Chapter 468: Huh?
Today, I felt much more relaxed.
If you ask why,
I can’t quite explain it.
It’s just that the dark cloud that had been hanging over me seemed to have cleared a bit.
She watched the plot on the screen intently, her eyes and brows imbued with a touch of tenderness,
carrying an unconscious gentleness.
This gentleness continuously inspired the man sitting beside her. The man seemed to be truly looking at her on the screen, his eyes devoid of any smile. However, that relaxed and joyful mood
was like the summer wind, blowing in refreshingly,
with a calming magic that made one also relax.
She watched the entire movie intently, and only when the end credits appeared on the screen did she turn her head to the man beside her and say,
“There are so many people in the cinema,
I’m seeing so many people I haven’t seen before.”
Her tone was a little happy, and the man nodded upon hearing this,
“Because it’s currently the peak season for movies,
so there might be more people.”
“Is that so.”
She tilted her head,
“I don’t usually watch movies,
let alone in a cinema.”
“That’s why I brought you here today. Watching movies is a pastime and also an enjoyment,”
the man turned his head, looking at her with a gentle gaze,
“It can relax your state of mind to a certain extent,
preventing you from being constantly tense. This is beneficial for both your body and mind.”
“The movie today, I watched it very seriously and was very moved,”
the woman turned her head, looking at the man in front of her,
her pupils carrying seriousness and softness,
“Although it’s a very simple film, the meaning it conveys is profound, which made me think of many things.”
“Oh?”
The man raised an eyebrow, signaling her to continue.
“The protagonist in the movie, despite experiencing many hardships and setbacks,
ultimately achieved a perfect ending through his own effort and sacrifice.”
In the woman’s eyes, there was a hint of longing,
“Although in the real world, this situation is less common. Most stories don’t have a so-called perfect ending; they will have some regrets and some imperfections.
But this is only under normal circumstances, isn’t it?”
She asked.
“Yes.”
The man nodded,
“So you said you thought of many things.”
“On the screen, we can see the success of some people. Some people, through hard work, or because of some talent, can cross class boundaries and achieve a status above others, but this is only a very small minority.”
She spoke slowly,
“More people are unknown, and many have worked their entire lives without achieving class mobility, still maintaining their commoner status. This is also the norm.”
The man didn’t interrupt her;
he just listened quietly.
She spoke a bit slowly, as if carefully considering, or perhaps a bit hesitant. She glanced at the man,
seeing how gently he was looking at her, she smiled slightly,
then continued,
“I suddenly thought, for these people who strive, who strive their entire lives, only to end up with an ordinary life, haven’t they ever thought about trying, about striving for a better life, about becoming someone superior?”
“They have,”
the man said faintly,
“It’s just that they are powerless.”
“Yes, they are powerless,”
the woman nodded,
“It’s the cruelty of reality that shatters their dreams. Many have been worn down by life to the point of having no ambition; they just live aimlessly, only thinking about surviving and maintaining their current life.”
“Although it’s cruel, it’s also a norm,”
the woman sighed softly,
“In such a normal situation, those who can continue to strive are a very small minority. And among this small minority, those who can stand out are even fewer, truly capable,
wise,
and strong individuals.”
“Therefore, when people on the screen finally succeed, I still feel some happiness and some emotion,”
the woman shook her head,
“Even though I know it’s just a movie plot, this story of surviving adversity and ultimately succeeding can still bring
some comfort and encouragement.”
The man continued to listen quietly.
She went on,
“I’m not saying this kind of movie is bad; on the contrary, it’s very good. It’s just that
I’d prefer to see films that are closer to real life and depict true stories.”
“Real life is often cruel,
dark,
and full of despair. If
you
want to watch it,”
the man looked at her,
“I don’t mind accompanying you.”
“No need,”
the woman shook her head,
“I was just wondering if this kind of movie plot can really influence the audience? Can it help them in some way?”
“Although movie plots are fictional,
what they convey to the audience
is real,”
the man said,
“Movies convey a belief,
a power,
a hope. This
thing
can
inspire people and allow them to persevere when facing difficulties. This
is the value of movies
.”
“I understand.”
The woman nodded,
“A movie is not just a movie; it
is
spiritual nourishment,
able to give strength and prevent people from
getting lost
in the darkness.”
The man smiled,
“You are very right.”
“I think I understand.”
The woman nodded,
“There are indeed quite a
few
people in the cinema,
I’m seeing so many I haven’t seen before.”
The man smiled again. He noticed that she liked to repeat some phrases,
but this did not prevent him from listening attentively.
“And,”
the woman turned to the man,
“I discovered
something strange.
Why are you always looking at me?”
