Chapter 21: Embarrassment
Yifu and Leia exchanged glances, both unsure of what was happening inside, listening to the sounds coming from within.
Click.
The door was opened, revealing Qianzhi’s exquisitely beautiful face, cold to the bone, in front of Yifu.
Seeing that it was Yifu at the door, Qianzhi’s expression showed no signs of emotion, only calmly asking, “Is there something?”
Qianzhi’s voice was as calm as her expression, serene as a still pond.
“Um, sorry to bother you, I’m from next door…”
“Miss Yifu, I recognize you.”
Qianzhi nodded slightly, her face peeking through the crack of the door. Yifu could tell that she seemed a bit guarded, so she didn’t plan to linger or waste words.
“I’ve prepared some biscuits, and I hope you’ll accept them. From now on, we’ll be neighbors, so I’d like to ask for your kindness.”
“Okay, thank you.”
Qianzhi accepted the biscuits, and the atmosphere fell into an awkward silence. The two looked at each other, and after over thirty seconds of silence, no one spoke.
“Well, if that’s the case, I’ll head back for now. If you need anything, feel free to come next door. Also…”
Yifu glanced at the small and delicate slippers at Qianzhi’s door.
“Your shoe is out here.”
“Oh, that was meant to be thrown away. Thank you for reminding me.”
Qianzhi nodded indifferently, but she did not go to pick up the shoe; instead, she continued to meet Yifu’s gaze with her cold expression.
“Well then, I’ll take my leave.”
Yifu awkwardly spoke and then returned to her room with Leia.
What a strange child… Yifu couldn’t help but murmur in her heart.
“By the way, I almost forgot to ask a more important question.”
Since this apartment is hiring a full-time administrator, Qianzhi, as a resident who has been here longer, should know more about it, right?
Thinking this, Yifu opened the door again, but to her surprise, she found Qianzhi had not gone back to her room but was squatting on the floor trying to pick up the slipper that had been left outside.
Standing on one foot, a delicate, fair foot slightly lifted, she was trying to slip on the cute rabbit-patterned slipper that she just picked up.
The moment she saw Yifu, Qianzhi’s eyes widened slightly.
A noticeable flush crept onto her pretty face.
In her fluster, she nearly lost her balance and fell…
Fortunately, Yifu reacted quickly and stepped forward to support her, otherwise, she would have twisted her ankle.
“Let me help you.”
Yifu took the delicate slipper from Qianzhi’s hand, bent down, and slipped it onto her slim ankle.
Feeling Yifu’s grip on her ankle, Qianzhi couldn’t help but tremble slightly. She hurriedly covered her mouth, afraid she might make even the slightest sound.
“Is there, is there anything else?”
Qianzhi tried to suppress her embarrassment, quietly asking Yifu, who was squatting beside her.
At that moment, she was utterly mortified.
“I just wanted to ask you about the notice downstairs. I’m looking for a job lately, so…”
“Just go ask at the Management Office; there shouldn’t be any issues…”
Before Yifu could finish, Qianzhi had already understood her meaning. After saying this, she hurriedly escaped back to her room, holding the bag of biscuits tightly.
Yifu watched as the tightly closed door and couldn’t help but show a puzzled expression…
“She really is a strange child. But the Management Office?”
Yifu remembered it was not far from here and decided to check it out tomorrow. Finding a job, regardless of the salary, would at least solve the current embarrassment.
On the other side, Qianzhi, hiding behind the door, cautiously peered through the peephole to watch Yifu’s movements outside.
Her heart raced, and she couldn’t understand why, but her heart would speed up involuntarily when she saw this beautiful lady.
This strange feeling was unfamiliar to her—it was the first time she felt this way in her life.
“Yifu?”
Qianzhi glanced at the biscuits in her arms, still warm, and smelling delicious; she couldn’t help but smile slightly.
