At the border between the Cape Kingdom and the Anju Kingdom, a reconnaissance squad from the Anju Kingdom was moving through the forest, searching for opportunities for the professional army behind them.
Under the reforms of the new king Alberto of Anju, the main fighting force of the Anju army is now a well-structured legion of professionals.
This combat capability is several times stronger than that of the Cape Kingdom.
Of course, this does not mean that the number of professionals in Cape is fewer, but rather that Cape lacks the power to gather these professionals together under a single command.
Cape’s operational structure is more akin to mercenaries, where one or more professionals lead a group of ordinary people into battle.
This structure can quickly form combat power, as the professionals themselves possess enough deterrent capability, not needing to consider whether their subordinates will obey orders. Whether it is to eliminate bandits or defend against enemies at the border, Cape’s system can swiftly muster combat capability.
This approach is even more cost-effective, since typically, when paying soldiers, you only need to give the leading professionals their share, and the remaining issues can be resolved within the team.
Of course, the main reason for forming such a structure is that the entire Cape Kingdom lacks a unified command system, forcing those professionals to fight for their own lords as mercenaries.
Until the Lars Family reformed the border army system to counter the Demon Clan and implemented this structure throughout the kingdom.
At least now, the border army is no longer managed by scattered border lords but commanded by the duke families of various territories. Although the form of the army has not changed significantly, at least the border army has a unified command structure.
Even so, compared to the well-structured Anju Kingdom, the overall quality gap of the military is considerable, and Anju does not rely solely on organized professional armies.
The rise of Anju was not an overnight success. Before Alberto consolidated power through bloody means, previous generations of Anju kings had already laid the groundwork for reform.
Among the most important aspects is professional education. In Cape, if a person only knows one type of magic and has no clear understanding of the principles of magic operation, such a person may not even qualify as an apprentice and is considered a typical waste who cannot even work for professionals, living modestly compared to ordinary people.
However, Anju has a specialized educational system to cultivate these “typical wastes.”
Even if you have no magical talent, as long as you possess a bit of magical affinity and can learn the most basic spell, even if it takes several times longer, Anju has specialized schools and subjects for you to study.
A simple example is the Eagle Eye technique. Anju already has the prototype of a military academy and specifically trains scouts who use the Eagle Eye technique. These students undergo standard military scout training and, in addition, are taught the basic Eagle Eye technique.
Typically, students sent here to learn the Eagle Eye technique take many times more time than legitimate spellcasters. Such individuals are considered typical wastes in the Cape Kingdom, having some magical affinity but nothing more.
Unless they are noble children, no one in the Cape Kingdom would invest significant resources in such people.
But Anju has already developed a relatively complete educational system in this regard. You do not need to understand the operating principles behind the Eagle Eye technique, nor do you need to grasp what magic power is; you just need to learn to use the Eagle Eye technique.
Once you learn it, you will be sent to a military camp, becoming a scout specialized in the Eagle Eye technique.
This is fundamentally different from Cape’s scout professionals. Cape’s scout professionals must not only master the basic Eagle Eye technique but also many supplementary detection spells and shadow-walking magic necessary for escape, possessing true professional attributes.
However, such professionals are quite rare, and some small lords or even leaders of moderately sized private armies may struggle to have such a scout professional.
Almost every unit, and even every squad in Anju, has a soldier who uses the Eagle Eye technique.
For instance, the leader of this reconnaissance squad moving through the forest is a user of the Eagle Eye technique.
Additionally, the subjects offered by Anju are not limited to just the Eagle Eye technique, as most others are practical spells similar to the Eagle Eye technique.
These individuals form a very comprehensive reconnaissance squad.
In terms of military thinking, this world can be described as very advanced. If Lind were to thoroughly understand the military system of Alberto and the Anju Kingdom, he would surely sigh and recognize that they are the main character’s standard setup.
Indeed, Alberto is one of the male protagonists in the second part of this game.
If Anju were to further explore and deepen this system, it would only be a matter of time before they could swallow up Cape.
However, this system is not without its drawbacks. Magic still depends on talent; if you cannot do it, you cannot do it. The success rate is somewhat questionable, and even if you manage to learn the Eagle Eye technique, the proficiency levels among soldiers can vary greatly.
For example, someone like Antoine, who can freely use the Eagle Eye technique, has already reached the level of an elite soldier in Anju. In fact, Antoine is almost at the threshold of becoming a professional himself. However, even so, under Fang Ge’s leadership, he can only strive to become an obscure captain among the Fang Ge troops.
Anju’s ordinary troops are mainly responsible for reconnaissance, harassment, and logistical work, serving as cannon fodder when necessary—this term has now reached the borders of Anju and Cape.
Nonetheless, due to this, the ordinary troops of Anju find it somewhat difficult to engage in encounters with Cape’s army, as the other side has real professionals leading them, especially when facing opponents equipped with firearms.
Even so, Anju is sufficient to pressure Cape, as each unit has a professional using the Eagle Eye technique, making it challenging for the ordinary units to engage in skirmishes with Cape’s army.
Currently, the leader of this reconnaissance squad moving through the forest has already used the Eagle Eye technique to spot the coalition forces of the Cape Kingdom to the southwest.
“How strange, weren’t these turtles from Cape originally only able to shrink into their city and shoot cannons?”
A quirky soldier within the reconnaissance squad asked.
“This is quite normal; after all, our Majesty has previously teased the queen of the other side pretty harshly. If they are not anxious, that would be strange,” the squad leader replied with a confident smile after retracting the Eagle Eye technique and continued, “I wonder what that queen looks like. If she’s ugly, then our Majesty would be at a loss, wouldn’t he?”
After that, the entire reconnaissance squad burst into laughter.
“She must be very beautiful. I heard that the current queen of Cape is the widow of the former king of Cape. If she weren’t beautiful, how could she become the former king’s consort?”
“Then let’s grab her and bring her to His Majesty as a concubine!”
This reconnaissance squad laughed and continued their report.
Although they do not know the specific reasons for the Cape Kingdom suddenly daring to come out to confront them, they believe that with their professional army, they are still capable of crushing the Cape Kingdom.
