Chapter 115: Ain, I Really Need to Control You
Chapter 117: Ain, I Really Need to Control You
In reality, even when Yonglan had previously engaged with the Imperial Expeditionary Force, he hadn’t killed anyone. He had merely ripped them open. With the physique of a Dragonborn, such injuries wouldn’t be fatal.
As for whether that counted as an indirect assist: “Was that me who killed them? Don’t slander me!”
He had no psychological burden when slaughtering monsters in Sams, but in reality… he wasn’t incapable of killing.
It just wouldn’t bring him any sense of exhilaration, but rather a sense of detachment.
How should he describe that feeling? It was like he was broadcasting on CattensTV, but he wasn’t in a restricted zone!
“Is that so?”
Aseran had been rejected by Yonglan numerous times today, but even so, the Dragon Princess showed no signs of anger.
Given her pride, this was truly incredible. Anyone familiar with Aseran’s character would never dare to defy her will.
“The lightning and the rain, all are blessings from the sovereign.”
However, towards Yonglan, the Dragon Princess was as gentle as a kitten. She was exceedingly patient, and hadn’t uttered a single harsh word.
She merely closed her eyes, pressing one hand to her chest, which stretched her shirt taut, revealing skin so fair it was dazzling.
“It seems this is a trial meant only for me. Heh, what a pity.”
Then, Aseran opened her eyes and said softly to Yonglan:
“So, what do you plan to do from now on? Tomorrow, I will dismantle Chang’s Fortress, causing the harmonic node of this Pillar of the Holy to collapse. In the future, it can only be rebuilt as a mere Fortress.”
“Even if you’re not interested in the expedition, you can travel with us. I truly wish for you to stay by our side. I believe Ain thinks so too.”
Never mind, one step at a time.
Yonglan wasn’t worried about this at all.
While Chang’s Fortress was no longer habitable, as long as Sams was still active, home was wherever he went.
However, Yonglan wasn’t entirely alone. Zhenxian and the entire Atoner Faction of Hram had decided to follow him. He did need to find a base on the Boundless Land to settle down. He still needed to help with matters concerning the Hram clan, as it directly related to attribute progression.
Before Yonglan could shrug, Enesyin spoke first.
“Sister!”
The Platinum-haired Dragon Maiden sat up straight, her gaze cold as she looked at the Dragon Princess. “Don’t you remember? From now on, I will no longer obey your arrangements.”
Aseran tilted her head, one hand on her hip. “Ain, of course, you’ve reclaimed your life. So, what do you plan to do?”
The Dragonborn girl quickly wagged her tail behind her. “The Unified Empire’s great Destiny is a mistake. I will prove your mistake with my actions. Therefore… I will no longer continue this expedition. I will leave the Empire and return to the Scorching Frost Silver Tundra, to save my homeland from the Fiends’ claws.”
“Now? You want to defeat the Frost-Forged Dragon?”
Aseran chuckled as if she had heard a joke, slowly shaking her head. “The Frost-Forged Dragon… that Fiend is not an illusion, nor was it heavily injured in its seal. Even if I were to fight and defeat it, I couldn’t say I had complete confidence. It would cost me a considerable price and effort. To reclaim the Land of Silver, such bold claims cannot be made lightly.”
“You may no longer be the child trembling and lost on the snowy night, but you must understand, leaving my protection, the path you wish to tread is not one where mere strong will guarantees peace. Blades, fire, lies, deception, betrayal… If you lack the strength to wield them all, you can only taste bitter fruit.”
Even Yonglan, an outsider, could see that Aseran was reluctant to part with her sister and was trying to dissuade her.
“Why rush? Once the great Destiny is fulfilled and all Fiends are swept away, the Scorching Frost Silver Tundra will naturally be liberated.”
However, her well-intentioned advice was viewed as mere poisoned sweets by the Platinum-haired Dragon Maiden, who had solidified her goals and resolve.
“If I reclaim my homeland with your help, it will be too late, and it won’t prove my correctness at all. Perhaps I am powerless now, but I won’t always be this weak.”
Enesyin had grown accustomed to talking back to her sister in the past two days. She retorted immediately, “Moreover… it’s not just me. Yonglan will help me too.”
Ah, so I’m involved in this as well?
Yonglan met Enesyin’s expectant and pure gaze.
Oh, right, right. There was a clause in their contract regarding mutual assistance.
So, under Aseran’s puzzled gaze, Yonglan patted his chest and said, “That’s right, this matter was my instruction.”
Now it was Aseran’s turn to fall silent.
The Dragon Princess’s gaze flickered between Yonglan and Enesyin, then she paced back and forth in the room. Finally, she took down a silver sword hanging on the wall and handed it to Enesyin.
“This sword is yours from now on.”
“Sister, this is…”
The Platinum-haired Dragon Maiden gasped. The silver sword Aseran produced was the ancestral sacred artifact of the Sword of Blazing Sun lineage, which only the head of the family had the right to wield. It was a blade from the hands of their knightly ancestors.
After Aseran ascended to the throne of the Dragon Princess, the Empire had also returned this hero artifact.
“You are to be the successor of the Sword of Blazing Sun, so you are qualified to wield it and become the last descendant of this Knight Family.”
“As for me, I abandoned the identity of the Sword of Blazing Sun long ago. In every aspect, you are more suited to wield it than I am.”
This was different from anything else. Enesyin could not refuse. She solemnly accepted the ancient family artifact, stained with the blood of countless Fiends and heroes.
“Thank you…”
“I am only trying to make things fairer.”
Aseran smiled. “Let’s have another bet, just like before, with our lives as the stake.”
“You just took it off, and you’re already eager to put it back on me?”
Enesyin sighed, looking at her sister with complex emotions. The meaning behind her words was clear, as if she had “Ain, I really need to control you” written all over her face.
Aseran placed her hand on her sister’s head, gently stroking her smooth hair. “So, can you understand my good intentions? I truly don’t want to be separated from you.”
“I accept this bet.”
Enesyin agreed to another wager after only a moment’s thought. “Let’s see who succeeds first, and then… wins in a duel.”
Under Yonglan’s witness, the two sisters made their bet. Without even having dinner, they left the building together. Enesyin had officially left the Empire’s Royal Guard and become a completely free individual.
Only after both of them had left did Aseran lean against the window, a helpless smile gracing her exquisitely beautiful face.
“Ain, Ain… what great fortune you have received. Although I have never doubted your luck and destiny, I never expected that even he would choose you? Even if it’s just a phantom… it makes me jealous.”
She then extended her hand, clenching emptiness.
“But, good. This is good… because I will not lose, and we will eventually reach the same destination.”
