Here begins Part 12, Chapter 6.
Kousuke, albeit with a slight delay, finally gave the new base a name.
While “new base” wasn’t incorrect, he had been urged from various quarters to quickly assign it a name, as there was no telling when he might whimsically decide to create another new base. Moreover, the house prepared for Seiya and Shia, who were currently attending the academy, could also be considered a new base. Kousuke couldn’t refute the idea that such places would eventually proliferate.
Thus, the name chosen from Kousuke’s proposals was “House of Genesis.” He had named it that because it was built on the very spot where he first landed, and surprisingly, the others received it well. However, it was also likely that his other suggestions simply ranked lower, a fact Kousuke chose to ignore. As a result, the new base prepared by Asura and the others was now gradually solidifying with the name “House of Genesis.”
Kousuke, observing a Maid Golem moving within the House of Genesis, mused aloud, “Hmm. I suppose I should put someone in charge of proper management.”
Silvia, who was also relaxing on the sofa, tilted her head and asked, “It doesn’t feel like anything is particularly lacking as it is… Is there any particular reason?”
“No, it’s not that anything specific is wrong, but rather, I thought it would be good to have someone who can make quick decisions.” Currently, the Maid Golem could only reliably carry out given orders. In short, its ability to handle emergencies was weak.
Silvia, understanding Kousuke’s point, nodded in agreement. “It feels a bit late to be bringing this up, but it’s certainly better to have someone.” Quite a lot of time had passed since the House of Genesis was established. During that period, not even monsters had seriously attacked, so it seemed unlikely that anything would happen from now on. However, since Kousuke and the others tended to wander here and there, having someone permanently stationed there would provide a sense of security.
“Right? But when it comes to who to put in charge, I can’t really think of anyone.” Silvia nodded in agreement with Kousuke.
After all, the House of Genesis was decided to be a place used solely by Kousuke and his wives. He had no intention of allowing any strange—though that word might be a misstatement—unnecessary presences. Kousuke couldn’t think of anyone who could meet such a specific condition.
Seeing Kousuke’s thoughtful expression, Silvia said, as if dismissing a minor concern, “Since nothing major has happened so far, isn’t it fine as it is?”
“Well, that’s true. I just thought it might be necessary someday.”
“I see,” Silvia replied, nodding. Kousuke had simply brought up the topic on a whim, and Silvia responded accordingly. Silvia’s expression clearly conveyed, “Do as you please.” Kousuke often started conversations based on fleeting thoughts, and Silvia didn’t engage with every single one. Moreover, she had gradually learned to distinguish between when he was discussing something truly important and when he wasn’t. On this occasion, Silvia judged that it wasn’t a matter of great significance. Of course, she still occasionally misjudged.
Perhaps sensing that Silvia had lost focus after her perfunctory nod, Kousuke said no more. The situation changed when Floria, who had gone to the management layer, returned while Kousuke was intently watching the Maid Golem.
“Hmm? What’s wrong, Kousuke? Are you sexually frustrated?”
“Bleh!” Both Kousuke and Silvia, who had been enjoying a relaxed atmosphere, burst out laughing at Floria’s sudden and outrageous remark.
“Wait a minute. Why would you suddenly say something like that?” Kousuke asked, with a questioning look. Floria, however, appeared perfectly serious.
“Well, you were intently watching the maid—golem, even though Silvia was right beside you.”
“Floria…” Silvia, faced with Floria’s rare attempt at a dirty joke, had a subtle expression of whether to laugh or be exasperated.
Seeing Silvia’s and Floria’s faces, Kousuke, judging that the situation could not continue as it was, quickly reiterated his earlier conversation with Silvia. Upon hearing his explanation, Floria finally looked convinced and nodded. “I see, so that’s what it is. That’s why you were watching so intently.”
“Ugh, no, I feel like my words are being misunderstood as usual…?”
“That’s just your imagination,” Floria said with a composed face, throwing a sidelong glance at Kousuke.
Floria then continued with a puzzled expression, “But is it really something to worry about that much? If you, Kousuke, need someone, why not just place them there?”
“No, that’s why, the problem is *who* to place there.”
“Hmm? What about an evolved Goblin, or perhaps a Winged Race? I believe they would gladly accept such a role?” Floria said plainly, and Kousuke turned a surprised gaze towards her.
Kousuke had not considered the Winged Race at all, although he had briefly thought about Goblins. Some of the Winged Race knew about the location of the House of Genesis, and more importantly, their loyal nature towards gods like Kousuke aligned with the original purpose of protecting the mansion built by the goddesses, making them potentially suitable candidates. The issue was whether it was appropriate to bring such beings into a place designated for Kousuke’s exclusive use. By the way, Kousuke had already ruled out Goblins because, with three types of familiars already present (and divine beasts at that), he didn’t know what would happen if he introduced another type of familiar. Seeing Sol diligently guarding the Lily Shinto Shrine, he could predict that nothing disastrous would happen, but it wasn’t an absolute guarantee. He was considering the situation for when they were absent, so it was better to avoid any potential anxieties.
However, that didn’t mean the Winged Race could be fully trusted. After all, they weren’t Kousuke’s familiars, so while the possibility was extremely low, there was still a chance of betrayal. Of course, Kousuke understood that this possibility was quite slim.
“Hmm. It’s quite a difficult problem,” Kousuke said.
“Is it? It seems to me like you’re overthinking it, Kousuke?” For Floria, entrusting the management of her living space to someone was a natural course of action. If she worried about betrayal constantly, she wouldn’t be able to live in such a large mansion. Nevertheless, she could understand Kousuke’s reasoning. Introducing an “outsider” into the House of Genesis could deviate from its original purpose. As a result, Kousuke’s mind was repeatedly cycling through possibilities.
In response to Floria’s words, given after she had accurately assessed the situation, Kousuke remained troubled, crossing his arms. Seeing this, Floria exchanged a glance with Silvia, then slowly shook her head and sat down on the sofa.
Kousuke is worried! (Or indecisive?)
I had originally intended to make a decisive choice, but I thought a development like this would be nice for a change. What he will ultimately decide will be some time later. (He might even forget about it, lol.)
