Chapter 7: Expressing One’s Stance
Faced with Mengyao Gu’s thoughtfulness, Gu Yu was not someone who couldn’t recognize kindness.
So, it was time for him to take the initiative and express his stance.
“I was wrong before. Since I am no longer a member of the Yang family, I will have no further relations with them in the future.”
After saying this, regardless of how others reacted, Gu Yu felt quite satisfied.
He truly did not wish to have any connections with his relatives from the Yang family’s old house.
However, perhaps due to Gu Yu’s previous temperament being too outstanding, after he finished speaking, both Mengyao and her brother stared wide-eyed, looking utterly incredulous, as if they never expected… Gu Yu would say such words.
When Gu Yu saw his little wife’s adorable and cute appearance, he couldn’t help but reach out and poke her nose to bring her back to her senses.
Before transmigrating, he was already an 18-year-old youth, while Mengyao was only 13 years old now… This made Gu Yu feel a sense of caring for a younger sister rather than obsession with a woman.
Thinking about it, a 13-year-old girl hadn’t developed yet; her appearance was as flat as a washboard, which made Gu Yu really unable to think about romantic feelings.
It was also because of the space’s requirements, binding the two together for a lifetime, that made Gu Yu’s attitude towards Mengyao different from others.
In simple terms, it was the distinction between family and outsiders.
“A-Yu, are you feeling unwell?”
“……”
“Brother-in-law, have you been possessed by a ghost?”
“……”
However, while Gu Yu was declaring that he would not associate with the Yang family’s old residence, Mengyao and her brother were filled with suspicion.
Their faces clearly displayed the thoughts of ‘Husband, do you have a problem?’ and ‘Brother-in-law, we don’t have money for a doctor,’ almost voicing their thoughts outright.
Such a development naturally left Gu Yu with a face full of black lines.
However, Gu Yu did not plan to make his wife believe him just by words; he knew that practical actions were required to let the siblings understand that he had turned over a new leaf and was ready to start anew.
“Let’s not say more about this. Just watch my actions from now on! Also, any game we hunt in the future, aside from what we eat ourselves, will be sold for money. There are too many places at home that need money; we can’t just eat without earning.”
Gu Yu repeatedly assured that he would not deliver the game to the Yang family’s old residence. At first, Mengyao still looked skeptical, but after Gu Yu’s insistence, she began to believe him.
If Gu Yu truly stopped giving away the game, then their family could eat well in the future.
Until now, Mengyao felt as if she were dreaming, afraid that in the next moment she would wake up to find Gu Yu, who never had a good expression towards her, forcefully taking things from their home and turning around to give them to those vampires from the Yang family…
Perhaps because of her lingering resentment, Mengyao felt a bit of courage rising within her.
She chose to believe in Gu Yu, trusting that this man who had become her husband would not let her down.
“A-Yu, I can ask Brother Wu, who is hunting with us, to help sell the game, leaving only one wild chicken at home. The rest of the wild chickens and wild rabbits should sell for around 300 copper coins.”
“Hmm, you can decide.”
After impulsively stating her plan, Mengyao nervously looked at Gu Yu, unsure if her arrangement was acceptable.
Seeing Mengyao’s questioning gaze, Gu Yu felt a mix of incredulity and amusement and nodded.
He was the son-in-law who had come in through the back door; why did Mengyao’s demeanor resemble that of a mistreated little wife…?
As for the younger brother-in-law, who was staring intently, upon seeing that Gu Yu truly wasn’t delivering the game to anyone, he couldn’t help but cheer, a smile on his face as he took the wild chicken to the kitchen.
It wasn’t that Mengyao’s personality was overly delicate; it was just that the only capable man in the family right now was Gu Yu.
In the feudal ancient times, women’s social status was not high; otherwise, why would widows whose husbands had died always be bullied?
Although Gu Yu was only twelve, he was far stronger than eight-year-old Gu Qingheng.
At least he wouldn’t be treated like a fool.
This was also the reason why Gu Yu’s cheap dad, in order to repay a debt, was willing to have his son marry into the Gu family… Because he was concerned about the siblings of the Gu family being bullied after losing their parents, he sent his own child over to support their household.
Yet, worried that Gu Yu would later be implicated by the Yang family’s old residence, he gritted his teeth and changed his son’s surname directly.
But due to guilt toward his parents, after everything was arranged, Gu Yu’s cheap dad tragically crashed into the door of the old residence, fulfilling his debt of gratitude.