The man was taken aback for a moment, then smiled,
“Because you are very cute.
I can just look at you;
whether the movie is boring or not doesn’t matter. Watching you is an enjoyment.”
The woman’s cheeks flushed slightly. She turned her head and looked at the screen. The end credits had already finished. She slowly stood up, and the man followed suit, then they walked out of the cinema together.
“The movie is over. I’m a bit hungry. Let’s go eat something,”
the woman suddenly
said.
“Okay.”
The man nodded,
“What should we eat?”
“Anything,”
the woman smiled,
“I’m fine with anything.”
The man led the woman out of the cinema. She walked beside him, shoulder to shoulder, on the bustling street. She would occasionally turn her head to smile at the man,
and the man would extend his hand,
intertwining their fingers.
Their figures slowly disappeared into the crowd,
leaving behind a warm
silhouette.
“By the way,”
the man suddenly seemed to remember something,
“Your body has not recovered yet.
Do you want to take some time off to go to the hospital for a check-up?”
“It’s fine,”
the woman shook her head,
“There are no problems with my body, just a bit
tired.
A bit more rest will be enough.”
“Didn’t you say you wanted to go to the hospital yourself?”
The man asked doubtfully.
“That’s right,”
the woman nodded,
“But I’ve been busy recently. I’ll talk about it after some time.”
The man nodded,
“Alright, but please remember, no matter what happens,
your health comes first.”
The woman smiled,
“I know.”
“What should we eat?”
The man asked.
“I want to eat hot pot,”
the woman said,
“I want spicy.”
“Okay, let’s go.”
The man nodded, taking the woman’s hand,
and they walked towards a hot pot restaurant.
At the hot pot restaurant, the woman ate happily.
As she ate, she chattered about random things to the man. The man just listened quietly, occasionally interjecting a word that made the woman laugh heartily. The atmosphere was very warm.
After the meal, the woman and the man walked hand in hand on the street again. The man’s pace was slow, perfectly matching the woman’s. He would occasionally turn his head to look at the woman,
his gaze filled with gentleness and affection.
The woman looked satisfied. She tilted her head up and looked at the stars in the sky,
“The stars today
seem brighter than before,”
she said softly.
“Yes,”
the man nodded,
“Because you are by my side.”
The woman turned her head to look at the man, her eyes filled with sweetness
and happiness,
“You really know how to talk.”
The man looked at the smile on her face,
feeling a sense of satisfaction.
They walked a bit further, and the man then asked,
“Are we going home,
or somewhere else?”
The woman thought for a moment,
“Let’s go to your place.
I want to see your books.”
“Okay,”
the man nodded,
“Then let’s go.”
They walked a bit further and arrived at the entrance of the man’s home. The man took out his key, unlocked the door, and then led the woman inside.
“Sit down for a moment, I’ll get you a glass of water.”
the man said.
“Okay,”
the woman nodded,
She found a place to sit down herself,
and then began to look at the room’s decor.
The room’s decoration was simple yet full of artistic flair. The woman liked this style very much. She looked at the paintings on the wall,
at the potted plants on the table,
feeling a sense of relaxation.
The man came out with the water and handed it to the woman,
“Have some water first.”
“Thank you.”
The woman took the cup and took a sip.
“Do you want to look at books?”
the man asked.
“Mhm.”
The woman nodded,
“I want to see what books you have at home.”
The man smiled,
“Then feel free to look;
they are all in the study.”
The woman nodded, stood up, and walked towards the study. The man followed her.
Upon entering the study, the woman was stunned by the sheer volume of books. The shelves were filled with all sorts of books,
including literature,
history,
science, and more,
an impressive collection.
She walked up to the bookshelf,
picked up a book at random,
opened it,
and began to read intently.
The man stood behind her,
quietly watching her,
his gaze filled with softness
and doting.
After reading for a while, the woman put the book down. She picked up another one. As she read, she became engrossed in the content,
completely forgetting that someone was watching her from behind.
The man watched her focused expression,
feeling a sense of peace
and happiness.
He did not disturb her,
just stood quietly behind her,
watching her.
After an unknown amount of time, the woman turned her head to look at the man,
“I’ve finished reading. This book is very interesting.”
“Is that so?”
The man smiled,
“Did you like it?”
“Yes,”
the woman nodded,
“I think the story in the book is very inspiring.”
“Do you have any thoughts?”
the man asked.
“Thoughts,”
the woman thought for a moment,
“I feel that life is a continuous process of effort. Only through continuous effort
can one achieve a better life.”
“You are very right,”
the man nodded,
“Life is like a journey.
Along the way, one encounters many difficulties and challenges. Only by persevering
can one see the most beautiful scenery.”
