Chapter 131: My Stats Are Above Yours
Chapter 133: My Stats Are Above Yours
To intimidate the Godslayer, the Undead Overlord brought forth all the Divine Constructs under his command and arranged them in formation on a vast, unobstructed plain. This was a golden opportunity! Yonglan knew he might never get another chance like this. He had to destroy all these troublesome Divine Constructs here and now!
Yonglan channeled his Spirit Matter, firing relentlessly at the Floating Fortress. His assault was a storm, and though each shot lacked the power of his initial, long-charged attack, its sheer speed was enough to suppress the Divine Constructs, forcing them into a purely defensive stance.
As Yonglan continued his barrage on the Floating Fortress, the Knight army also reacted. Luo Jia immediately commanded, “Night Walker Knights… loose the arrows!”
Clad in heavy plate armor, the Night Walker Knights unslung their heavy crossbows and greatbows. They nocked heavy arrows just as Yonglan had, unleashing a volley towards the Undead army across the river. The front lines of the Undead army, already reeling from the shockwaves of Yonglan’s light arrows, were unable to organize any effective defense or counterattack. They were mowed down by the heavy arrows. The powerful Constructs, however, advanced through the arrow storm, only to be blasted by the magic cannons firing from behind, crashing down in defeat.
Jiali, naturally, seized this opportune moment. As soon as Yonglan made his move, the Construct Mage leaped onto the workshop behind her and began smelting the materials she had prepared. In a flash, she forged hundreds of Blood of Decay Floating Cannons, unleashing a bombardment on the enemy’s shore.
Enesyin also joined the fray, planting her silver sword into the ground before conjuring spears of Dragonflame in her hands and hurling them at the enemy. As Yonglan’s companions, they had received equivalent power boosts within Sams. Regardless of their real-world Tier, in this place, they were terrifyingly strong. Though merely Paradigms, their combat effectiveness rivaled that of Heroes. The Artifices they couldn’t grasp before now seemed to come naturally, as if they had learned them spontaneously.
The three-person squad unleashed their full power, carrying out a merciless slaughter of the Undead army’s front lines. The Knight army had followed Yonglan’s lead from the start, launching their assault. In contrast, the Undead army was completely on the defensive, suffering a one-sided defeat with no effective resistance.
“My Lord! How should we respond? Please issue your command!” From the Floating Fortress behind them, the Lich inquired of the Undead Overlord. The Skeletal Constructs, their hormonal and emotional restraints removed, now had their souls’ flames flickering wildly in their hollow eye sockets. The giant skeleton, gripping its Blade Spear, stared intently at the battlefield ahead. Reason told him that the Godslayer possessed attack methods that posed a grave threat to Divine Constructs, and the wisest course of action was an immediate retreat. If a rearguard was left behind, the Knight Kingdom’s forces wouldn’t be able to pursue and eliminate them quickly.
But… was he truly going to run?
He had fled from the aftermath of the God Wars out of fear of the mad Celestial Gods. He had revealed all his trump cards to intimidate the Godslayer out of apprehension of the warriors who could slay Fiends. And now… was he to flee again? To have faced the Godslayer squarely one moment, only to scurry away like a stray dog the next? Watched by the advanced undead under his command, the Skeletal Giant felt his title of “Overlord” to be an ultimate insult. If he were to flee now, his authority would be completely lost. This was an unbearable prospect for a ruler.
The Undead Overlord pondered for a moment. His voice, a tremor in the air, resonated, “Advance! Attack! Kill them all!”
Thus, the still Undead army suddenly began to move. The Dynasty Guards spread across the mountainside moved in unison, their skeletal forms gleaming with a moon-white and iron-blue luster, exuding a savage, deadly aura as they advanced, as if the entire Earth itself was shifting with the gray tide.
As he shot down one Floating Fortress after another amidst the chaos, Yonglan noticed the movement of the Undead army. “You dare—you didn’t choose to flee, but to approach me?” The scenario he most dreaded was the Undead army simply running away, stretching their front lines and using their spatial depth and mobility advantage to harass and attack the expeditionary force. That would truly drive him mad. But now, victory would depend purely on a head-on battle on the battlefield, meaning… stats were paramount.
He glanced at his own attributes momentarily. 11 Dominance, Talent: Ember Forge; 7 Destiny, Talent: Soul Forging Technique; 7 Immortality, Talent: Breath of Immortality. Three primary combat attributes and three extraordinary Authorities. Considering the game’s extremely strict attribute limitations, each point was vastly different from the last. Without a doubt, my stats are above the enemy’s!
He continued to hurl missiles of light arrows with fierce intensity, bombarding the advancing Floating Fortresses. One by one, these colossal Divine Constructs crashed down as they advanced. While it might be an exaggeration to say they were completely destroyed, they were rendered virtually useless for the remainder of this battle. Yonglan fired until his body went numb and the depletion of his Spirit Matter made his vision blur, finally managing to halt the advance of the Floating Fortresses at the riverbank. The Night Walker Knights had also expended all their heavy arrows. Yonglan sheathed the Bow of Chasing the Distant Hunt and shouted, “Our arrows are spent! Draw your swords and slay the enemy!”
“Kill!” “Charge!” “For My King! Long live!” The Knight army surged forward. The river, now clogged with fallen fortresses and Constructs, no longer presented a disadvantage for crossing. Heavily armored knights clashed with Dynasty Guards, fighting ferociously as two tides merged. Yonglan watched the lines of engagement, continuously crushing stored soul orbs to replenish his depleted mana. His gaze, however, was fixed on the only Divine Construct still mobile and the skeletal giant standing atop the Floating Fortress.
The Undead Overlord stood with his Blade Spear, surrounded by countless devoted elite undead. Each was a towering Construct, markedly different from ordinary elite skeletons. The Ember Forge pulsed, radiating intense heat like a blazing sun from the warrior’s robust muscles, stronger than Orichalcum and Steel. The dust motes in the air, the dry earth and stone beneath his feet all spontaneously receded from Yonglan, creating an absolute vacuum around him. Countless rocks seemed to lose their gravity, beginning to orbit this domain like satellites. Yonglan extended his hand, and with the Soul Forging Technique, conjured a sword-spear from nothingness into his palm. He gripped it tightly, lowered his knees slightly, and then—”BOOM!”
Soul power resonated, the very foundation of the world rippling under the onslaught of raw power. Under the effect of immense Spirit Matter, gravity vanished from the land. The Undead Overlord had also been intently watching the Godslayer he feared most, tracking Yonglan’s every move. However, when the latter suddenly vanished from his sight, even with a Demigod’s senses, he couldn’t pinpoint his location. In the next instant, as an alarm blared in his mind, the Undead Overlord could only perceive a crimson streak, draining all light and color, piercing towards him from afar!
