Chapter 37: The Final Chapter
Kazumi closed the room door and slumped into the chair in front of the desk, her expression indifferent, as if nothing had happened. However, her slightly trembling hands proved that she was not as calm as she appeared.
“Hoo— I managed to get past that situation.”
Kazumi let out a long breath, shedding the disguise she had put on in front of Sato Shinichi. She raised her hand and summoned the coffin, taking out the sketchbook filled with various analyses and plans that she had hidden inside.
Due to the erosion of the death aura, the originally brand new sketchbook now looked a bit old. The edges of the pages were slightly curled, and each page seemed yellow.
Fortunately, the content written on it had not changed due to the erosion. She silently noted that the death aura also had an erosive effect on inanimate objects. Kazumi picked up the notebook, turned to a new page, and began writing something on it.
“It seems my assumption was correct. Sato Shinichi really came for me. He should be investigating the situation to protect me. The authority he obtained is greater than I imagined. Is it due to Warhammer’s immense trust in him, or is he the future hero cultivated by Warhammer?”
“There is a big question mark here. Sato Shinichi, as a student without any abilities, generally would not receive such great trust. Coupled with what he said earlier about training with Warhammer.”
“Can it be inferred that he has aspirations to become a hero? Or perhaps he is also a late-blooming awaken-er like me, relying on his family’s resources and talent to become a true hero. This can remain a point of doubt. If there’s an opportunity, I’ll try to pry some information out of him.”
She drew a circle around the name “Sato Shinichi” written on the notebook. Although her boyfriend seemed to have considerable influence in this matter, the underlying implications revealed by his actions made Kazumi even more alarmed.
Especially considering Sato Shinichi’s family background, having a retired hero as his great-grandfather, coupled with his own efforts, he could completely become like an “Assassin,” relying on not very strong “nerve reactions” and rigorous post-natal training and learning to become a hero with a decent ranking in the Heroes Association.
“It’s over! How did this guy get involved with the Heroes Association to this extent!!”
Kazumi scratched her head in frustration. If Sato Shinichi was truly working hard to become a hero for ordinary people, her plan to break up with him seemed to be in serious jeopardy.
Given Sato Shinichi’s personality, if she were to suddenly propose a breakup without any warning, he might do something foolish. If he were to attract the attention of the Association, leading to a renewed investigation into her relationship with the “Dark” Organization, or the discovery of her biggest secret as a transmigrator, Kazumi didn’t believe she would have a good outcome.
“Now is not the time to be thinking about such things!!!”
Feeling that her fragile body was starting to drift off again, Kazumi quickly pulled her thoughts back and began to ponder the events that had transpired earlier.
As if recalling everything that had happened between the two of them just now, the faint physical contact and the scorching aura emanating from the young boy made Kazumi’s face inexplicably flush.
“Don’t think about these things either!”
Patting her face twice again, forcing herself to not recall the specific details of what had just happened, a blushing Kazumi wrote the word “acting” in her sketchbook.
“My acting was still a bit unnatural. Although I largely followed my body’s most natural reactions, I could still feel some stiffness. Fortunately, a little kid like this would probably be completely lost with just some hugging and cuddling. He probably didn’t notice any issues with me.”
“However, I might consider learning some acting. Finding some tutorials online is better than nothing. I’ll likely have to face him quite often in the future.”
Sighing in annoyance, if she had known it would cause so much trouble, she should have broken up with Sato Shinichi on the first day.
In her previous life, she hadn’t had much exposure to acting, but she had some social experience. Trying to act and deceive this little kid Sato Shinichi wasn’t a problem, but she really needed further improvement, otherwise, it would be bad if she slipped up in front of others.
“Sato Shinichi might have covered this up for me, but I can’t let my guard down. I need to maintain all my disguises to prevent anyone from the Heroes Association from coming to investigate.”
“I’m just worried they’ll conclude I have a connection with the ‘Dark’ Organization because of my parents’ identities. But as long as I stick to my story, like today, and insist I know nothing about them.”
She crossed out the symbol marked with an A, meaning that she absolutely could not have any interaction with this organization now, and even had to act as if she had never heard of this name.
“He said Uncle Fukada is being apprehended by the Heroes Association, but it should be fine. However, my plan seems to have to be put on hold again…”
As an executive of the “Dark” Organization, Kazumi wasn’t worried about Fukada Akihiko being arrested by the Heroes Association. If he was going to be caught, he would have been caught long ago, and it wouldn’t have come to this.
What Kazumi regretted, however, was that her plan to become stronger had been completely crushed before it even started. But for so many materials, needing corpses and other things, besides the “Dark” Organization, she felt no one could provide them.
“Let’s temporarily halt all activities. It’s only the fourth day…”
Kazumi sighed with a headache. It had only been four days since she arrived here, and so many things had happened, from transforming into a girl, to discovering she had a boyfriend, the joy of getting a cheat, and now the fear of being implicated in an arrest. The experiences during this period felt like a roller coaster, making it difficult to breathe.
But now, she had done everything she could. Currently, she could only wait for news from Sato Shinichi to determine her fate. As for the wishful plan of getting stronger from a few days ago, it now seemed like a joke with no meaning.
“I’ll wait. If nothing unexpected happens tomorrow, I’ll live a normal life for a while…”
After uttering this last sentence in a low voice, Kazumi picked up the notebook and threw it directly into the coffin beside her. She looked up at the sky outside the window. The morning’s dark clouds had already disappeared. The sun poked its head out from between the clouds, emitting rays of light, dispelling the gloom of the city under the rain.
Sunlight penetrated the clouds and curtains, shining on Kazumi, who sat at the desk. It was bright, warm, yet a little blinding…
(ps: I promised the boss to update a new book, so here I am, *gugu gugu*, making *gugu gugu* sounds. Recently, because my old book is in the listing period, my main focus is on pushing the old book. This one will probably, almost, should go on a hiatus for a while… I’ll be back after finishing 40 updates!)
(Further ps: I recommend myself, my old book “The White Lotus Codex of the Doomsday Saint Mother,” Doomsday gender-swap 1v1, may be a bit more realistic, but the plot logic is basically online. I hope old brothers who like it can go and read it. With 500k+ characters, it’s ready to be killed!)
