Chapter 155: 91. Companion Sea Beast
Previously, Fisher thought the location of the ruins was in Cardu, after all, the Sorceress Research Society is based there. However, the ruins turned out to be in the Northern Region, which gave Fisher quite a headache.
Fisher does not speak the Northern Region Language, especially since this place is within the borders of Sardinia, where customs favor women and look down on men, resulting in few foreign males traveling there.
However, there are indeed many miraculous works of nature within the borders of Sardinia. Currently known are three peaks, two of which are in Sardinia, containing countless snow peaks and an unknown space that humans have rarely set foot in for centuries.
Fisher had heard news of relics being excavated from there before, so it was reasonable for the ruins to exist.
But Fisher was still uncertain about what subhuman species were there, and he was very curious about them.
Having obtained the clues, Fisher planned to put off his journey to the ruins for now. After all, there were still many tasks to tackle in Nali, and he would find time to go exploring at sea once he finished his current responsibilities. He also needed to save some money as treating Jasmine to food had almost depleted his savings.
Speaking of Cardu, he still couldn’t get in touch with Renee. The lark in the photo had disappeared a long time ago, and he wondered where she had gone. He hadn’t encountered such a situation before, so he could only hope she was safe.
After receiving the location of the ruins from Carolina via Prince Losang, Fisher left the restaurant and headed toward his office.
Earlier, he had arranged with Jasmine that she would be in his office every afternoon for the next few weeks. Isabel and Milica had returned home the day after the meeting, and because of the academic conference this week, Saint Nali University was on break, leaving only students like Jasmine, who had nowhere else to stay.
Moreover, Saint Nali was still celebrating the Godlin Festival, which offered many entertainment options and was much better than staying in school.
When Fisher returned to his office, he found the beautiful girl leaning on the desk, staring at a box. Who else could it be but Jasmine?
Due to her figure, Jasmine often wore dresses that enhanced her quiet and sweet temperament. Especially when she smiled with her rosy cheeks, her beautiful face always uplifted the spirits of others.
As soon as Fisher pushed the door open, she jumped in surprise, stood up, and tucked her black long hair behind her ears, looking a bit shy.
“Fisher-sensei.”
Fisher glanced at the box on the desk and asked, “What is this?”
“I-I don’t know. It was sent over by the teachers from the academic affairs office.”
As she spoke, she gulped nervously. When Fisher approached the box, he caught a faint whiff of cream. Upon opening it, he discovered a small cake inside, topped with a bright red cherry.
This was a small gift from the academic affairs office.
One must admit, Saint Nali University offers really good treatment for teachers. For instance, the previous theater tickets and the occasional sweet treats delivered to the office are all nice perks, most importantly, the generous salary.
However, becoming a teacher here does require certain qualifications.
There are many wizards outside, but Ken only wishes to hire members of the Nali Magic Association. With only around three hundred members in the entire Nali Magic Association, one can understand the value of this title. The average age of the members is thirty-six, and Fisher is the youngest among them.
This is thanks to his development of two original air-themed magic rings: one being “Dance of the Bees” and the other “Spinner.”
Although the combat application of “Dance of the Bees” is not wide, “Spinner” has been utilized in a wide range of fields including construction, rescue, and public affairs due to its durability and extensive application.
Unfortunately, when Fisher wrote these two magics in his thesis, he clearly stated “no patent fees,” or else he would be quite wealthy by now.
Speaking of wealth, Fisher reached into his pocket and brought out a large stack of Nali notes, placing it in front of Jasmine. Previously, she had asked him to help sell jewelry made from gold brought from the underwater. By only taking a few items, she was already nearing a hundred thousand Nali.
Gold products were relatively affordable. Since the southern continent was explored, much gold has flowed from goblin territories to various countries in the western continent, and the price of gold is far less extravagant than before.
Among the treasures Jasmine took, the most valuable was a black pearl the size of a palm, which sold for seventy thousand.
