Chapter 113: 49. Fallen Nature
“【Mana Recovery】?”
Fisher said with confusion, chewing on the unfamiliar term. Although he didn’t know its specific meaning, upon seeing the other party’s ambiguous smile, he had a bad premonition.
Sure enough, the demon in front of him sat up, making an “OK” gesture with her left hand. Then she slowly brought her left hand to her mouth as if preparing to eat something, while giggling.
“The food of the Demon race is always diverse. Before we were driven underground, we were called ‘seductive devils’ because we love to prey on other species’ 【Fallen Nature】. But in reality, we get along quite well with most races, and the ones being preyed upon are probably quite happy.”
“I’m different from the demons in my clan who specialize in capturing 【Fallen Nature】. I’m rather lazy and don’t enjoy hunting. But you, you make me desire to taste your flavor. What do you say? Consider it a win-win. You can release your excess stock, and I can eat my fill without spending money, heh, what a wonderful thing!”
Fisher glanced at her tanned skin. At that moment, she had completely shed her cloak, and he realized that the body of the demon race was indeed quite beautiful. Eil’s body was very strong but also possessed a feminine grace.
The balance of these two elements was perfectly aligned with the golden ratio. Her tanned skin was full of fiery wildness, and her arrow-shaped tail swayed slightly, gradually twisting into a heart shape, and that flame grew stronger.
An unknowing evil fire began to stir in his lower abdomen, pulling Fisher into a desire-filled abyss, making him want to do something dreadful to this demon.
“What did you do?”
Eil looked at the human before her, slowly becoming wary, and her smile became more pronounced. The arrow-shaped tail behind her had unknowingly turned into a heart shape, but she slowly lowered it.
“This is 【Fallen Nature】, our food. You don’t have much food on you, but you are to my taste, quite suitable as a steadfast warrior.”
“The process of extracting 【Fallen Nature】 is an endless cycle. The more you eat, the more you will have in your body. A long time ago, you humans feared us, afraid we would entice you into an abyss from which you could not escape. But now it seems that even without us demons, your descent into the abyss was inevitable.”
Eil lazily exhaled a dense cloud of smoke, which carried a strong medicinal smell. Clearly, she was mocking the addicts seen in Snakehead Street—those without demons torturing them but filled with dense Fallen Nature.
As her tail changed shape, the evil fire in Fisher slowly receded, as if he had never experienced that strange reaction at all.
Fisher took a gasp, then observed the change in her tail and realized something. He said, “I see, you demons have the ability to stir biological desires, but judging by your strength, you shouldn’t be good at that.”
“That’s right, because I am an aberration among demons.”
Eil yawned, “I’m skilled in combat, so I said teaching you would be more than enough. But seriously, if you want to train, releasing your surplus stock of 【Mana Recovery】 is necessary. You can seek out your same-kind female… or, if you want me to help, I would be happy to.”
At the end, she chuckled, lowered her hand, and sauntered over to the bed. With a flick, she sent the bottle cap flying off, shattering the glass neck. She embraced the bottle and drank deeply, her expression remaining unchanged, and finally she blankly burped.
“Okay, since you’re not giving me 【Mana Recovery】, hurry up and get me some food. I’m starving!”
She shifted into “lazy pig mode,” her eyes blinking as if they were about to close, seemingly forgetting about the hunger she had just mentioned.
Fisher was speechless and had to clean up the experimental site, then prepared to head to the school cafeteria to get some food.
“You stay here and don’t run around. I’ll lock the outside door to prevent other humans from discovering you.”
Looking back into the room, he found the tanned demon had already embraced the bottle, her mouth open, starting to breathe in and out rhythmically, having fallen deep into slumber.
Fisher ignored her, put on his hat, and ran toward the distant Saint Nali University.
Initially, he meant to walk over, but he suddenly remembered what Eil had said earlier about his severely insufficient exercise, so he thought of using this method to stimulate his body.
Even with Fisher’s swift running, it would take almost half an hour to get from the laboratory to Saint Nali University. This outskirts of Saint Nali had a wide space, still not fully developed. He had heard that the Nali Exploration Company intended to build a huge wealthy merchant resort here, but the vote in Parliament did not pass.
The Griffin Party opposed it completely, as not far from here was the tomb of Godlin the First. The idea of dancing and playing golf in front of this founding elder’s tomb sounded disgusting, and so the development plan was shelved.
