Chapter 10, Day 1 of Military Training
Ji Yunqi didn’t notice this at all, and even if she had, she wouldn’t have cared. All she could think about was her son.
After all, her son was the only family she had left in the world. If she didn’t think about him, she probably wouldn’t even have the motivation to live.
Because she couldn’t see what was happening ahead, Ji Yunqi could only listen.
“Hello, classmates, I am your drill instructor. For the next seven days, your class will be led by me. I hope we can cooperate well with each other. If you’re good, I’m good, and everyone is good, right?”
Ji Yunqi actually agreed with this. The drill instructors had their own quotas, and as long as they met them, they just needed to cooperate.
However, Ji Yunqi wasn’t sure what the training would involve. According to her son’s intelligence, it seemed that not all classes were the same. Some were doing marching formations, some were doing military boxing, and some seemed to be playing with guns?
Ji Yunqi didn’t hold out much hope for playing with guns. With her current frail body, whether she could even lift one was a question. Besides, that formation playing with guns probably had to be all male, right?
“Sigh…”
There was nothing to be disappointed about.
Soon, the essential part began: standing at attention!
Ji Yunqi was quite familiar with this. She just needed to stand properly. What surprised her, however, was that the drill instructor didn’t mention adjusting the formation!
She had been prepared to stand at the front, but now she was still in the crowd.
However, at this moment, no one dared to speak, fearing that speaking a single word would lead to the entire class being punished. If that happened, it would not be worth the gain.
Ji Yunqi naturally kept her mouth shut and prayed that the drill instructor wouldn’t notice her. Perhaps because of her prayers, the drill instructor did not notice her at all throughout the entire morning!
The sun wasn’t out in the morning, so Ji Yunqi could manage. However, as soon as she finished standing at attention, her vision went black, and she fell straight backward.
But the searing pain didn’t come. After a moment to recover, Ji Yunqi realized that it was the young man who had tried to “hit on” her who had reached out and caught her.
“Thank… Thank you…” Ji Yunqi was quite embarrassed. This morning she thought he was hitting on her, and now he had saved her. This was truly…
“You’re welcome.” The young man’s tone was flat, devoid of any emotion.
Ji Yunqi didn’t mind. She definitely needed to follow the large group to eat something now, otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to stand it when the sun came out in the afternoon.
“It looks like I’ll have to pay attention to adjusting my condition at all times during the military training this afternoon, otherwise I’ll become anemic again and almost faint.”
Walking into the cafeteria, Ji Yunqi casually picked a window. At first glance, 8.3 yuan?
It seemed quite cheap. There was meat and vegetables, and it only cost eighty-three cents. It seemed this university was indeed good, at least much cheaper than high school.
However, after eating, Ji Yunqi was stunned because she didn’t know where to go.
College students didn’t have fixed classrooms, and she didn’t live on campus. Unlike other students, she couldn’t go back to the dormitory to rest. It was now twelve-thirty, and training would resume at two-thirty in the afternoon.
It took Ji Yunqi almost an hour to get from home to school and back. Although Wang Mengyao told her that cycling would only take ten to twenty minutes.
But that was for normal people. She was severely malnourished now and had very poor stamina, she couldn’t pedal that fast at all.
At this point, going home to rest was impossible. Ji Yunqi could only randomly find a classroom. There shouldn’t be any students in the classrooms now, as students’ classes were also at two-thirty in the afternoon.
After much thought, Ji Yunqi decided to go to the classroom that Jiang You had notified them about yesterday afternoon. After all, she wasn’t very familiar with other classrooms.
After searching for a long time, Ji Yunqi finally found the classroom. She took off the hat on her head, shook the hair soaked with sweat, and scanned the room. To her surprise, she found someone constantly looking at her!
Upon closer inspection, wasn’t it the kid who saved her?
“Classmate, we meet again.” The young man smiled and spoke naturally.
As the saying goes, you don’t hit a smiling person. Since the other party had no ill intentions, she was naturally willing to talk properly: “Yeah, we meet again.”
While talking, Ji Yunqi sat down next to the young man. They seemed to have been sitting there yesterday afternoon.
“What’s your name?” Ji Yunqi asked curiously.
“Before asking someone’s name, shouldn’t you say your own name first?” The young man smiled and silently watched Ji Yunqi.
“Okay, I was rude. My name is Ji Yunqi. And yours?”
“Surname Ji, huh? Haha, my name is Ye Mingkong.”
“That’s a very nice name…” Ye Mingkong. Hearing this surname made Ji Yunqi think of her wife, who also had the surname Ye. What a pity… she might never see her again.
After a brief chat, Ji Yunqi lay down on the desk to take a nap, preparing for the afternoon training.
The afternoon was completely different from the morning. There was no sun in the morning, and the temperature wasn’t high, so Ji Yunqi could still tolerate it. But now in the afternoon, the sun hung in the sky, and it was unbearable to even take a single step.
Let alone standing here for the entire afternoon. Even though she knew she might not be able to endure it, Ji Yunqi still braced herself and returned to the team.
On the first day of military training, there were no other training activities, only standing at attention.
Initially, Ji Yunqi was indeed worried about this. Fortunately, the drill instructor would let them rest for ten to twenty minutes every so often.
This also gave Ji Yunqi a chance to catch her breath. She managed to get through the entire afternoon, but she could clearly feel that her physical condition was not good.
The money-making plan had to be put on the agenda. She needed to replenish her depleted body as soon as possible and couldn’t stay so weak.
Now, she couldn’t even run away if something happened.
The evening was similar to the afternoon. Ji Yunqi had nowhere to go, so she had to return to that classroom to rest again. With the experience from noon, she was much calmer when she saw Ye Mingkong this time.
“By the way, why don’t you go back to the dormitory to rest?” Ji Yunqi asked her question.
“I don’t live on campus.”
Not living on campus? This made Ji Yunqi a little confused. Why didn’t he live on campus? Yesterday, the clothes she saw him wearing were not cheap items. It was unlikely that he, like her, had no money to live on campus.
“Living on campus is relatively more convenient. Why is that?”
“Then why don’t you live on campus?” Ye Mingkong retorted.
“Sigh, I don’t have money. I’m poor, I can’t afford to live on campus. I saw you were dressed well yesterday, so that shouldn’t be the problem.” Ji Yunqi generously admitted that she had no money, as that was the reality.
“Not used to it…”
“Alright…” Ji Yunqi could tell that the other party seemed unwilling to talk to her, so she didn’t push it further. However, she didn’t understand why a young man was always gloomy and not at all cheerful.
