Chapter Nineteen: A New Dilemma
Yifu briefly toured the house she would be staying in; the space was even larger than it appeared from the outside.
Moreover, because it was in a wealthy district, this apartment was generally inaccessible to the public unless one was a resident, and even the front door downstairs might be locked.
So safety was completely assured.
It was hard to imagine that this was a property under the care of a little maid, but after all, she was the only maid close to Her Highness Princess Alice, so her identity was surely not simple.
Perhaps if one dug deep enough, her status might even surpass that of Yifu, who held the Empire’s Honor Medal.
The house was decorated relatively simply, with a design of four rooms and two lounges. The balcony had a very broad view, allowing one to easily overlook half of the Imperial Capital.
Although no one lived in the house, it appeared that someone often came to manage it.
All the living necessities were present, and even the sheets and blankets in each bedroom still carried a hint of fresh sunlight.
It was as if they had just been washed, dried in the sun, and promptly sent here to be laid out.
Yifu checked around; basically, everything that should be there was, except there were no food ingredients, though the kitchen utensils were fully equipped.
After all, with no one living there, putting fruits and vegetables here would be pointless; they would just rot away without any other outcomes.
This was the first time Leia had stayed in such a nice house. She carefully surveyed the room, walking with the utmost caution.
“Have you decided which room you want to stay in?”
As Yifu organized the living supplies in the room, she glanced up at Leia, who was curiously looking around.
Leia seemed as intrigued as a little cat, as if even the flowers and plants in the corners could capture her interest.
“I…”
Leia hesitated. She actually wanted to say that she wanted to stay with Yifu, but she found it hard to voice that thought.
Although their relationship was close, sharing a bed felt quite strange, right?
“I’ll stay… in the room next to yours. At night, I’m afraid of the dark…”
Leia made up a reason for herself and cautiously spoke.
“Oh, I see. That’s fine. I won’t lock the door at night; if you’re scared, just take your pillow and come find me.”
Yifu finished organizing the miscellaneous items in the room, mainly tidying up the food in the kitchen.
Although there were no fresh ingredients, there were still quite a few long-lasting items like flour and canned goods.
Yifu planned to use these cans and flour to make some snacks as a gift for Miss Qian Zhi next door; after all, they would be neighbors and should build a good relationship.
“Really?”
Leia instinctively raised her voice slightly, and then as if realizing something, she shyly lowered her head.
She patted her slightly racing heart, relieved; she had clearly gotten a bit too excited just now…
Luckily, Yifu didn’t notice.
“Of course! I’m going to prepare some biscuits to give to Miss Qian Zhi next door. You can tidy up your room by yourself for now.”
Yifu took flour out of the cupboard, not because the snacks from the palace couldn’t be sent, but because she believed the royal snacks were not as good as those she could make herself.
After all, she was a witch with perfect domestic skills, and the prowess that a witch could exhibit by learning recipes instead of spells was something royal chefs would envy.
However, there was still a more pressing problem facing Yifu.
That was, they had no money…
Yifu didn’t have a single copper coin to her name, yet everywhere required money; daily expenses needed it, and if Leia hadn’t become an outstanding graduate, the repayment for her student loans would require money as well.
It seemed they would have to take up jobs…
After all, they surely couldn’t just ask Her Highness Princess Alice for money, right? That would mean they were being supported…
Remembering that she had seen a recruitment notice for a full-time administrator when she had gone upstairs, Yifu thought it would be a bit strange for the white-haired, melancholic lady to work as an apartment administrator.
It felt like a scenario from a story…
