Chapter Six Hundred and Twenty-Seven: Hero Department Training Hall
It is a basic mode of human behavior.
How to stimulate the potential of one’s innate talent through postnatal effort.
How to stimulate the potential of innate learning through postnatal effort.
This is the process of learning, a process of stimulating potential.
Learning is a process of discovery, a process of awareness, and a process of enlightenment.
To unearth everything one is born with through postnatal effort.
A person must have an awareness of their own learning process, and a process that enhances their learning ability. This is called meta-learning.
Meta-learning ability is a person’s ability to learn how to learn.
Alternatively, meta-learning ability is a person’s ability to self-monitor their learning process. It includes two levels:
One is the ability to understand one’s own learning traits. That is, how can one learn better, and what are the reasons when one learns poorly?
The other is the ability to regulate one’s own learning process. That is, how can one overcome one’s own learning weaknesses and thus continuously improve learning efficiency?
The stronger a person’s meta-learning ability, the higher their learning efficiency and the greater their development potential.
The purpose of meta-learning is to learn more effectively—that is, to learn faster, better, and more lastingly.
Meta-learning is about learning:
How to concentrate,
How to remember,
How to read,
How to write,
How to connect knowledge and skills,
How to better manage time and learning environments,
How to make full use of resources,
How to face challenges,
How to seek feedback and support, and so on.
Meta-learning ability is a deeper ability than general learning. It can also be called metacognition, which is the ability to cognize one’s own cognitive processes.
It requires learners to clearly recognize their own learning:
Characteristics,
Strengths,
Weaknesses,
Difficulties,
Motivations, and other elements.
During the learning process,
appropriate strategies are used:
Such as time management,
attention allocation,
reading comprehension,
information gathering,
reflection and evaluation,
error correction,
seeking help, and so on.
To achieve optimal learning outcomes.
Three Stages of Meta-Learning
Meta-learning includes three stages: self-awareness, self-regulation, and cross-boundary integration:
Stage One: Self-Awareness
At this stage, learners are required to know “what to learn” and “how to learn.”
First is to be aware of one’s own learning goals.
Second is to be aware of one’s own learning resources.
For example: what information is available, what books, what teachers, what classmates can be consulted, etc.
Finally, one must be aware of one’s own learning methods.
For example: listening, speaking, reading, writing, thinking, doing, teaching, etc.
How to achieve the best effect with one’s learning methods.
At this stage, learners begin to try to adjust their learning strategies to improve learning efficiency.
Stage Two: Self-Regulation
This stage is crucial for the improvement of meta-learning ability. It requires self-tuning of learning strategies and mastery of learning pace.
At this stage, learners are clearly aware of their own learning:
Characteristics,
Strengths,
Weaknesses, etc.
They can adjust their learning strategies based on these insights and effectively allocate learning time and resources.
For example: if one finds that one’s attention is not concentrated, one will actively seek ways to improve attention.
If one feels that reading speed is slow, one will look for information and methods to improve reading skills.
If one feels a lack of learning motivation, one will seek ways to enable continuous learning.
At this stage, learners have gradually mastered effective learning strategies and can integrate them into their daily learning life.
Stage Three: Cross-Boundary Integration
At this stage, learners are required to integrate what they have learned and apply it to different fields to create new knowledge and abilities.
Learners not only master learning methods but also begin to explore the essence and meaning of learning.
They will use their meta-learning ability to break down disciplinary boundaries, connect and integrate knowledge and skills from different fields, forming a broad and deep knowledge network.
In the process of exploration, learners also begin to apply interdisciplinary knowledge to solve practical problems and innovate continuously.
Learners will constantly reflect, constantly improve, and constantly enhance their learning ability.
At this point, learners are no longer passive recipients of knowledge but active, proactive creators capable of cross-boundary innovation.
How to Improve Meta-Learning Ability
Meta-learning ability can be improved through conscious practice and continuous reflection. Methods to improve meta-learning ability include:
1. Reflect on the Learning Process
Consciously review your learning process anytime, anywhere.
For example: when reading, can you grasp the main points of the article?
When doing exercises, can you effectively identify and correct errors?
When talking with others, can you grasp the key points and think deeply, etc.?
This self-reflection helps you discover your learning blind spots, strengths, and potential, and develop targeted improvement plans.
2. Set Learning Plans and Goals
Set clear, measurable, and achievable learning goals.
For example: learning a new language, mastering a new skill, learning a new software, etc.
Clear goals and comprehensive plans are the navigation lights for your meta-learning.
3. Master Diverse Learning Strategies
Learning is multidimensional and should not be limited to a single method.
Try different:
Learning styles,
Such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, practicing, discussing, teaching, etc.
Learning paces,
Such as concentrated, distributed, etc.
Learning environments,
Such as libraries, coffee shops, outdoors, etc.
Find the personalized learning strategies that best suit you to maximize learning effectiveness.
4. Seek Feedback and Improvement
Learning is a continuous process of receiving feedback and making improvements.
Actively seek feedback from teachers, friends, classmates, or AI tools to understand your shortcomings and areas for improvement in your learning.
Analyze the feedback, identify shortcomings, and formulate improvement strategies to turn feedback into a booster for learning.
5. Manage Attention and Emotions
Learning is not only an intellectual activity but also the management of emotions and attention.
Learners need to learn to:
Concentrate attention, eliminate distractions,
Manage emotions, maintain a positive learning attitude.
Master some methods of self-relaxation and psychological adjustment to cope with the stress and setbacks in learning.
6. Build a Knowledge Connection Network
The highest realm of learning is to achieve thorough understanding and form a structured network of learned knowledge.
Ask more, think more, connect more,
Break down disciplinary barriers,
Connect seemingly unrelated knowledge points,
Form your own knowledge system.
Only in this way will the learned knowledge not be isolated scattered points, but a network that can be innovated.
Meta-learning ability is the cornerstone of personal success.
It enables individuals to:
Continuously optimize their learning strategies,
Improve learning efficiency,
Adapt to a constantly changing world,
Achieve lifelong learning and lifelong development.
Today, the importance of meta-learning ability is more prominent than ever before.
It is the key ability for you to succeed in the era of knowledge explosion.
Meta-learning is learning how to learn.
It is not just a concept but a practice, a continuously growing mindset.
Master meta-learning, master the future, and create a brilliant life.
