Chapter 76: Applying for a Job
The wind from the swinging bat made Kazumi’s bangs flutter. Kazumi’s eyebrows twitched, a response to the sudden intimidation.
Raising her head, her cold gaze slowly swept over. Before her eyes was a young boy exuding a ruffian aura. His messy black hair was scattered across his forehead. On his well-defined, handsome face was a pair of incredibly fierce eyes that ruined the overall beauty. Combined with the tattered school uniform behind the store apron he was wearing, a delinquent aura emanated from him.
But for Kazumi, with a psychological age of twenty-something, such delinquents who were part of society were merely frogs in a well, relying on a so-called “toughness” to swagger in their own world. They didn’t even have the courage to compete with others in society based on their own capabilities. They survived by living a humble existence at the bottom of society, seeking self-consolation through the vanity brought by brute force.
Therefore, Kazumi didn’t have the same fear of delinquents as ordinary students. Instead, a trace of disgust flashed through her heart. She raised her head, her cold gaze meeting the boy’s eyes.
“Hello, this recruitment notice doesn’t specify gender requirements for the position. Are you the person in charge here?”
Kazumi was never one to quietly swallow an unfair situation. Especially this delinquent boy in front of her. She didn’t know what she did to provoke him, but she could feel the deep aversion in his gaze towards her since she entered the store.
But so what? She was just here to find a job. What did it matter if this stranger liked her or not?
As for the trouble and threats brought by delinquents?
Please, not to mention her uncle, an executive of the [Dark] Organization, and her boyfriend Sato Shinichi’s family’s considerable influence with the Heroes Association. Even as a psychic herself, if some reckless punk dared to bother Kazumi, she wouldn’t mind stuffing him into her coffin. After all, she hadn’t yet achieved the feat of having her first corpse.
“What a hassle. I am the person in charge. So, we don’t hire women. Do you understand now?!”
Impatiently scratching his cheek, the boy put away the bat he was holding and tossed it behind the counter. After rummaging in his pocket for a while, he finally took out a work ID and clipped it to his chest. His originally fierce eyebrows were squeezed together, making him look even more terrifying, like a wrathful deity from a mythical story. He barked at Kazumi fiercely.
But none of this had any effect on Kazumi. After all, the undead were immune to mental attacks, weren’t they? (laughs)
However, the boy’s actions at this moment made Kazumi’s gaze focus on the work ID on his chest and the somewhat tattered and faded school uniform he was wearing.
The black work ID clearly displayed the words “Star Bikini Supermarket” in small characters, and below that, “Noyoru Yokota” in large characters. This should be the name of the boy who looked like a delinquent. It felt exceptionally unlike a delinquent’s name compared to his appearance.
Wouldn’t a normal delinquent have surnames like Serizawa or Takiya?
However, with the supermarket nameplate, it proved that the boy wasn’t just some idle delinquent looking for trouble, but someone who actually worked at this supermarket. As for the recruitment rules, they were the ones who decided. It was just that his attitude towards her was a little annoying.
But what caught Kazumi’s attention even more was the worn school uniform the boy was wearing. At first glance, Kazumi hadn’t noticed it. After being distracted by the nameplate, Kazumi realized that the school uniform the boy was wearing was actually from Shikoku Gakuin!
[Could he be from the school, working part-time?]
Frowning, Kazumi pondered the identity of the other person. Since it was quite close to Shikoku Junior High School, it was normal for people living nearby to come out to work part-time to earn pocket money.
However, it was unlikely for a typical delinquent to get into Shikoku High School.
With random thoughts running through her mind, Kazumi nodded at him neither subserviently nor obsequiously. Since he was a supermarket employee and had clearly told her they didn’t hire women, there was nothing more for her to pester about. She still had several other planned job hunting locations and didn’t need to cling to this one.
“In that case, sorry to have bothered you.”
Kazumi put the recruitment slip back into her pocket and turned to head out the door. It was a pity, as this was the position she had initially set her sights on, with both the hourly wage and location being within her very satisfactory range.
Thinking about it again, it wasn’t too bad. The other backup options were also good. She didn’t need to earn a lot of money, as she was already “kept” by her meal ticket and Uncle Fukada. All she needed was a plausible reason to avoid suspicion when she eventually produced the money.
“Noyoru Yokota!!!”
Just as Kazumi was thinking about these things and pushing the door open to leave, the supermarket door suddenly opened. A tall, stout middle-aged man walked in, appearing to be wearing the store’s uniform. Flames of anger blazed in his eyes. He casually grabbed a plush toy and threw it at the boy standing by the door.
“Is this the result of you helping me recruit?!! No wonder you haven’t found anyone after recruiting for days! Didn’t I tell you to recruit a girl to help you?!”
The originally fierce-looking boy’s expression turned bitter at this moment. He covered his head, allowing the stout man who looked like the store manager to beat him with a dolphin plush toy, still protesting.
“I don’t need a woman to help me at all! I can do the work of two people by myself!!”
“You’re not allowed to bring personal preferences into work! Besides, you have classes during the day, and you can’t handle everything alone. This will lower the supermarket’s revenue, you know! It’s all about money! Money!”
Hitting the boy twice more, the store manager seemed to remember that there was still someone standing at the door. He coughed lightly and quickly put the plush toy back, lest other customers see it.
Recalling the scene he had witnessed at the entrance, he knew that the thin, small girl in front of him was likely here to apply for a part-time job. A gleam flashed in her small eyes.
He straightened his body and walked up to Kazumi, who was still watching the scene unfold, and asked.
“Hello, are you interested in working part-time at our supermarket? We can discuss the hourly wage and working hours!”
