Chapter 101: Battle of the Heavens
When the squad returned from the inner ring, the recovery forces of Casterly Court naturally learned of the Celestial God’s demise. The massively dissipating curse domains were the best proof. Where there were fiends, there would be curse domains; this was an unquestionable testament to their presence.
Therefore, as the three emerged from the inner ring, everyone surrounded them. The Knights of Burefawa cheered ecstatically:
“My King!”
“Our King utterly crushed that fiend! What an insult!”
“Long live! Long live!”
Even though they were exhausted, Yonglan still held his head high in response to the thunderous cheers. “What’s with that expression? I told you, we would win!”
Doria also walked over with the Alchemical Dolls of Casterly Court and paid their respects to Yonglan and the others with solemn formality. “Respected Godslayer, after this battle, we have reclaimed Thousand, and no one will question you any longer.”
Compared to the incoherently excited people of Burefawa, the Alchemical Dolls were far more rational. Although they were happy about the victory over the gods, the Alchemical Dolls were more focused on the next course of action than on celebrating.
“We will immediately restore the functionality of Thousand and contact the other Knight Kingdoms. With your Achievements as proof, the fragmented resistance should be able to unite.”
“Facing the threat of the fiends, we may have a chance to counterattack…”
Yonglan forced his eyes open and waved his hand. “We’ll talk about it later. I need to rest first.”
Yonglan was helped back to the Sanctuary. Amidst the crowd, he saw Shariel, wearing a hood, nod at him before heading towards the ruins of the inner ring. Remembering that the Mirror-Corroding Duke had not been burned to ashes by the Ember Forge, but had left behind a charred corpse, Yonglan understood the other party’s intention to collect the remains. He did not disturb them and, upon returning to the Sanctuary, bid farewell to his companions, ending his Sams for the day.
Enesyin’s consciousness returned to reality. She vaguely opened her eyes, just about to recall the great battle of slaying the fiend.
“Knock, knock, knock—”
However, before the Platinum-haired Dragon Maiden could debrief, a tremor echoed, the sound of a warship landing on the ground. The ship was noisy. Enesyin curiously walked out and, through the one-way glass, saw dark clouds churning on the horizon. The entire expeditionary fleet had landed and was hiding behind a mountain, with defensive artifices at full power, ready for battle.
The dark, dense, silver-mouse-colored sky seemed about to collapse, and lightning like dragons and snakes churned in the clouds.
“Rumble—”
The terrifying, low thunder accompanied the lightning, making the already dim sky even gloomier. Before Enesyin could ponder further, a hand pulled her away. Aseran’s golden hair tickled her sister’s face as she explained in advance. “I ordered the fleet to travel through the wilderness. Heh, we’re quite lucky to have encountered the Battle of the Heavens.”
“Sister, you don’t mean to say…” Enesyin’s eyes widened as she recalled the legendary tales. However, before she could finish speaking, she was rudely interrupted by a hurricane.
“Whoosh—”
The shrill wind swept across the wilderness, wave after wave, with countless grains of sand and raindrops lashing down. The Earth in the distance heaved with rolling dust waves, filled with smoke and dust.
“Boom!!!!”
A sonic wave ten times, a hundred times more powerful than thunder vibrated the atmosphere. Successive air bursts occurred, the air seeming to turn into water, rippling violently. The strong wind spread endlessly in all directions, scattering the dust and dirt that had risen due to their landing. The dust waves, carrying the gale, swept over all the slopes and hills in their path, the ruins of cities, and even the snow accumulated at the horizon was blown away by half, scattering over a vast distance.
As the storm raged, the dramatic change in the sky was so magnificent that it rendered people speechless. The entire sky seemed to be ignited, with true red embers burning the firmament, occasionally dropping meteoric fire. Undeniable natural disasters. Under such terror, mortals could only tremble and pray for survival.
The sound of the wind tore at their eardrums. After an unknown amount of time, perhaps ten minutes, perhaps half an hour, or even two hours, the storm gradually subsided.
“It’s over. It seems the Primal King has won!” The Dragon Princess shook her golden hair and proudly lifted her head. She turned and saw Enesyin’s confused expression. “My dear sister, it seems you haven’t witnessed the Battle of the Heavens much before.”
Enesyin shook her head. The Dragon Princess smiled, took Enesyin’s hands, and said, “Then this is a rare experience. Come and feel the power descending from the heavens.”
Enesyin and Aseran descended from the warship together and stepped onto the Earth that had been plowed by the storm. The originally muddy ground had solidified and dried after this short storm. Bushes and flowers sprang up from nowhere on the plains, even though this had been a barren land before.
Long-lost sunlight pierced the dense, dark clouds, and countless golden light beams sprinkled down onto the Earth, as if in a creation. A warm sun shone on their foreheads, causing them to lower their eyes. The biting cold air just moments before suddenly became soft and warm, making their bodies tingle. Enesyin couldn’t help but stretch.
A warm breeze carrying residual heat blew towards her. Enesyin clicked her tongue, recalling the widely known legend. It is well known that in ancient times, the Primal King conquered most of the fiends. However, there were still some intractable fiends. After reshaping the world, the Primal King brought this group of fiends beyond the heavens and began an endless struggle, which has continued from ancient times to the present day.
Whenever the fiends gained the upper hand, the night would become longer, and the seasons would turn cold; their curse domains would descend vertically upon the Earth, causing all life to wither. Whenever the Primal King gained the upper hand, the day would be longer, and the seasons would be spring-like, warm and peaceful, with abundant harvests. The frequent extreme weather in the wilderness was merely the aftermath of their battles. Mortals could not even perceive the battles happening outside the heavens, only the manifested natural disasters could be observed.
The people of the Boundless Land called it the “Battle of the Heavens.” This was also why the civilizations of the Boundless Land, despite possessing powerful productivity, could not spread their towns to every inch of land, being forced to delineate one civilized forbidden zone after another. In the past, Enesyin had always stayed within civilized areas. The Unified Empire was a given. Even the Land of Silver, being under the influence of the Frost-Forged Dragon’s curse domain, was not affected by the Battle of the Heavens.
Today was the first time she had witnessed the Battle of the Heavens, and she was utterly shocked. Compared to this, the battle against the Mirror-Corroding Duke in the Echo Realm seemed less epic. However, before she could marvel further, Aseran’s next words made the Platinum-haired Dragon Maiden shiver. “The road ahead is clear. Notify the fleet to set sail. Next, we will drive straight through and reach Chang.”
