Chapter 525: The Will to Protect
“Ig… how, how is it you again…”
Looking at the brilliant golden hair, limply sticking to the pure white jade skin, and the golden pupils of the girl as she tremblingly opened her eyes, as if afraid of shattering this fragile porcelain, Ig carefully held her, standing up little by little from the ground.
Ig’s lowered gaze fell on the girl’s serene, moonlit face: “I’m sorry, Young Lady. I’m late.”
“Hmph, you idiot… you know, this young lady didn’t mean it that way… you know, the way this young lady treated you, and how good I was to you, was just to use you…”
“You idiot, why did you come back? Wouldn’t it be better to stay by that princess’s side?”
Feeling the girl’s slender hand pushing, trying to break free, Ig tightened his embrace:
“Young Lady, I’ve thought a lot these past few days about what my feelings for you are: is it simply longing for your appearance and your status, or is it just dependence on you? But what really matters is that I cannot leave you, and I don’t want to leave you.”
Ig showed her a smile: “My life has long belonged to you, you… you are my Young Lady.”
Entrusting his life into her hands, rejoicing or grieving at her actions… is this love for her?
As if her face lightly smiled. Verafia raised that golden gaze:
“As expected, you’re an idiot. This young lady has never seen anyone willing to be a servant… I forced you back then… Besides, I already told you, you don’t owe this young lady anymore. You should have forgotten about me…”
“Forgetting you… I was once afraid. However, not long after, I found that it was just a fool’s self-torment. How could I possibly forget you?”
Ig said earnestly. He suddenly looked at the slender girl in his arms: “Moreover, Young Lady, as long as I am by your side, I will always owe you.”
“Teehee.” Seemingly the girl’s clear laughter.
Verafia, however, seemed completely exhausted, her head leaning into his embrace, her flowing golden hair sliding down the young man’s chest.
The girl slightly raised her small face, as if a nightingale’s whispers played softly.
“What an idiot… But, this young lady won’t be fooled by you so easily like that naive princess…”
Gently holding the girl’s clenched jade fingertips, Ig’s face showed a silent smile.
The girl leaned in his embrace, her slightly raised face caught in the falling light of the sky, her golden pupils seeming hazy: “But, this… is this your choice, Ig, your choice for this young lady… But, you should know the consequences…”
“Young Lady, for you, there is never any choice.”
Ig said. Of course, he knew what actions like his would bring upon him.
Around them, countless knights of the royal palace watched in shock as he held the slender girl in the falling light, but, seemingly intimidated by his status and reputation, they didn’t immediately draw their swords and charge.
“Lord Ig, do you know what you are doing?”
Knight Commander Rodrigo’s deep voice came from his helmet, filled with anger: “The girl in your arms wants to destroy this city, to burn this land!”
In Ig’s embrace, Verafia merely blinked her long eyelashes, witnessing the immense hostility shown to her by everyone.
Ig held the girl tighter, smiled gently at her, and then placed one hand on the immaculate Sacred Sword that had fallen from the sky and was embedded in the ground.
Ig raised his eyes and looked at the crowd:
“Lord Rodrigo, I don’t care what misunderstandings you have about her… However, Young Lady, she is my everything.”
Even if the entire world stood against her… then, what he had to do was to bear that hostility for her!
The pure white sword edge was suddenly drawn from his hand, and in an instant, pure light erupted like the brilliance of the sun, and like a tide of light, it washed over the lightless night sky again!
All the people in Lichen, reflected in the light, saw the young man standing with a sword in one hand amidst the tide of the storm, holding the delicate girl, falling into a state of shock and disbelief.
In the night, a slender frost-blue figure shuttling rapidly paused slightly, with crystalline dragon horns reflecting a few faint lights.
A hint of surprise appeared in the girl’s frost-blue eyes: “It’s Verafia and Ig! Where are they!”
Ophi inhaled slightly, and ignoring the humans around her, she rushed towards the center of that light.
…
Ig pulled up the upgraded sword with his right hand, and around him, a storm of light swept, the dense light almost obscuring his vision.
Suddenly, a clear laugh came from the gaps in the light:
“You’ve truly picked up the Sacred Sword. However, I didn’t expect it to be in this manner… but it’s not entirely wrong.”
Emerging from the light was a figure with a rustling robe, radiant and majestic, none other than Lancaster!
“Your Majesty the King!”
The voices of the royal palace knights and mage corps were filled with surprise.
This was their King, the invincible, the strongest in the world, and even, just now, His Majesty the King, with his own power, had almost killed a deity!
“Lancaster…”
Ig muttered, his gaze sinking, his palm involuntarily gripping the sword hilt.
From the beginning, he had known that the biggest obstacle to taking the girl in his arms away was the Lancaster in front of him!
Lancaster walked down step by step, a smile on his face:
“However, Ig, have I ever treated you unfairly? Not only did I promise you my most beloved daughter, but I even promised to pass this throne to you, yet… you still stand before me.”
Lancaster looked at the young man standing opposite him: “Ig, is this action not considered?”
“Yes… you consider me your heir. The title of hero, the爵位 of noble… everything I have now was bestowed upon me by you.”
His palm exerting force on the sword hilt, Ig pursed his lips tightly:
“However, it is precisely because of this that I gradually became lost, almost becoming your puppet, and even missed opportunities—and back then, when I served by your side, from the very beginning, I only wanted to protect Veer, to have the qualification to stand by her side!”
The young man’s laughter was almost desolate.
Verafia’s delicate eyelashes trembled slightly, she raised her gaze slightly, and what she saw was Ig’s forcefully raised, hardened face.
His palm gripped the sword hilt tightly, his gaze becoming firm: “However, Lancaster, now, you are her enemy!”
“Are you giving up the clear path I bestowed upon you just for a woman?”
Lancaster sneered: “Moreover, without my bestowal, what qualification do you have to be my enemy, what qualification do you have to protect her—just by the Sacred Sword in your hand?”
At the same moment, almost bathed in light, Ig’s pure white Sacred Sword, raised with one arm, pointed directly at Lancaster’s face and neck.
Scorching light surged like a tide.
Lancaster just watched him, a hint of mockery on his cheek. Opposite him, Ig’s arm trembled continuously, yet he was unable to swing his sword!