“This is the money from the treasures you gave me to sell, and it’s probably the closest to the highest price in Saint Nali.”
Jasmine didn’t count the money but struggled to take her eyes off the cake on the desk, as if she was contemplating something.
After pondering for a while, she suddenly had an idea, reached out, pulled a bill from the stack, and with both hands holding it out to Fisher, blushingly asked in a soft voice, “Fisher-sensei, can I buy this cake with money?”
Fisher was momentarily taken aback by her silly expression and chuckled, shaking his head. “One hundred Nali can order a large extravagant cake the size of your face from the best cake shop in the city. This small cake isn’t worth that much, so keep it. I intended it for you to eat.”
Hearing it was meant for her, Jasmine’s eyes lit up slightly, and her face turned red as she accepted the money.
She looked at Fisher gratefully, making him wonder if in the next moment she would pray to him, “Thank you for granting me food.”
“. No worries. By the way, can I see your tail? I’ve been curious about it.”
Jasmine hesitated for a moment before turning to see that Fisher had already purposefully brought over a small tank of water. Since he needed her to transform back into her original form for the study, he had prepared the water in advance.
Dazed by the cake, Jasmine was momentarily blinded and only felt conflicted when Fisher wanted to study her tail.
Yet after a brief pause, she could not refuse the food before her. Also, Fisher-sensei wouldn’t do anything strange to her, right?
So, Jasmine nodded shyly and made a quirky gesture of prayer because she must thank the origin of life, Ramastia, before she eagerly began to taste the cake.
She savored the sweet cream, and an expression of enjoyment naturally appeared on her face.
As her body slowly transformed into that of a whale folk, Fisher noticed her teeth were pointed, resembling some sharp fangs.
Jasmine said these were the result of her having retracted her teeth. When she needed to eat bones or other meats, she had to display all her teeth.
Since she arrived in human society, where food is cooked, she no longer needed to use all her teeth to eat, so it had been a long time since she showed her teeth.
Fisher asked her to demonstrate, only to find that there wasn’t much difference; it was just that her teeth were a bit longer, like slightly elongated fangs, giving her a cuter appearance, creating a kind of sweet ferocity.
She sat in front of the sofa, with her tail about two-thirds as long as the sofa. Normally when she stood, her whale tail would drag on the ground. In the sea, it was her primary means of locomotion, thus it was very strong.
Fisher tried to touch it and found the muscles of her fish tail were well developed, and its efficiency of use was very high. It didn’t appear bulky at all; rather, it matched her beautiful appearance.
Fisher could roughly imagine how beautiful she looked swimming in the ocean, thinking that was when she was at her most enchanting.
Feeling Fisher’s fingers on her tail, Jasmine’s ears twitched slightly, her face flushed as she turned to look at the focused Fisher, even the act of chewing cake slowed down.
“By the way, I heard from Rena that your royal family has something called a ‘Companion Sea Beast,’ right?”
Jasmine nodded at this, biting the fork that came with the cake box, recalling as she vaguely said, “Lord Ramastia once said that our whale folk are quite special beings born with the blessings of nature.”
“Blessings?”
“Yeah, the effects of these blessings are numerous and very useful in our daily lives. This blessing has completely opposite properties. For example, I can bestow others with vitality.”
As Jasmine spoke, she extended her hand, and her eyes glimmered with a faint blue light as if some invisible energy flowed from her hand.
“But at the same time, I can also take away the vitality of other things.”
After saying this, her gaze began to shift from blue to black, and her expression gradually became dangerous. The softness of her chest began to shrink, and in Fisher’s hands, her fish tail became as hard as steel.
In her hands, the vitality that was originally bestowed abruptly reversed, transforming into an extremely dangerous force of decay, as if something was siphoning everything from this world.
However, this state lasted only a second before dissipating. She took a deep breath, as if that power had put a heavy burden on her.
But since the duration was short, she quickly returned to her previous form, laughing as she turned to him, saying, “The opposite blessing cannot be used carelessly. It will disrupt the balance of life and lead to destruction, so we need to maintain the balance of life at all times.”
