Chapter 675: Proving Suspicion
The knight who arrived beside the young girl, his breastplate engraved with the family crest of Count Robert, was obviously one of the knights brought by Count Robert to guard the church.
The knight was looking down at the stuttering young lady, who seemed to be frightened, and said, “Bishop Lord, do you wish to see Count Lord?”
His gaze softened slightly, and he did not doubt the nun’s words. After all, if it were not for the bishop’s request, how could this little nun have found her way here and known that the count was inside?
Moreover, even he could not break through the magical barrier on the room.
As for why she was so scared… In the knight’s eyes, the young lady nun before him did not look like someone who had grown up in a convent since childhood; her beautiful cheeks, on the contrary, resembled those of a young lady from a wealthy family.
He guessed that it was likely that the girl’s father had recently entrusted her to the bishop to come to the church as a nun, as it was much safer… It was a common occurrence for these pampered noble young ladies to be frightened when meeting fierce knights.
Although the knight was quite disdainful of the demeanor of these vulgar nobles, he had not reached the point of venting his anger on such a young girl.
As if hearing the conversation outside the room, Count Hyde and Robert’s conversation also stopped. A moment later, the room door was pushed open.
“Young Lady, did Bishop Lord have something to see me about?”
The young man who appeared before them was Robert, whom Verafia had mentioned.
Count Robert waved his hand, dismissing the bowing knight. Verafia saw a flicker of hesitation in the young man’s eyes when he saw her lowered face.
But it didn’t seem like he recognized her identity…
Verafia blinked her eyes subtly, a thought surfacing in her mind. She lowered her head, her delicate body trembling slightly with fear, still pretending to be a timid young girl.
“Um, yes… Count Lord, can you, can you take me to see Bishop Lord?”
The young count still hesitated a little.
“Robert, since the bishop needs to see you, perhaps it is something important. You don’t need to mind me.”
A burst of laughter came. From inside the room, Count Hyde’s voice echoed. He waved his hand, his eyes half-closed, a smile flickering across his handsome face.
Count Robert nodded and said to Verafia, who was still bowing her head, “Alright. Young Lady, please lead the way for me.”
…
The lights flickered behind them. Following Count Robert, priests cast surprised glances along the way, but no one came forward to stop them.
Verafia slightly raised her gaze. She knew that Igert was stalking behind her, and he would act the moment anything unexpected happened.
The young girl’s gaze shifted to the young count beside her. She had to admit that although they had not been in contact for long, her impression of this Count Lord was not bad.
Verafia was certainly not falling for him under Igert’s watchful eye.
She glanced at his golden eyes and her lips curved slightly, as if to show off to the young man behind her. However, Verafia quickly looked away.
Verafia was not unfamiliar with Count Robert these past few days.
Judging by his actions and Shiel’s attitude, it seemed that this Count Lord’s stance was not entirely on Trist’s side. Instead, he seemed to have obeyed Trist’s words, believing that Shiel had truly defected to the Frost Calamity, and then led his knights to Vinash City.
However, at first, Verafia was not prepared to believe him. Instead, she planned to use some trickery to lure him into taking her to Azer’s prison.
Trusting someone completely was a risky move. Once, she had paid the price of being burned to death because she had placed her trust in someone, and that person was even her close friend…
Verafia was not so foolish as to fully trust someone she did not yet know.
Of course, seeing Robert talking with Count Hyde, she suddenly changed her mind.
Verafia looked around. The church environment was still filled with dazzling golden light, solemn and sacred, but apart from Igert, there were no other nuns or priests around.
“Well, it’s a good place to confront Count Robert.”
Noticing the young girl beside him suddenly stop, Robert turned his head, “Young Lady, is there something you need?”
“I would like to ask for your help.”
The pure white hood was lifted, revealing not the timid young girl from before. She suppressed her smile, her scorching gold eyes shimmering, and looked at him seriously, “Count Lord, please take me to the church’s prison. I need to find Azer.”
Verafia spoke directly to Count Robert, without any probing or preamble.
“Prison?”
Count Robert paused, completely taken by surprise by the scene of the young girl suddenly saying such a thing. His eyebrows suddenly furrowed, and his gaze became sharp, “But, Young Lady, isn’t it Bishop Lord who wants to see me?”
Such a powerful count, questioning her with a cold smile, would be enough to scare most young girls into silence. However, Verafia curled her lips.
The fact that Count Robert was merely trying to intimidate her and not immediately apprehend her, or even show great shock, proved his stance. Of course, Verafia did not have the time to leisurely probe this Count Lord. She simply and directly raised her face:
“Count Lord, Count Hyde plans to eliminate you.”
The other party’s pupils contracted slightly. This time, a visible astonishment appeared on Robert’s face, “Why do you say that?”
“Because, in the eyes of Lord Hyde, you are not one of them. Of course, he will prepare to eliminate you.”
Verafia answered as a matter of course. However, this was the church, and she still had to maintain some of her nun’s decorum, rather than acting like the spoiled young lady she usually was.
Well, with her usual personality, she would definitely have widened her big eyes and glared impatiently, instead of showing a slight smile and speaking in a gentle tone like she was now.
However, this image of a pure and calm young lady nun felt quite good… Maybe I should try playing a few more roles in the future?
Otherwise, although she was accustomed to her tsundere and willful young lady personality, if it was always like this, would Igert get tired of it… Bah, a young lady doesn’t need to care about that guy’s feelings.
Nonsense thoughts suddenly popped into her head, and Verafia quickly shook her head. Then, she raised her eyes and looked at Count Robert.
On the other side, Count Robert did not reply, but remained silent. Clearly, the young girl’s words had greatly affected him.
But the silence only lasted for a moment.
The count clenched his palm and suddenly said, “Why should I believe you?”
