Chapter Sixty-Eight: I Am Sorry
“Is there anything wrong?”
Yifu turned around with a neutral expression and immediately saw Vivian, who had approached her.
This familiar voice sounded like a clap of thunder in Yifu’s mind, instinctively causing her body to tremble.
After all, she was the most important precious daughter of the original Yifu, the girl she had been thinking about even before her execution.
Hearing her voice, even though the current Yifu instinctively felt impatience, her body’s reaction was uncontrollable.
Fortunately, it wasn’t very obvious.
Yifu’s gaze towards her carried a sense of distance. Although Yifu was maintaining a smile, it was clear that it was a polite smile meant for a daughter’s classmate.
Essentially, it still carried a significant sense of estrangement.
Vivian had spent two years in the church, and without her mother’s protection, she had learned to read people early on, or she wouldn’t have made it this far.
Looking at Yifu’s expression, her heart felt a sudden prick of pain, as if she had been stabbed with a needle.
Vivian cautiously and greedily sniffed the fragrant scent around Yifu; this smell was too familiar to her.
Even though it had been two years since she last caught a whiff of it, the aroma entering her nostrils still made Vivian’s heart tremble.
It made her unable to resist the curiosity of when the last time was that her mother had embraced her.
It seemed like… it had been more than two years.
Thinking of this, Vivian couldn’t help but chuckle self-deprecatingly in her heart. Her mother’s embrace would always be open to her; it was just that she chose to distance herself.
Clearly, it was her own choice, yet now she felt silently sorrowful. How sad and laughable…
But the scent on Leia’s mother was indeed so fragrant, exactly like her mother’s scent when she was alive.
She seemed to have a gentle demeanor similar to her mother’s…
“Um…”
Realizing she would seem a bit out of sorts if she didn’t speak, Vivian hesitated and finally spoke up.
“I’m sorry, I was naïve before and made many mistakes. I bullied your daughter, and I’m really sorry…”
Vivian lowered her head, her voice as faint as a mosquito’s, completely lacking the authority expected from a high-standing Holy Maiden.
“You came here to apologize?”
Yifu looked at Vivian, who had her head bowed, and her expression showed no extra change.
“Yes, I truly apologize. I know what has happened, and my apology seems very pale, but… I still hope to express my regret.”
Vivian cautiously raised her head, noticing Yifu’s gaze was still cold, then she couldn’t help but feel disappointed and lowered her head again.
“You can just go to Leia and apologize directly; whether she forgives you or not is her business.”
“I am Leia’s mother, and my responsibility is to protect her. As for forgiving others on her behalf… I don’t have that right.”
Yifu’s words made Vivian’s body tremble. Since she had become the Holy Maiden, how many decisions had others made for her?
Sometimes she couldn’t even decide on her own clothing and necessities.
Whatever she did was controlled by the church, leaving her completely without freedom, like a mere mascot.
This was not just control; it was more about disrespect towards Vivian.
But Yifu was different. She was filled with respect for her daughter, even though she was still a child…
She allowed her daughter to make decisions freely while she silently stood behind her, unconditionally providing protection.
That was respect, that was love, that was family.
Vivian’s envy was written all over her face. Once upon a time, she also had this happiness, but now…
There was nothing left, nothing left…
Even the woman in front of her who resembled her mother looked at her with a cold, distant gaze.
“I’m sorry, I acted abruptly. I will find an opportunity to apologize to Leia…”
“However, wrong is wrong, and if you don’t mind, I would like to invite you and Leia to dinner together.”
“Of course, if you refuse, that’s fine too. Just consider that I never said anything; I truly apologize for the disturbance.”
Vivian took out a business card and handed it to Yifu, bowing deeply to her before turning to leave.
“Wait a minute.”
But just as Vivian took two steps out, Yifu called her back.
