Chapter 35: Zhang Asi’s Foolproof Plan
Sunflower Orphanage.
In the small yard, Chen An and Chen Xi sat on the steps, shoulders touching, lazily basking in the sun.
Beside them, Qin Shou was holding a latest model smartphone, playing the most popular touch-screen mobile game.
As he played, he said without looking up, “Brother An, don’t you two find it boring just sitting here doing nothing?”
Chen An narrowed his eyes, “Why would I find it boring? Don’t you think this is quite comfortable?”
Qin Shou mumbled, “A day or two is fine, it does give people an illusion of physical and mental relaxation. But if it goes on for too long, it will definitely get boring.”
“If you ask me to stay here for half a month, I definitely won’t be able to stand it.”
This remark sparked an idea in Chen An. He moved his arm and gently poked the girl’s soft waist.
“Little Xi, what do you think?”
The girl lightly bumped his forehead. She really liked this kind of physical contact with Chen An; it made her feel very secure.
“I don’t think much about it.”
She replied.
“Not boring?”
Chen Xi shook her head. In front of Chen An, she never lied.
Then Chen An smiled at Qin Shou, “See, neither of us finds it boring, so the problem must be yours.”
Qin Shou seemed to have reached a critical moment in a team battle. His finger movements on the screen became more vigorous, and his whole body tilted with the phone.
It was as if he was playing a motion-sensing game, not a competitive one.
He grunted upon hearing Chen An’s words, “Forget it, only you weirdos can tolerate this.”
Chen An didn’t retort and continued, “How many days are you planning to stay this time?”
“Until the weekend is over, since I’m already here.”
Qin Shou waved his hand dismissively, “But my parents seem to have some objections; they don’t want me to stay this long and want me to go back as soon as possible.”
At this point, Qin Shou’s finger paused on the screen. He couldn’t help but start boasting again.
He casually mentioned, “They always want to take me to those celebrity parties and such. I don’t even know what the point of it is; it’s just a bunch of people putting on airs.”
“It’s better to just stay home and play games by myself, don’t you agree?”
Although he said this, his tone was still filled with a bit of smugness.
It was like the world’s richest man saying his most disliked thing in this life was money.
To be honest, with Qin Shou’s personality, among his peers, the only ones he could get along with happily, besides his well-connected friends of similar backgrounds, was probably Chen An.
This was because Chen An didn’t care and didn’t have a sensitive and competitive young man’s heart.
He glanced aside, his hand stroking the girl’s soft hair beside him, then picked up a strand and started braiding it.
This was something the two of them often did when they were children.
The director was only one person, and the orphanage was in a remote location, so there were very few volunteers to help.
The director’s energy was limited, and she couldn’t take care of every child in the orphanage in such detail.
Especially for special children like Chen Xi, the time and effort required were often several times more than for other children.
It was only now that she had grown up and could live independently.
When she was little, if she was separated from Chen An for even a second, tears would start streaming down uncontrollably.
She wouldn’t cry out loud or make a fuss, just curl up by herself, letting tears flow like a spring, wetting her entire face.
If no one noticed, the girl could sit in place and cry for an entire afternoon.
Chen An tied one braid and then reached out to tie another. Chen Xi’s hair had a smooth, silky texture that made him reluctant to let go.
He casually asked, “If you’re not going back today, how will you explain it to your parents?”
Qin Shou looked up and said with a cheeky grin, “Isn’t that what you’re here for?”
“What does that have to do with me?”
Chen An was confused. He noticed the girl’s body move slightly, clearly interested in Qin Shou’s words.
Qin Shou hadn’t finished his game yet. He habitually criticized his teammates for a few words before explaining, “Don’t you remember? The child they wanted to adopt back then was you.”
Qin Shou said this, and although many years had passed and his parents had never mistreated him, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of loneliness in his heart.
“As soon as I said you were also at the orphanage, they immediately agreed to let me stay another day before returning. They also said that if they didn’t have prior engagements, they would have come to see you too.”
Qin Shou’s tone carried a strong sense of bitter jealousy.
Chen An was stunned for a moment, then smiled, “Your parents are very lovely people. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have mentioned your name back then.”
Qin Shou’s current life was largely due to Chen An.
If Chen An hadn’t inadvertently mentioned Qin Shou’s name when he refused their adoption back then, this ‘Young Master Qin,’ who only knew how to eat and drink all day, probably wouldn’t exist.
Upon hearing this, Qin Shou pursed his lips, lowered his head, and stopped talking, focusing intently on his game.
Chen An continued to braid Chen Xi’s hair.
The afternoons at the small town orphanage were always so leisurely.
Suddenly, Qin Shou’s angry voice broke the brief silence.
He slammed his phone screen fiercely, muttering to himself.
“Damn, this guy is so cheap! Classic solo kill and then blaming the jungler.”
“I just touched the red buff for the first time, damn it!”
For the next few minutes, it was all his one-man commentary.
Such as, “Are you walking to rack up steps in the canyon? I’ll scatter some rice on my phone, and even Brother Chicken’s movement is better than yours.”
Then he entered a passionate argument with his teammates, spitting saliva so high that his entire face turned red.
Chen Xi was a bit unbearable and silently shifted her position, leaning a bit closer to Chen An.
She whispered in Chen An’s ear, “He’s so noisy…”
Chen An chuckled, “He’s just defending his parents. What’s wrong with him?”
…
…
At the same time, in a corner outside the orphanage wall.
A cruel smile played on Zhang Asi’s lips.
He hid in the shadows under the wall. Occasionally, pedestrians passed by, but they didn’t feel that anyone was standing under the wall at all.
Zhang Asi thought for a moment and took a step forward.
The warm sun shone on him, but instead of bringing warmth, it made him frown immediately.
He disliked places with light.
Only dark and damp corners could give him some solace.
Of course, it would be even better if he could add people’s terrified expressions and screams as seasoning.
Zhang Asi quietly walked to the orphanage doorway. He narrowed his eyes and peered inside.
After confirming that everyone inside was just an ordinary mortal, he felt more confident.
I, Zhang Asi, always plan before I act; it’s absolutely foolproof!
The man clenched his fist, licked his lips, and a scarlet light flashed in his eyes.
He turned around and gazed towards the end of the road.
Come quickly.
Zhang Asi thought to himself.
Aren’t you all trying to capture me? Don’t you want the Earth Evasion Technique?
Come quickly.
Without you, the main course, how can I, Zhang Asi, have my meal?