This stable area in Trandal was purchased from a private farmer. It originally belonged to them; he had supposedly sold his ancestral land and gone into business at sea. The only other land permitted for development was that of Saint Nali University, which was specifically authorized by the royal family, making it quite special.
Fisher soon arrived at the school entrance, barely breaking a sweat. Not only was he not tired, but he also felt as though his body had just revived, surged by an exhilarating feeling.
Was this what Eil meant?
Fisher confirmed Eil’s words and then went to the cafeteria to order several takeout meat dishes. Most of the portions were not very large, so he ordered a whole roasted chicken and roasted pork.
However, the cafeteria manager said it would take some time to prepare. Fisher could only have dinner first and wait until the food was ready to take away.
Now it was quite late compared to normal dinner times, and Fisher felt a bit guilty for having the kitchen work overtime. While waiting, a paper airplane drifted in, bringing a letter.
It was a letter from the sorceress Carlo.
Fisher read it and saw that she said she would be coming tonight to discuss the specific plans with Fisher. In his last letter, he had left her the address of the woods near Saint Nali University.
It seemed Carlo could no longer wait; her impatience was evident. Fisher silently tucked the paper into his pocket and then simply planned for the tactics for when Shivali came to visit.
He certainly couldn’t allow Carlo to assassinate Shivali’s diplomatic corps; it would bring immeasurable losses to both countries. The death of a normal scholar would destroy the hard-won trust rebuilt between the two nations, let alone what would happen if a prince were to die.
But the Pink Pavilion would likely not place their hopes on Carlo either; they definitely had backup plans, and he would need to gather more information from Carlo.
With a rough blueprint in mind, Fisher stuffed all the food into his mouth.
After waiting a while, the kitchen finally managed to bring the roasted chicken and pork. Fisher thanked them and then took his food to his office, where he called Martha using the phone there, saying he would be residing at school for the time being.
After receiving her caring admonition, Fisher hung up, rummaged through his office, and headed toward his laboratory.
The time spent coming back was slightly longer, as he was still holding two plates of food. After confirming that the door lock hadn’t been tampered with, Fisher pushed the door open and found the demon still immobile, holding the bottle, unchanged from when he had left.
However, the moment Fisher entered the room, her nose twitched, her eyes still closed, she moved her head unconsciously toward Fisher.
“Mm, it’s the smell of food.”
She slowly opened her eyes and looked at Fisher, rubbing her eyes and throwing aside the already empty bottle, walking toward him.
Seeing the food, she excitedly rubbed her hands together and unceremoniously lifted the plate, shoving the food into her mouth as if coal was being fed into the steam engine, not needing to chew as it was incinerated by the heat within her body.
This made Fisher question why the demon race had teeth; or perhaps this particular demon had a different way of eating.
“Mm, not bad. By the way, we can start training tonight. I’ll help you improve your weak physical condition; you look like a wreck.”
She domineeringly squeezed Fisher’s abdominal muscles with a “you don’t seem to be very strong” demeanor, pointing and lecturing him.
“.” Fisher did not respond to her comments but glanced at the time, shaking his head, “Tonight won’t work; I have other things to do. But from tomorrow onwards, I will come every day.”
“I have no issues, but I can only guide you for a few weeks. If I let 【Ag】 know I slacked off, I’ll be doomed. You plan your time.”
Having consumed all the food from the plate, she resumed her lazy demeanor, patted her unchanged belly contentedly, and lay back on the bed, immobile again.
Serenity.
For this demon, Fisher felt his biggest feeling was speechlessness.
Even humans who are just getting to know each other wouldn’t be this casual, let alone a conversation between humans and demons.
Yet she seemed utterly unconcerned; either this girl was incredibly thick-skinned, or she had the strength to disregard details.
Fisher’s gaze fell on the two curved blades she had placed on the table, the faint scent of saltpeter began reappearing in the room; it seemed that the smell certainly came from this demon.
Should he suggest that she take a shower?
Fisher thought.
The sky outside had completely darkened again, and Fisher gave her a few more reminders like before when he was leaving. This time she was not fully asleep and nodded in agreement.
Fisher then donned his gentleman’s hat and grabbed his staff, preparing to meet Carlo at their agreed location.