“The most important nature of life is balance. However, the blessings within us are far lighter than the counter curses. Therefore, every time a whale folk is born, a ‘Companion Sea Beast’ is produced from the sea trench, corresponding to each whale’s dark side. The stronger the curse, the stronger the ‘Companion Sea Beast’ that needs to be balanced.”
The faint blackness in her eyes slowly receded, as if it had never existed in this world. In Fisher’s hands, her fish tail gradually softened, emitting a faint floral scent.
“So that’s how it is.”
Fisher was deep in thought when Jasmine took this opportunity to abandon the fork and secretly swallowed the entire piece of cake, then happily rubbed her chin, showcasing an expression of enjoyment.
Oh, human food is so delicious!
“Ding ding ding~”
Just as Fisher was thinking, the office phone rang again from behind. Seeing the time, he asked Jasmine to use the water to return to her original appearance, while he went to answer the call.
Calling upon Ramastia, a tiny water snake peeked out from the edge of the basin, cautiously surveying its surroundings, and soon locked onto the human’s figure.
Then it turned back to glance at Jasmine. Seeing that nothing had happened to her, apart from her puffed cheeks, it sighed in relief. It gently waved its little hand, and a plump live salmon instantly flew out of the basin.
Ramashtia pointed at the salmon, seemingly wishing to offer it to Jasmine.
But Jasmine had just finished the cake, and looking at the freshly caught fish, which was bleeding, she felt no appetite at all, unlike before when she enjoyed eating fish.
Thus, she shook her head politely and declined, “Thank you for your kindness, Lord Ramastia, but I am full and don’t need to eat fish anymore.”
The little snake was stunned by Jasmine’s words, trembling at the edge of the water basin, seemingly recalling countless past memories filled with smiles and innocence but feeling that the Jasmine they once knew was gradually slipping away.
It seemed to understand something and resentfully looked at the human on the phone, suddenly spraying a jet of water at him, but due to the distance from the phone, the water fell to the ground halfway through due to gravity.
Even though it hadn’t hit him, Ramastia continued to spray water at Fisher as if he were a hated enemy.
“Trandal?”
Meanwhile, Fisher was completely oblivious to the deity spraying water at him from behind; he simply said, “. Okay, I’m coming over now.”
After he hung up, Jasmine had reverted to her human form, and the little snake in the basin had disappeared without a trace. Only Fisher, puzzled, looked at the droplets of water on the floor, unsure of what had just happened.
The salmon on the desk flopped around, causing Jasmine to blush as she pressed the salmon onto the desk, then awkwardly said, “Sorry! I’ll take the fish back to eat it! I mean I’ll hand it to the restaurant’s chef to cook it before eating.”
Fisher guessed this was a gift from the deity to Jasmine, so he didn’t pay much mind, watching as Jasmine clumsily knocked the salmon unconscious on the desk. He walked to the door and grabbed his coat.
He had just received a call from Trandal telling him he had brought black mamba wine to the front of his apartment, saying he wanted to invite him for a drink.
But knowing Trandal well, Fisher instantly identified the hidden message in his words, “Friend in danger! Hurry back!”
So Fisher planned to return and see what was happening.
He looked at Jasmine sitting in the chair and suddenly asked as if recalling something, “By the way, after the Shivali delegation leaves next week, let me take a look at the letter your aunt sent back. Maybe I can help.”
“Okay, see you, Fisher-sensei.”
Jasmine, holding the fish and with her face still flushed, felt warmth in her heart when she heard Fisher remembered what she had mentioned, then nodded in agreement.
Fisher smiled and opened the door to leave, while Jasmine waved at his back until he completely disappeared.
Then Jasmine glanced at the fish in her arms, just about to open her “big bloody mouth” to eat it, but thinking that humans wouldn’t eat raw things, she gave up.
Maybe she should take it to the restaurant and have it cooked.
