Mom and Dad Turned 18 Again – Chapter 5

Chapter 5 Father’s Good Son

The residential security guard was very responsible, stopping almost anyone unfamiliar, and Ji Yunqi was no exception.

Of course, this was within Ji Yunqi’s expectations.

“Who are you? You don’t seem to be from our residential area, what are you here for? You need to register to get in.” The security guard was like Ren Kun, speaking without emotion, only stating the relevant rules and regulations.

This was also why Ji Yunqi dared to walk in boldly; as long as one wasn’t suspicious, they only needed to register to get in.

After writing down her current information in the small notebook, she was allowed to pass. Ji Yunqi headed straight home.

This residential area could not be considered a high-end one, but it was definitely not bad. Even among similar residential areas, it was considered one of the better ones.

Four households per floor, with each family having an area of about 100 square meters. Ji Yunqi looked up from downstairs, but found that the living room balcony window at home was closed!

Normally, as long as someone was at home, the windows would always be open. Although her son was usually busy with work, leaving early and returning late, his wife was a freelancer and didn’t necessarily have to go to the company.

Even without needing to go to the company, the wife also chose to work from home for a long time. But with no one at home, it meant the wife was not there!!!

A sense of inexplicable fear surged into Ji Yunqi’s heart. Almost instinctively, she rushed towards the elevator. The house key always had a backup, hidden inside a broken tile.

After fumbling for a while, she successfully found the key, and Ji Yunqi opened the door without any hesitation.

As soon as the door opened, Ji Yunqi smelled a strong stench of alcohol. She instinctively covered her mouth and nose because it was too pungent.

She took a look around the living room. She didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, except that it was messy and looked like no one had cleaned it for quite some time.

Following the smell, Ji Yunqi came to the door of a room. The door was not closed but ajar. Ji Yunqi could already smell the pungent odor coming from inside.

And this room belonged to her son…

Creak…

Pushing open the room door, what greeted her eyes was a drunkard with messy hair, disheveled clothes, and wine products scattered around him. The image of this degenerate was a far cry from the image of the bright, handsome, and talented son in Ji Yunqi’s heart!

“Ji Chengyun!!”

In a panic, Ji Yunqi hurried over. After a thorough check, luckily her son was only drunk.

Looking at the wine bottles all over the floor, Ji Yunqi felt very uncomfortable. She didn’t understand what was happening to her son.

Suddenly, Ji Yunqi’s gaze was drawn to two white papers on her son’s bedside table. Her intuition told her that her son’s unusual behavior was probably because of these two papers.

Stepping over her son, she picked them up, but the moment she saw them, Ji Yunqi felt as if all her strength had been drained. She collapsed to the ground, and accidentally stepped on her son’s hand.

The papers were nothing else but medical records that had once plunged Ji Yunqi into despair…

[Patient Name: Ji Chengtian]

[Gender: Male]

[Condition: Terminal Illness · Late Stage]

[………]

Ji Chengtian was no one else but Ji Yunqi’s former name. Why would such medical records be in her son’s hands? However, what made Ji Yunqi despair was not this, but another medical record…

[Patient Name: Ye Yun Chu]

[Gender: Female]

[Condition: Late Stage Brain Cancer]

[………]

Ji Yunqi’s hands were almost trembling. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing!

Her wife… was also suffering from a terminal illness! No wonder she was not so resistant to divorce; it seemed she had the same thoughts as herself…

“Yun Chu, how could you do this… I’m sorry… I’ve harmed you…”

Warm tears flowed down her cheeks. Regret, pain, and despair surged into her heart. In an instant, she understood why her son had become like this.

The simultaneous death of both parents was a devastating blow to a half-grown child. No matter how much pain she felt in her heart, Ji Yunqi knew that regretting it now was useless.

Her son was still here, and she had to take good care of him. She couldn’t let this guy continue to ruin his body like this. Her wife was gone, but her father was still here, and she had to take care of her son.

Looking at the wine bottles all over the floor, Ji Yunqi could completely imagine what this kid had done. However, she couldn’t blame him. He was still just a child, too young. He had had a smooth journey all the way, and his growth had been smooth sailing.

Ji Chengyun had not experienced any major storms. His life had always been smooth sailing. Ji Yunqi had blocked all hardships for him, not letting her son experience anything.

Now it seemed she had raised her son as a flower in a greenhouse.

“Sigh…”

Although she really wanted her son to go through some hardships, she couldn’t bear to leave this place.

Rolling up her sleeves, she spent 10 minutes cleaning the room before using all her strength to move Ji Chengyun onto the bed.

After taking off her son’s shoes, clothes, and pants, and tossing him into the covers, she turned on the air conditioner before sitting down to rest.

Looking at her son’s flushed face, Ji Yunqi knew that this guy must have drunk a lot. This was also the first time Ji Yunqi regretted teaching her son to drink.

Now, before Ji Yunqi had even sat down for long, she was reminded of her wife’s death, and a wave of sadness washed over her again. At this moment, she also felt the urge to drown her sorrows in alcohol.

But reason told her that she couldn’t do it. No matter where she was now, she couldn’t let herself completely lose consciousness; it was too dangerous!!!

She had to find something to do now. Looking at her son, she could roughly tell that he would wake up soon.

She should take advantage of this time to cook something for her son, otherwise, she didn’t know if this kid would even eat when he woke up.

Her son had drunk too much alcohol, so spicy foods were not suitable. There were still some vegetables and meat at home. She simply made a few light dishes and cooked a bowl of soup.

In the rice cooker, Ji Yunqi also cooked some rice for herself. She made do with some pickles she had made before, and then kept the cooked dishes warm in the pot.

In this way, when her son woke up, he would have hot meals and dishes to eat. It was not convenient for her to reveal her identity to her son now, but as a father.

Ji Yunqi had the responsibility to take good care of her son, even though she was already in danger herself…

Finally, Ji Yunqi walked into the room, gently touched her son’s head, and her eyes became incredibly gentle, “Son, Dad is leaving. You must take good care of yourself.”

After saying these words, Ji Yunqi, suppressing her reluctance, got up resolutely and left the home she had lived in for many years. Perhaps she would return soon, or perhaps she would never return.

Not long after, the young man lying on the bed frowned and opened his eyes…
