Chapter 15: Quick Kill
Then came the time of monster grinding that was filled with both pain and joy. The Blood Bats, whether in terms of attributes or skills, were practically bugs in the Beginner Village. No wonder the cave exploration quest was rated as S-class—without powerful output capabilities, no one could outlast them under their life-draining abilities.
However, with Starry around, all the skills of the Blood Bats were rendered useless.
After the tenth Blood Bat fell, Endless Sea reached level 8.
“Just one more level, and I’ll be able to use the Shattering Hammer, hahaha. Then I won’t need to lure them this way; one hit, one kill!” Endless Sea laughed.
Looking at the scattered bat swarm, Zane said, “Killing all these Blood Bats should be enough to get us all to level 9. I just wonder how long this smoke will last.”
“No worries, let’s just do our best,” came the reply.
“Yep.”
…
As they repeatedly lured monsters, Brother Shiu suddenly spoke up from the living room.
“Achen, have you heard?”
“Heard what?”
“The Temple Guild! They discovered a mysterious cave earlier this morning, where a bunch of Blood Bats are stuck.”
“…”
“Just now, they hired a dozen low-level players to take turns entering the cave to lure the monsters! They attack the last one when it returns, so it won’t draw the aggro of the whole group. After such a long time, they must have eliminated more than half of them!”
Indeed, having more people gives greater strength… I never expected they could use a human wave tactic like this.
“Achen, your team’s experts must also be doing related quests, right? I heard that quests with a high-level assessment would affect the storyline. If they complete their quests, they might overshadow yours!”
“I know.” Zane pondered.
…
“Brother Sea, we need to change our tactic,” Zane said.
“What’s wrong?”
“The Temple is about to finish off the Blood Bats using human wave tactics.”
“Really? How many people can fit into such a narrow cave?”
“Probably true; this news is basically known online now. We won’t lure anymore; we’ll just take them out directly,” Starry said.
“…Heroine, our output can’t take them out instantly. It would be troublesome if we encounter their life-draining ability.”
“I can deal 150+, Achen can deal around 50, and you can deal close to 70. That totals around 270, which is just normal damage. The Blood Bats’ weak point is their head. We’ll try to aim for that place when we attack. As long as every strike I do can deal weak point damage, that should just drain the Blood Bat’s health.”
Endless Sea replied speechlessly, “Heroine, I know you’re amazing, but the bats’ heads are so small. How do you aim? If anything goes wrong, we could get wiped out!”
“Not just me, you need to do it too. After you reach level 9, kill one together with Sealing Dust while I solo one.”
Endless Sea fell silent and took a deep breath. “Alright! I haven’t played something this thrilling in a long time; it’s just a few bats, what’s there to be afraid of!”
In the next moment, a Blood Bat that had been smoke-stunned flew over.
“It’s coming!”
From Starry’s perspective, she focused intently.
The head is the weak point; it will move to the… left. Without hesitation, silver light flashed as an astonishing blue number appeared.
-248
In the next second, Endless Sea’s attack arrived, barely grazing the head and hitting the Blood Bat’s wings instead.
-65
Then came Zane’s follow-up hit.
-48
In a single encounter, they actually defeated the Blood Bat!
“That was so close,” Endless Sea lamented. Although the damage was enough, if they couldn’t hit the head accurately, what would they use to fight the Blood Bats after level 9?
Zane saw through his thoughts. “There will be plenty of opportunities; just practice slowly.”
“Next one,” Starry said calmly.
Just like that, in a mere 10 minutes, over 80 Blood Bats perished.
Starry had already reached the high level of 9, while Endless Sea was at 95% of level 8, and Zane was at 87% of level 8.
“Swoosh”
-150
An exaggerated blue number popped up.
Through constant practice, Endless Sea gradually understood the movement patterns of the Blood Bats. As long as he predicted their direction and estimated the corresponding positions, he could strike at the right time.
It sounded challenging, but the repetitive practice had given him a peculiar intuition, and now over half of his attacks were weak point damage!
“Swish”
A burst of gold light flashed, and Endless Sea leveled up.
“Hahahahaha!” He laughed maniacally, immediately switching to the Shattering Hammer, eager like a child with a new toy, ready to try it out.
The hammer swung with astonishing power, crashing toward the Blood Bat’s head without any resistance.
-270
This damage was already higher than Starry’s damage before leveling up! Moreover, after the heavy hit, the Blood Bat was slammed to the ground.
-50
And the ground slam inflicted additional damage!
“This feels like a cheat!” Zane quipped, striking in to finish it off.
As a heavy weapon, the Shattering Hammer’s attack power was undoubtedly top-notch. Its strength bonus had hidden effects, directly smashing the Blood Bat to the ground and delivering a devastating blow!
Although there was weak point attack damage, it was still too exaggerated. One could only say that using a Black Iron grade weapon on blue monsters was unfairly sharp.
“I’m the main DPS now too!” Endless Sea laughed wildly.
He then proceeded to attack another monster.
Unfortunately, this time he did not deal weak point damage.
-141
Heavy weapons already have a slow attack speed, and coupled with the Shattering Hammer’s attack speed reduction effect, he suddenly became a lamb ready for slaughter, just watching the Blood Bat fly toward him.
Seeing the situation, Zane quickly controlled Starry to come and help. A sword strike liberated the small life.
Starry put her forehead in her hand, saying, “Be careful; if you don’t deal weak point damage, back off immediately. I have a feeling there are definitely more Blood Bats in the cave; there might be something else lurking.”
Endless Sea nodded earnestly, “You’re right, Heroine… I got too carried away.”
Another 10 minutes passed, and all the Blood Bats lay fallen.
“By the way, I just got a piece of equipment,” Starry shared the attributes of the gear.
Standard Armor:
Rarity: Blue
Required Level: 10
Defense: 10
Stamina: 5
Description: Armor that has been mass-produced, seems fairly sturdy.
“Wow, a piece of clothing actually dropped! Now it won’t hurt as much if a monster touches me,” Endless Sea said.
“Brother Sea, do you want it?” Zane asked.
“No need, I have the Shattering Hammer now; you all can keep this.”
Upon hearing this, Zane put it away; after all, he wasn’t even level 10 yet and couldn’t use it.
“Let’s go in,” Zane said, taking out a torch.
…
As the three of them ventured deeper, the cave became more winding.
“Brother Sea, don’t touch me; the monsters are scary.”
“?? Who touched you?”
“You’re still trying to make excuses? Isn’t it just the two of us… three of us here?”
“Damn it, why would I touch you? I’m not gay.”
Not him? Then who has been touching me? Zane was puzzled.
Suddenly, he thought of a possibility and slowly turned his head, only to see a horrifying sight.
A terrifying face was gaping wide, revealing fierce fangs.
A gigantic Blood Bat was perched on his back, preparing to drain his blood.
“Ahhhhhhh——!”
