Anju gazes intently at Nastasia.
Then, she carefully reads aloud, and we listen.
“Initial Skill: Double Class. Upon reaching Level 50, you can acquire one additional Special Occupation in addition to Hero. However, the probability is low, and if you fail to obtain it, you will cease to be a Hero. Current acquisition probability: 11%.”
“That’s quite an amazing initial skill, and it’s risky too.”
“Anju, what happens if you cease to be a Hero?”
“I-I don’t know, and also…”
“Is there more?”
“Ex-experience points are all at one.”
“No, forget that!”
I blurted out, embarrassed. Nina, as if nothing had happened, asks Nastasia.
“Nastasia, do you know more details?”
“Yes, I do. According to the records left at the Adventurer Guild, in the past, there were eight individuals besides myself who possessed this initial skill, and only two succeeded in acquiring the second class.”
“Hmm, so the success probability seems to vary from person to person.”
How would those numbers go up or down? “Current,” it says, so does the probability improve as one levels up?
“According to the Adventurer Guild’s records, the probability varies for each person, but it has been noted that no one’s probability changed up until Level 50, even with the ‘current’ status.”
“And in case of failure?”
“You would cease to be a Hero, your occupation would become blank, and then you would be treated the same as regular adventurers at the Adventurer Guild.”
To recap, people who are born with special occupations (Special Classes) like my and Nina’s Hero, Clarice’s Sage, Anju’s Illusionist, and Helen’s Summoner are rare. Those who are not are basically granted an occupation by applying at the Adventurer Guild. As an exception, Tamers can become both a Special Occupation and a general occupation. Were there other exceptions?
(Come to think of it, this party is insane when I reconfirm.)
Yes, it’s almost too late for that. This time, Clarice asks.
“If you cease to be a Hero, what happens to the skills learned through Level Up up to that point?”
“They either disappear or remain. In some cases, almost all of them disappear at once, while for others, about half remain. However, your level does not drop to 1; it remains at 50.”
“In other words, in a sense, becoming jobless at Level 51…”
Even if you were to become a Swordsman or Warrior in that state, your next level would be 51. That’s an incredible handicap.
(Alright, next I’ll ask.)
“What happens if you succeed?”
“According to the records of the two past cases, they became ‘Hero-Sage’ and ‘Hero-Tamer’.”
“That’s amazing. Hero-Sage, isn’t that what Nina and Clarice are?”
It’s a strange comparison, but in terms of amazement, that’s probably it.
“But, but…”
“What’s wrong, Anju?”
“Derus is also a Hero Porter.”
“Ah, that’s because Porter is a general occupation, or rather, a title.”
“Helen too, she’s a Summoner-Tamer.”
Ah, indeed. But in Helen’s case, it’s just that she learned Taming magic as a Summoner.
“Then, Anju, what does Helen’s current occupation show?”
“Summoner.”
“Then she’s a Summoner.”
“Gyafun!”
Leaving Anju’s peculiar reaction aside.
“But if that’s the case, there’s a possibility that a Hero could normally learn magic for Taming Monsters.”
“Not to that extent…”
“No, it might be possible. Anju learned Heal even though she’s an Illusionist.”
This is getting a bit complicated, so let’s get back on track.
“Helen, have you noticed anything?”
“Um, Nastasia, was your way of speaking like this before?”
“That’s, well, when I became a slave, they told me at the Commercial Guild to be particularly careful about how I speak.”
Is she forcing herself? I can tell by the pitch of her voice. If this were written down, like if Nina and Nakichi were talking, it would be hard to tell who was speaking.
(Magic for transcription, I remember that existed.)
“Anju.”
“Yes.”
“That magic you learned the other day, the one where spoken words appear as text in mid-air, can you use it?”
I forgot the name of the spell, but Anju cast it without incantation. I received an explanation, but this is my first time seeing it used.
Derus: “Okay, you two, try a conversation.”
Helen: “I have a junior slave in my Party. I look forward to working with you.”
Nastasia: “Yes, I will also be under your care from now on. Please treat me well.”
The names are at the beginning!
Nina: “Can this text be saved?”
Clarice: “Indeed, it’s a convenient magic for keeping records.”
Anju: “Chikuwa Daimyojin.”
Derus: “What’s that?”
We can distinguish them now, but it’s obstructing the view in front of me.
Derus: “That’s enough, Anju.”
Anju: “Aiy.”
She released the magic without incantation. The way slaves speak to each other is also somewhat hesitant. How did Helen interact with the Brown Slaves back then?
“Derus, there’s no need to force her to change her manner of speech, not now.”
“Yes. So, the question is whether to level Nastasia to 50.”
“Nastasia, what do you want to do?”
She starts to say something but stops abruptly.
“…I am a slave, so I will obey.”
“Then I order you, tell me what you, Nastasia, want to do.”
“Understood. Starting over with a new general occupation from Level 50 would be difficult.”
Even so, keeping her at Level 49 in our party is unthinkable.
“Don’t worry about that. With the synergy of our individual skills, you’ll level up quickly.”
“Eh, is that so?”
“Yes. Even starting from Level 50, we can make it so you level up as if you were starting from 1, so to speak.”
At that time, I’ll have her play as a frontline fighter. Come to think of it, I’m the only actual frontline fighter in our party.
(There will likely be maps in the future where Summoning or Taming Monsters isn’t possible.)
“Clarice, do you agree?”
“Yes. If we keep defeating Shadows in the Death Dungeon, we’ll reach 50 quickly.”
“Anju?”
“Chikuwa Daimyojin.”
“Alright, no objections then.”
It’s fine.
“Derus, for that reason, I’ve decided to train Nastasia.”
“Yes. Even if it’s 11%, it feels like it might be different in reality.”
Somehow, I have a feeling that luck will see us through.
(If she succeeds, what kind of Hero will she become…??)
And so, we decided to wager on what appeared to be an ‘11%’ chance.
“Hey, hey.”
“Hm?”
“Hero Chikuwa Daimyojin.”
“I told you, what is that?!”
