Chapter 296: You Only Have One Sentence
Lance let out a cold hmph and continued his search with his men.
Luo Xiu stood in place, quietly watching their retreating backs.
When they had walked a little further away, Anna, who had been tense beside him, suddenly pressed her hand to her chest and let out a long sigh of relief.
Luo Xiu turned to look at her, only to see a grand display.
He chuckled, “Anna, were you scared?”
Anna lowered her head slightly and replied softly, “Thank you for your concern, Master. I’m fine.”
After speaking, she cast a subtle glance at the room opposite them, her eyes filled with worry.
“Lord Luo Xiu, what if they search again?”
Before Lance and his men had arrived, Luo Xiu had arranged the two little ‘witches’ in the first room on the second floor.
This was the room directly opposite Luo Xiu.
The strategy was essentially hiding in plain sight.
His earlier lengthy conversation with Lance was also to divert the man’s attention, making him focus his suspicion on the rooms further inside and ignore the one right before him.
Whether this tactic would work was uncertain, but it was the only way he could think of.
Luo Xiu frowned, “He won’t have the chance to go in.”
Hearing this, Anna placed her hands in front of her chest in a prayerful gesture.
“May the Holy Light protect us…”
Luo Xiu was amused by her. “We’re harboring witches, what good will your prayers to the Holy Light do?”
Anna’s prayer gesture paused. She blinked her eyes.
“Lord Luo Xiu, that does seem to be the case…”
Luo Xiu sighed and turned his gaze back to the blue sky outside.
He suddenly asked, “Anna, aren’t you afraid?”
“They say witches are a scourge, the source of all chaos. Now that I am a priest, I am harboring witches. You should report me to Livia Church.”
A gentle breeze lightly ruffled Anna’s slightly curly long hair.
“I am Master Luo Xiu’s maid. Whatever you wish to do, I will be by your side.”
She responded softly.
…
…
Life rarely goes as planned; at least eight out of ten times it does not.
Perhaps the Holy Light had heard Anna’s wicked prayer and was enraged.
After searching fruitlessly, Lance’s gaze finally fell upon the last room.
It was the room he had initially overlooked.
The fact that Luo Xiu had taken witches from Livia Church was an open secret and undeniably true.
Lance had deliberately claimed to have only heard rumors this time to avoid directly escalating the conflict.
However, Luo Xiu’s repeated concealment undoubtedly hid something.
Could it be true that, as he claimed at the church, he intended to bring the witches back to his manor to judge them personally?
Lance scoffed at this reason.
Judge them? I bet you have some peculiar fetish yourself!
Your wicked intentions are as clear as day.
However, Lance wasn’t particularly surprised.
As a member of the Empire’s Royal Family, he had long grown accustomed to such matters.
Compared to the ugly and foul schemes played out in noble circles, Luo Xiu’s ‘hobbies’ were not even worth mentioning.
Lance was merely taken aback by Luo Xiu’s peculiar taste.
With Luo Xiu’s status, what kind of woman couldn’t he have? Why would he risk so much for two ‘witches’ with such plain figures?
The chaotic and muffled footsteps soon returned.
They finally stopped in front of the door of the first room in the corridor.
Lance turned his head to look at the man by the corridor, a hint of smugness in his eyes.
A smile of confident victory spread across his lips.
“Ah, Lord Luo Xiu, I can already feel that ominous aura emanating from within. Do you know?”
He deliberately paced back and forth in front of the door, his smile stretching almost to his ears.
Seeing Luo Xiu remain silent, Lance’s smile grew even more audacious.
He licked his lips. “I believe Lord Luo Xiu must be unaware of this, right? Otherwise, why would you let them be?”
“But it’s alright, I’m willing to share Lord Luo Xiu’s burden.”
“Hahaha, I can’t wait to see the helplessness and fear on their faces.”
Lance completely let himself go, his arrogant laughter seeping through the walls and into the room.
Inside the room, Eileen and Selena heard the commotion outside, their hearts tightening.
As they feared…
They had been found after all?
Despair welled up in their hearts.
It was just like the first time they were captured by a demon hunter squad.
In this world, would anyone ever be willing to help them?
Eileen had no answer in her heart.
Outside the door at this moment, Lance’s hand was just about to touch the doorknob.
His eyebrows shot up, his expression one of pure excitement.
He continued to mutter, “Tsk, Lord Luo Xiu, I must say, you are hardly a qualified priest…”
But the next moment, Lance’s voice abruptly cut off.
A sharp bolt of electricity flashed across the door.
Lance cried out in pain and let out a muffled groan.
He quickly stumbled back two steps, clutching his trembling hand, and glared furiously at the man who had remained calm behind him.
“Luo Xiu! What do you think you’re doing?!”
Lance’s face contorted, his features squeezed together in a mixture of pain and rage.
He thrust his blackened hand, which still smelled of cooked flesh, in front of Luo Xiu and roared hoarsely.
“Luo Xiu, is this how you treat the Royal Family?”
Lance changed tack, a sinister glint in his eyes.
“Or are you trying to declare war on my Royal Family on behalf of the Holy See?!”
Lance directly flung a pre-prepared, massive accusation at him.
Although he was in excruciating pain, his heart felt a sense of wicked triumph.
“You’re finished, Luo Xiu. Just you wait. I will immediately report this to the Holy See, and Your Eminence the Pope will surely bring down punishment!”
He prattled on, like a yapping stray dog, irritating Luo Xiu.
Luo Xiu raised his eyes slightly. “Have you said enough?”
Lance’s contorted expression faltered, then he burst into a furious, almost maniacal laugh. “Good, good, good. Even now, you’re still pretending…”
As Lance spoke, he suddenly fell silent.
Because an incredibly powerful and violent surge of magical energy erupted from the man before him.
*Swish! Swish! Swish!*
Dense, piercing whistles erupted in rapid succession within the small space.
Luo Xiu stood rooted to the spot, arcane purple lightning arcing around his arm.
The next moment, the lightning shot out like an arrow from a bow, lashing towards Lance.
Luo Xiu’s movements were not fast, he had even deliberately given Lance time to defend himself.
And Lance, of course, had already cast his corresponding defensive spells.
But those light shields were like paper in the face of this surging lightning, easily pierced.
The lightning coiled around Lance’s throat, gripping him tightly.
Luo Xiu slightly raised his arm, and the lightning lifted Lance’s body into the air.
Lance’s face instantly turned crimson. He struggled frantically, but could not break free.
Faced with absolute power, all resistance was in vain.
His face was a picture of agony, and his muffled, hoarse screams echoed down the corridor.
Luo Xiu gazed at Lance, his eyes calm and profound.
“You only have one sentence.”
