After Kousuke finished chanting the spell, the magic circle disappeared, and then more than ten wolves appeared, led by Nana.
Renka and the others, confirming this, widened their eyes in surprise.
Not only that, but Renka pulled on the clothes of the knight who was guarding her and asked him.
“As far as I know, I’ve never heard of anyone summoning that many at once. Is it generally possible?”
“N-no way! That can’t be! I saw it with my own eyes, I can’t believe it!”
In response to Renka’s question, the knight hurriedly shook his head from side to side and replied.
Kousuke didn’t know it at the time, but the knight Renka had questioned was also a magic-user knowledgeable in summoning magic.
When the knight definitively stated that it was impossible, Renka’s eyes widened even further.
Kousuke wondered what to say to Renka, but something moved faster than he could.
“Kya!? Uwah! Wh-what, stop!!!!”
While everyone else was surprised, the being that approached Renka in an instant was earnestly licking Renka’s cheeks.
That being was another wolf that Kousuke had asked Nana to prepare.
Incidentally, the breeds of the dozen or so wolves present were nicely mixed.
Furthermore, the individual that leaped onto Renka was, by all appearances, still a child wolf.
Normally, being jumped on by a monster wolf, even a child, would be a failure on the part of the guard. However, seeing the state of both of them, it seemed that such thoughts had all blown away, and they were watching Renka and the wolf in a peaceful atmosphere.
Renka herself was so engrossed in playing with the wolf cub that she had no time to reprimand her guard.
Taking advantage of this, Kousuke spoke to the knight and steward who seemed to have the most authority among the group.
“If possible, I would like to offer you one of the wolves I brought that seems to be a good match. Would you permit it?”
Kousuke asked this because he knew Renka was of a certain status.
No matter how much a monster might be attached to Renka, it was generally not permitted to keep it by her side easily.
In fact, the two people Kousuke questioned looked at each other with difficult expressions.
“…Looking at this situation, it does seem alright, but…”
“…It will probably be difficult.”
Their expressions conveyed that they wanted to grant Renka’s wish if they could, but considering the circumstances of their household, it seemed difficult.
Incidentally, although Renka’s wish wasn’t directly heard, it was obvious to anyone, so in this case, they wouldn’t ask her directly.
Kousuke had anticipated this answer, so he immediately nodded and made another proposal.
“Then, how about staying together just for the journey? If it goes well, you might be able to form a companion contract by then.”
The latter part was spoken in a deliberately lowered voice so Renka wouldn’t hear it, and one of the knights widened his eyes.
“…Is that possible?”
Generally, only Tamers, Beast Tamers, or those with very specific skills are said to be able to form companion contracts.
At least, Renka didn’t appear to have such a skill, but Kousuke suspected she might have the talent for it.
Otherwise, Nana and Wanri wouldn’t have shown such a friendly attitude from the beginning.
To the surprised knight, Kousuke nodded and continued.
“Yes. However, that’s just one possibility. Also… companion contracts can be made even without skills, you know.”
When he first formed a contract with Kou after coming to this world, Kousuke hadn’t learned any special skills.
Considering that, what Kousuke said now wasn’t wrong, but it was still an undeniable fact that skills were considered a benchmark.
Well, Crown Cards haven’t spread widely throughout the world yet, so there are still few people who actually know what skills they possess.
“Well, regardless of that, if you permit it, I will assign a supervisor. With them around, I believe unexpected accidents can be prevented.”
As Kousuke said this, he waved his hand towards the wolves that had appeared.
In response, two adult wolves approached Kousuke.
These two wolves did not approach anyone other than Kousuke, but they wagged their tails vigorously as Kousuke petted them.
“With them, they will never get used to Lady Renka, and furthermore, they will prevent other wolves from attacking Lady Renka or others unnecessarily. —What do you say?”
The people who were listening to Kousuke, who could tame wolves in an environment that was normally impossible, looked at each other bewildered.
No matter how you looked at it, they were more than half-skeptical about being told this by Kousuke, whom they had just met.
Seeing this, Kousuke said nothing more.
The knight and steward showed hesitation, but before they knew it, Renka had approached them.
“Is it no good…?”
Holding the wolf cub, Renka looked up with teary eyes, and the knight let out a pained sound.
“Ngh… I’ll leave it to you.”
“Huh!? Isn’t that cheating?”
Seeing Renka’s attitude, the knight faltered, and the female steward made a face as if to say it was unfair.
The steward (female) looked from Renka’s face to the wolf, sighed, and said.
“…We can’t take all of them, of course. Also, it will be Renka who is responsible for taking care of them. Please don’t try to push it onto us.”
“Thank you!”
Renka hugged the steward, who had given her the de facto permission, and said so.
The woman returned a wry smile to Renka as she continued.
“Also, I’d like to have a way to contact you in case something happens.”
Kousuke nodded in understanding as the woman looked at him.
Judging by the woman’s expression, it seemed to imply that Kousuke should also bear some responsibility.
Kousuke himself didn’t think any major problems would arise, but he agreed that it wouldn’t do to just give Renka the wolves and then say goodbye without any follow-up.
“Well then. In that case, I’ll make it so that you can contact me through my Crown Card.”
As Kousuke said this, he held out his Crown Card as Kou.
The knight’s expression changed to surprise at the card, and he looked at Kousuke.
“You were an A-Rank adventurer with a Crown Card…?”
“Eh…?!”
At the knight’s mumble, Renka and the others also looked surprised.
This is because becoming an A-Rank adventurer was achievable by only a handful of people.
Kousuke nodded as he felt the surprised gazes of everyone.
He then urged Renka to choose her favorite wolf from the ones she had summoned.
He advised that the two wolves who would act as supervisors were mandatory, and for the other wolves, she should choose only as many as she could handle.
The wolves Renka chose included the wolf cub that had initially approached her, a total of three wolves.
Kousuke considered this number to be reasonable.
After giving some final instructions, they parted ways.
This is the end… but it feels a bit incomplete. (´・ω・`)
Should I write a story about what happened later?
