Chapter 54 Happy Times
Count Sirius, and Azer… the handsome red-haired young man, and the cute Count?
Igert was surprised by his own thought and quickly shook his head.
This won’t do.
To be suspicious for no reason like this is very rude, not to mention how generous and friendly Count Sirius has been to them…
Besides, even if Sirius were in love with the handsome young man, it would be the young man’s personal matter, his own choice, and someone like him had no right to judge.
“Moreover, all of this is just my own wild guess… maybe this young master simply fell in love with a common girl from a humble background, as ordinary nobles do, or maybe he just yearns for the freedom of myself and the Young Lady…”
Wait.
His thoughts paused for a moment. Igert suddenly recalled how he had noticed Verafia, the delicate curve of her lips, and the irrepressible smile in her beautiful golden eyes at the time.
“So, this girl is thinking about such things?”
Igert couldn’t help but laugh, reaching out to pat his Young Lady’s head. The girl tilted her small face slightly in confusion, only to see a faint smile on the young man’s lips.
Although Verafia was confused, she also realized that this guy was teasing her. Her small face flushed with shame and anger, and she glared with her big eyes, her slender jade-like hands flailing.
Igert pretended not to see, a smile on his lips, gently stroking the girl’s soft hair, letting her act spoiled.
This Young Lady, who he so admired as Lord Rothel, how could she be so childish now that she was a girl, with such messy thoughts in her little head?
Igert thought with amusement.
Across from them, Count Sirius gazed at the girl, her face flushed, playfully wrestling with the young man. A gentle smile emerged on his face, bathed in the soft golden sunlight, revealing seven parts nostalgia and three parts envy.
Sensing his gaze, Igert gently pressed the girl’s jade-white wrist into his embrace, then looked back at the young Count and said, “Count, you jest. In fact, being with Veer is my good fortune.”
“I’m sure it must have been a touching and sweet story.”
The Count gently shook his head and smiled, “But please don’t speak of it, or I will become jealous.”
Igert could tell that Sirius was just making a small joke.
But, a sweet and touching story…
Since Lichen’s escape, perhaps, always shrouded in the shadow of death, he felt more than love and pity for the girl – a kind of forced smile and suppression.
He did not want to see the girl’s distress and low moods.
Not until they arrived on the Aer Continent did the girl finally show her long-lost smile…
Sweet, delightful feelings, like the spring breeze of youth.
Igert’s eyes narrowed slightly, and in his hand, he gently held the girl’s delicate small hand, not wanting to let go as if she were a precious treasure… If only they could be like this together for a long time…
A smile flickered across his face, and Igert gently touched the girl’s pure white, exquisite earlobe, causing her to let out a soft sigh and look up at Count Sirius, “You flatter me.”
Count Sirius shook his head.
“Actually, Mr. Igert, in your homeland, you are also a noble young master who will inherit vast territories, aren’t you? Yet you can abandon all that for Miss Verafia…”
Igert wanted to say that if it weren’t for the feud with Lancaster, and if this Young Lady hadn’t caused trouble by personally assassinating the King, forcing him to flee with her, he might have inherited his father’s Marquis title in a few more years.
However, even without the enmity with Lancaster, Verafia, his Young Lady, this cute and lively girl, would she truly be willing to be bound like a golden bird in a cage in the castle as a Marchioness?
Igert gently shook his head. In the end, the outcome would not have been different.
A mere Marquis title… could it compare to his girl?
As if sensing something from the gentle smile on the young man’s face, Verafia’s delicate face flushed. Tears of shyness welled up in her golden eyes, and she gently squeezed his waist with her small hand, muttering softly:
“You guy… are you deliberately trying to tease me again…”
Count Sirius seemed to be infected, smiling slightly as he watched the young man and girl. He knew that no matter how much glory and wealth he offered the young man, he would refuse without hesitation because of Verafia.
“Mr. Igert, I will convey your words to the Bishop,” the Count said to them.
—
In the Count’s castle, the court maids prepared dinner. Count Sirius spoke with ease and profound insight, possessing aristocratic demeanor.
However, while lightly holding the silver dinner knife, Verafia always felt that Count Sirius’s clear, pale gold eyes did not seem to reflect the smile on his cheeks, but rather a sense of loss.
Loss…?
Verafia tilted her small head slightly, and then her thoughts turned to the subtle but hard-to-hide oddities she’d noticed in the young man when he first saw this cute little Count.
After dinner, before bidding farewell, Count Sirius smiled and said to them, “Mr. Igert, and the two beautiful young ladies, Irene and the maids have prepared accommodations for you. Wishing you peace.”
Igert thanked the young man and, with the two girls, was led by the maids to their quarters.
Verafia followed Miss Maid into her room. Under the soft crystal lamp, a red velvet carpet covered the floor, and a magic device embedded with flame crystals released heat, melting the severe cold outside the window.
Additionally, the room’s pure white bed was soft and comfortable, the luxurious velvet comforter adorned with golden rose-like lines, the exquisite furniture decorated with delicate openwork carvings, and golden silk and gilded hangings… all appearing exceptionally splendid and luxurious, like a princess’s room in a royal court.
“Well, it’s like a noble lady’s room. Was it prepared especially for visiting noble ladies?”
Tilting her head slightly, Verafia blinked her golden eyes and muttered softly to herself before suddenly spotting the maid who was preparing to leave. She called out softly:
“Sister Maid, wait a moment. Um, can I ask a question?”
“Please speak, Miss Verafia.”
The maid stopped, gently adjusted the hem of her clean white apron, bowed slightly to the girl, and said.
“Ha, actually, it’s just out of my curiosity…”
Verafia blinked her golden eyes slightly, smiling sweetly, her delicate face showing a look of novelty, “It’s just at dinner just now, I always felt that the little Count seemed absent-minded, as if he were thinking of someone else… Is it some noble family’s young lady?”
