“Finally, it’s time,” I said.
“Yeah,” Sahzan replied softly.
At the bow of the Sky City’s ship, I stood on the deck beside Sahzan, who had removed her mask.
“I’m sorry for dragging you into this,” she spoke in an unusually fragile voice.
When we arrived above the isolated island, Sahzan had asked to come out to the deck, and understanding her feelings, I followed her.
“The defeat of the Fragment of the Evil God is my—no, our Clan’s long-cherished wish. Thinking about it now, I suddenly feel scared,” she confessed.
“I told you I’d help you,” I interrupted.
She smiled faintly, saying, “Thank you,” and gazed down at her homeland with a lonely expression.
“The light of the Sealing Magic Array… I used to hate it so much, but now everything feels nostalgic,” she said.
Her trembling hand reached towards a light only she could see… and I gently placed my hand over hers.
“A-Ah, Soma!?” she exclaimed, startled.
“I told you I’d help you,” I repeated.
Her face turned bright red, and she looked down, clearly flustered. To ease the tension, I spoke in a deliberately light tone.
“Come on, take a deep breath.”
“…Okay.”
“Stretch your right arm out straight.”
“…Alright.”
“Now, release the seal on the Evil God.”
“Okay. …Wait, what?”
And then…
At the edge of the deck, the released Fragment of the Evil God plummeted down, crashed into the Sealing Magic Array, and with a splat, it was destroyed.
I patted Sahzan’s shoulder as she stared in disbelief at the vanishing corpse. “We did it!” I said.
Overwhelmed with joy, she broke down in tears.
The long-cherished wish was fulfilled!
Soma: “Doing good feels great, doesn’t it!?”