“I understand.”
The woman nodded,
“Your books are really very interesting.”
“If you like them,
you can read more,”
the man said.
“Okay,”
the woman smiled,
“But it’s too late now. Let’s go back.”
“Okay,”
the man nodded,
“I’ll take you back.”
They walked out of the study hand in hand again,
and the man drove the woman back home.
At her doorstep, the woman turned to look at the man,
“I had a very happy day today. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
The man smiled,
“It’s my honor to accompany you.”
The woman’s cheeks flushed slightly,
“Then I’m going in. You should also go back and rest early.”
“Okay,”
the man nodded,
“Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
The woman nodded,
then turned and walked into the house. The man stood at the door,
watching her retreating figure until it disappeared behind the door,
then he turned and left.
On the way back home, the man was constantly thinking about what the woman had said.
He knew that the woman’s body had not recovered;
in fact, it had worsened.
She just didn’t want to say it.
He didn’t think much about it,
just felt that the woman was considering him and didn’t want him to worry.
The man returned home. He sat on the living room sofa, took out his phone,
and sent a message to his assistant:
“Contact the best hospital and arrange a comprehensive examination for her.”
“Yes.”
The next morning, the man received a call from his assistant,
“Boss, the hospital arrangements have been made. When would you like to bring her?”
“This afternoon,”
the man said,
“Tell her I’m taking her somewhere. Don’t let her know it’s the hospital.”
“Okay, boss.”
In the afternoon, the man arrived at the woman’s house early.
He looked at the woman,
“Let’s go, I’ll take you somewhere.”
“Where are we going?”
the woman asked doubtfully.
“You’ll know when we get there,”
the man smiled, took the woman’s hand,
and they walked outside.
They arrived at the hospital. The woman looked at the hospital entrance,
a hint of confusion on her face,
“Why did you bring me to the hospital?”
“I spoke to the doctor, and they said you might have some health issues and need a comprehensive check-up.”
The man said.
The woman’s eyes widened,
“You… how did you know?”
“You don’t need to worry about that,”
the man smiled,
“Since we’re here, let’s go in.”
The woman looked at the man’s gentle gaze,
feeling a warmth within her. She nodded,
“Okay.”
After the comprehensive examination, the man took the woman away from the hospital. On the way home, the woman remained silent. The man also didn’t speak; he knew what the woman was thinking about.
Back home, the woman finally spoke,
“Is my illness very serious?”
The man turned to look at her,
“Why do you ask that?”
“I don’t know,”
the woman shook her head,
“I just have a premonition.”
The man was silent for a while, then spoke,
“The doctor said your illness is a psychological one and requires long-term treatment to recover.”
In the woman’s eyes, there was a flicker of disappointment,
“A psychological illness?”
“Yes,”
the man nodded,
“But don’t worry,
I will always be with you.”
The woman looked at the man’s determined gaze. The disappointment in her heart slowly disappeared. She nodded,
“Okay.”
“I will find the best doctor
to treat you,”
the man said.
“Thank you.”
The woman’s eyes were a little moist. She reached out and hugged the man. The man also hugged her tightly.
They hugged in the living room for a while before the woman released the man.
“I want to look at my books.”
“Okay,”
the man nodded,
“I’ll accompany you.”
They went to the study again. The woman picked up the book she had been reading before and continued reading. The man stood quietly behind her, watching her.
After an unknown amount of time, the woman put down the book. She turned to look at the man,
“I think
I can recover.”
“Yes,”
the man nodded,
“As long as you are willing,
you definitely can.”
“I will work hard.”
The woman’s eyes were filled with determination.
“I believe you.”
The man smiled,
reaching out to stroke her hair.
The woman smiled happily. She reached out again and hugged the man. The man also hugged her tightly.
In this warm study,
the two people embraced tightly,
as if to merge into each other’s lives.
At this moment, they both felt each other’s love and warmth,
and also felt each other’s cherish and reliance.
—
A gentle breeze blew,
carrying bursts of
fragrance,
brushing past the figures of the two people.
They leaned against each other,
standing quietly together,
like a beautiful picture.
—
“Let’s go back,”
the woman said softly.
“Okay.”
The man nodded, holding the woman’s hand,
and they walked out of the study.
On the way home, the woman’s face was constantly smiling.
The man also felt her happiness,
and felt a sense of satisfaction in his heart.
—
This encounter seemed to be arranged by heaven,
allowing two lonely people to find warmth together,
to love each other together.
They both found their own happiness and warmth in each other,
and also found the direction and strength in life.
They believed that as long as the two of them worked hard together,
they could definitely overcome all difficulties and welcome their beautiful tomorrow.
