drawing blood.
The fitness instructor, furious, slapped her face hard, and only then did Fang Shijun release her grip.
The fitness instructor’s figure disappeared into the dark living room, and soon after, the sound of the door slamming shut echoed.
Fang Shijun picked up her phone, snapping a picture of her swollen face. The lights flickered in the room, but she didn’t pay much attention. She grabbed her phone and ran straight to the door, but the anti-theft door wouldn’t open no matter what.
At the flickering doorway stood Wan Ziqi, with a frozen blue face, moving stiffly, approaching her step by step like someone who had just emerged from the morgue.
Fang Shijun turned to mush with fear, yelling, “Don’t come any closer! Don’t come closer!”
Each time the light flickered, Wan Ziqi drew nearer to her.
“What do you want? Spare me.” Fang Shijun thought of something: “Money! I’ll pay you back all the money!”
With that, the anti-theft door suddenly swung open, and Fang Shijun stumbled out, scrambling to her feet and slamming the door behind her as she fled down the stairs.
Ji Ma yawned at the trembling door, saying, “Scaring people is really troublesome; wouldn’t it be easier to just cut to the chase?”
Finally, it took long enough for her to think about returning the money, but it was no easy feat.
Who knows why the master of deceit chose her as a divine selection? Clearly, she had always been a blood god’s selection before.
