Chapter 23: He Definitely Deserves It
A woman was leaning on the counter, lazily looking outside, exuding an aura of lethargy.
Checking information.
Guide Healer: Hain
Rarity: Diamond Level
Level: 56
Description: Hain, eager to enter the battlefield and slay enemies, has been assigned to work at the guidance center in Yunshui City, becoming a Guide.
“So boring—!” Hain elongated her tone, spreading her lethargy.
“Excuse me…”
Hearing the voice of an outsider, Hain’s previously vacant gaze instantly became bright.
As if shaking off all tiredness, she pressed her forehead, “I didn’t expect an adventurer to pass the assessment on the first day.”
“Yeah, not bad, a good seed.” Hain rested her chin on her hand, staring intently at Zane.
“Um… I was wondering if I could ask about the general information on professions?” Zane said.
“Of course, that’s exactly why I’m here.” Hain replied.
At this moment, Starry also walked over.
To Zane’s surprise, Hain actually opened her mouth wide and her eyes showed an unrestrained shock, “Incredible…”
“…?” Zane didn’t understand what was wrong with her.
“Excuse me, young lady, may I ask who your parents are?” Hain inquired.
“… I don’t think you would know them.” Of course, Starry’s parents were characters from a dream; it would be a ghost if an NPC from Dream of the Mists could recognize them.
“Is that so… I apologize, it was rude of me.” Hain shook her head. “Alright, kid, which profession do you want to know about?”
“All of them!” Zane replied without changing his expression. To be honest, he didn’t even know what profession he wanted to play. Starry could be seen as a front-line physical DPS and tank, but playing a healing priest? That didn’t seem necessary as Starry’s health… If there was really a boss that could hit her, she would probably get instantly killed. As a man, Zane had a dream of being the main damage dealer; maybe choosing a mage or archer would be better? But swordsmen looked cooler! It really was a dilemma.
“…” Hain was speechless and then took a book off the shelf behind her.
The book was titled “All-Purpose Encyclopedia.”
“Here, all the information is in this book; go read it yourself.” Hain tossed the book aside and didn’t want to pay attention to Zane anymore.
Can it be so dismissive?? Zane had no idea it was his fault for saying “all.”
Fine, after a whole day of intense monster grinding, he was tired too. He could read this book for a while; let Starry change professions first.
Zane obediently sat in the first row of chairs with the book.
“Then, young lady, what do you want to ask about?” Hain asked, her hands crossed under her chin.
This NPC seemed to have a personality.
“Before I ask, I have an envelope I’d like you to see.” Starry took out the recommendation letter given by the Village Chief.
“Oh?” Hain became interested and took the crude envelope. The writing on it was slanted but that did not hinder Hain’s reading.
Hain frowned, but after a moment, relaxed.
“I didn’t expect something like this to happen in Hejia Village… if it isn’t handled well… it would be unimaginable!” She paused and then said, “Young lady, I already understand your glorious deeds. Possessing the bloodline of frost but not being willful, applying this power appropriately, I believe your parents must be proud of you.”
“Frost bloodline?” What the heck? Frost… could it be Ice Moon Slash?
“Do you not even know this yourself? I can sense the frost power within you, although it’s quite weak right now.”
“… I think you may be mistaken. Um… are there any wooden stakes or something like that here?” Starry asked.
Though she didn’t know what Hain wanted, Hain still nodded. “Of course, there are.”
She stood up and said, “Follow me.”
Starry then led her through a door.
Meanwhile, Zane continued to read the book diligently.
…
“These are all training dummies, for beginners like you, this basic one will suffice.” Hain pointed at the leftmost dummy.
Training Dummy (Beginner)
Rarity: Blue
Level: 10
Health: 5000
Attack: 0
Defense: 0
Skills: Automatic Repair
Description: Newbie-exclusive dummy, highly durable.
“Okay, then I’ll get started.” Starry drew out the Qiu Yue Sword and held it in her hand.
Raising the hilt high, preparing for a slash, suddenly, a strong force surged into her arm, it was the Qiu Yue Strike!
The elements in the air turned into frost and condensed at the sword’s edge.
“Ice Moon Slash!” Starry shouted.
“Bang!”
Almost at the moment of contact, the dummy’s arm was split in two but couldn’t completely separate because the power of frost turned the entire dummy into an ice block!
-2059
An astonishing number jumped out; the dummy’s health instantly dropped by two-fifths!
“What!” Hain was obviously also shocked that Starry could achieve such a feat.
…
“It seems, indeed, you don’t possess the frost bloodline… There is actually such a unique skill on the continent; I was too ignorant.” After saying this, she furrowed her brows and fell silent.
“Miss Hain? Where is the swordsman class transfer instructor?” Starry asked when she saw that she was nonresponsive.
“Ah! Ah? Oh, I’m sorry, I was lost in thought.”
“It’s fine, it’s fine. Do you know where the swordsman instructor is?” Starry asked again.
“The swordsman… that guy isn’t worthy to teach you.” Hain said lightly as if recalling something.
Worthy? Of course he is! If he isn’t, then I wouldn’t have any skills to learn!
“Shake off, Starry.”
“Huh? I’m here!”
“I know someone who may be the only one qualified to teach you, it’s just… he’s eccentric and difficult to figure out; he has never taught anyone. If you want to try, bring this badge; he may meet with you.” Hain said seriously.
“Beep”
System Notification: Guide Healer Hain has issued you an S-level quest, “Request for an Audience.” Do you accept?
“…”
“Of course, I’m not forcing you. I just hope you have a better choice. If you want to find the swordsman instructor, I won’t interfere too much.”
Is this a hidden profession’s transfer task!?
S-level difficulty, thinking back to that cave exploration, if it weren’t for Starry personally taking action, even if Zane managed to beat the Blood Bat by a fluke, he would have been three killed by Treika.
But… riches require risks; a normal profession indeed doesn’t seem suitable for someone as unique as Starry; I’ll accept!
System Notification: Obtained Windflow Badge *1.
System Notification: Quest accepted successfully, the target’s whereabouts are elusive and can be drawn out using special means.
“…” Zane suddenly felt like he was being scammed. Doesn’t that mean there are no approximate coordinates? Where to find him, is this some kind of poison?
“If you have some rare alcohol, he may appear before you.” Hain added.
Great, another drunkard; he wouldn’t be teaching Drunken Fist, would he?
I didn’t expect the profession transfer to be so troublesome, but since I’ve accepted it, I can only force myself to go through with it.
“That dummy… I won’t have to pay for it, right?” Starry asked tentatively.
“Well, if it gets damaged, you would have to pay, but since you froze the dummy in time, there shouldn’t be a problem. That little damage will heal on its own after a while.”
Only then did Zane feel relieved.
