Chapter 88: Video Call
Emerging from the luxurious sedan, Kazumi politely thanked Tsukasa Hamano and stood in place, obediently watching the car he was in drive away.
Only when the red taillights finally disappeared from her sight did the previously noisy street fall back into adeathly silence, and a comforting darkness enveloped the young girl.
Kazumi tidied her clothes and turned to walk towards her apartment building. Her previously cold expression shifted subtly for a moment, revealing a hint of triumphant smugness, but she quickly returned to her original state.
…
Night, Chindou Hall residential area, in Kazumi’s bedroom.
The travel-worn girl pushed open her bedroom door and shed her uniform, revealing her fair, tender body like a peach, and the pure black tank top she wore.
Exhausted, Kazumi didn’t bother to think about whether she had sweated or if she needed a bath. She threw herself onto the soft bed, relishing the comfort of her skin against the cool sheets. Languidly, she picked up her phone.
Most of the day’s events were well within Kazumi’s control. Whether it was her decisive action to blow up the arrogant thug’s head, or later beating down a group of bizarre-looking figures with Noyoru Yokota, or being rescued by Shinichi Sato using his family’s influence, all were anticipated by Kazumi from the start.
The only variable was probably her “dog” kid’s slightly yandere tendencies. Even after being out of contact for a few hours, he directly called Grandpa Sato.
However, it was harmless enough and spared Kazumi from spending a night at the detention center.
And all this sacrifice was likely for that pitiful boy who was bullied by thugs.
In Kazumi’s opinion, what Noyoru Yokota was experiencing now should be the darkest moment of his life. And by simply leveraging Shinichi Sato’s connections, she could easily pull the boy out of the mire of darkness.
By investing a tiny amount, something less than even a favor, she could invest in a student currently attending the best Hero Department in all of Japan. This was probably a no-lose business.
A student from the Hero Department who graduated from Shikoku could at worst become a key hero in a third-rate Hero Agency, capable of being responsible for a large district. Moreover, the connections and relationships they represented were countless.
Of course, given Kazumi’s personality, this level of return wasn’t enough for her to take such action voluntarily. While the benefits were decent, they weren’t so abundant that she would disrupt her peaceful life.
The main reason was…
Thugs should all just die!!!
Perhaps due to childhood trauma, Kazumi felt an unspeakable aversion towards these bullies who used their power to oppress others, wishing desperately that she could kill them all one day.
Only those who have experienced it know how much bullying and torment during one’s undeveloped mental state can have a lasting negative impact on that person’s life.
Noyoru Yokota’s temperament probably wasn’t bad. Although he looked fierce like a delinquent and initially disliked her, both the introduction from Manager Masamori and the kindness shown to him by those aunties proved that the boy wasn’t as bad as he appeared.
Kazumi even suspected that his refusal to hire girls at his establishment was likely because he knew what he was involved in and didn’t want innocent girls to be dragged into it.
However, she had acted, and Kazumi didn’t regret her actions. In Noyoru Yokota, Kazumi saw her younger self, the one who was bullied by thugs back then. And the role she played now was likely the classmate who pulled her out of the abyss at that time.
If all else failed, she still had Uncle Akihiko Fukada, an executive from the biggest villain organization, to back her up! If things really went south, they could just flip the table together. Directly killing someone and running away was also completely within Kazumi’s emergency plans.
[But honestly, beating up these scum of society feels exceptionally satisfying!]
Rolling over on the bed, Kazumi hugged her pillow between her legs and moved to the other end of the bed. Reliving the exhilarating feeling of beating up thugs, she opened her phone to reply to messages.
First, she sent a message to Manager Masamori to let him know she was safe. Judging by the anxious tone of his text, she knew that the plump uncle was very worried about her, although more likely he was worried about how much responsibility he would have to bear.
As for Noyoru Yokota, her difficult colleague, she didn’t actually have his contact information. She hadn’t planned on messaging him, but she remembered the worried and confused look the boy gave her when she was taken away by the police. Kazumi finally organized her thoughts a bit and asked Manager Masamori to pass on a message to him as well.
Then, she briefly summarized the day’s events and sent them to a skeleton avatar on her phone. Only after receiving a brief “1” from the other party did Kazumi close the chat window.
She believed that Uncle Fukada and his associates, as part of an evil organization, would surely be more adept at eliminating potential threats than she was. If Grandpa Sato didn’t handle things properly, she’d have to ask Uncle Fukada to “physically purify” those damn guys.
Sighing, as if her work was done, Kazumi lowered her phone slightly. Composing so many messages was still a bit tiring for her, after all, she had just gone through so much.
She picked up a small cookie from the bedside table, tore it open, and popped it into her mouth. The faint lemon sweetness melted in her mouth, and the subtle sourness from within the cookie made Kazumi involuntarily wrinkle her brows. She opened her phone and scrolled to the top, to a flame avatar next to a message count showing 99+.
[Shinichi Sato, are you a pervert?!!! Just disappearing for a few hours and you send me 99+ messages, are you sick?!!!]
Mentally cursing her “dog” kid, Kazumi still smiled as she read through all the messages filled with the boy’s concern. Finally, she couldn’t help but place her finger on the phone’s keypad and start typing.
[I’m okay now, Grandpa Sato came to help me, thank you for your concern, Shinichi-kun~ /❤]
The moment the girl’s characteristic white bone bubble message was sent, the flame avatar immediately replied.
[Okay!!!]
Before Kazumi could wonder why her “dog” kid’s reply was so short today, the next second, a video call request with a flashing flame avatar appeared on her phone screen.
