Chapter 63: 1. Sorceress
The sea breeze rose up the hillside, mingling with the fragrance of lavender to create a particularly comforting lullaby. Fisher seemed to have slept for a long time in such a quiet place. When he hazily opened his eyes, he first felt his head resting on something soft.
His vision was still unfocused, leaving his eyes bombarded by a blur. However, as his nose twitched, he caught a hint of delicate feminine fragrance and a few strands of black curly hair that cascaded down.
As his sight gradually cleared, he saw a young woman with a beautiful and elegant face, her skin fair and soft. She had lightly applied some lipstick favored by the Nali Lady, which made her aura appear alluring. But what impressed him the most were her deep violet eyes, as profound as the galaxy.
At that moment, there seemed to be a hint of sadness in her eyes as she looked at Fisher. It was only then that Fisher realized his clothes had been removed by her, revealing the bandages stained with blood underneath.
“Renee.”
Fisher rubbed his temples, realizing that he was resting on her soft thighs. The trace of fragrance made him somewhat awkwardly lift his head, while Renee did not hinder his movement; her sadness slowly faded away, gradually turning into a playful banter, much like intoxicating black mamba wine.
“Good morning, Fisher.”
“What are you doing here? Didn’t you send Hart to tell me you’re heading south to Cardu?”
Around them, the lavender fields were unknowingly filled with Larks adorned in purple plumage, while in the distance, at the edge of the forest under the azure sky, those bobbing heads of Larks all stared at the just-awakened Fisher.
“Hey, I don’t even know how I suddenly ended up here! Could it be that I missed you too much, so the Mother responded to my prayers? Thank you, Mother.”
She clasped her hands together, resting them in front of her body wrapped in a loose black gown, feigning a somewhat informal prayer gesture, but the corner of her mouth wore a mischievous smile as she looked at the speechless Fisher with one eye closed and the other open.
Then she realized that this kind of nonsense couldn’t fool Fisher, so her prayer gesture quickly transformed into a peace sign placed in front of her face, trying to charm him with her beauty.
“Did you follow me?”
Facing Fisher’s expressionless face, Renee exclaimed in indignation, “I just happened to have Hart deliver a letter and didn’t expect to find you lying on the ground, so I came to look for you! Please, I flew half a continent and across a sea just to get here, and you, Lord Fisher, not only don’t thank me but also question me?”
She weakly covered her face with her hands, faux-crying, “Wuwu, it’s so sad, I need Fisher’s kiss to get up.”
Fisher ignored her entirely, simply turning his gaze toward the south of the continent, as if he saw a carriage disappearing into the wilderness. It was likely that it carried a red Dragon Race girl.
Renee spread her fingers apart from her face, noticing Fisher was not paying her any attention. Her beautiful face, reminiscent of Fisher’s sister, puffed her cheeks in displeasure. Then, she effortlessly floated up, wrapping her arms around Fisher, her violet eyes, as intoxicating as the stars, gazed with him toward the south.
“Do you want me to help you chase the carriage back? My clothes are still on it, I can feel it.”
Fisher pushed the sorceress away a bit, seeming to feel a headache coming on regarding Renee. Her personality was undoubtedly the worst he had encountered; not only was it bad, but it was also shameless and unyielding.
You can say whatever you want, I’ll just consider it my defeat.
“Forget it, let her go; I’ve failed. Let’s go, I’m preparing to take a ship back to Saint Nali.”
“Oh? Is it a failure?” After being pushed away by Fisher, Renee didn’t get angry at all. She just pointed a finger at her red lips, tilting her head like an innocent child, and innocently asked, “Wasn’t it you who intentionally let that girl go?”
“. No.”
Fisher fumbled with the buttons of his clothes, only to find that layers of pale purple light were rising over his wounds. The blood had stopped seeping under that light and was healing.
Renee had already treated his wounds.
“Ah, Teacher Fisher, can I, your student, argue with you?” Renee patted her head and muttered softly, “It’s just a pity your entire belongings are on that carriage; there’s nothing left in the house in Saint Nali, right? You used everything to buy supplies and weapons. To just give it to that Dragon girl—if you’re that generous to me, how about I marry you?”
“Thank heavens, let’s skip that. Aren’t you heading back to the Western Continent?”
“Alas, my magic power isn’t enough; I can’t cast the spell to return to the Western Continent. It seems I can only go back with you. Such a pity, such a pity—having to spend so long on a ship together.”
“.”
As Fisher walked ahead, Renee followed behind with her hands behind her back, but upon closer inspection, her fair feet were bare and not touching the ground, floating in the air at a leisurely pace alongside Fisher.
The nature of sorceresses like her was quite strange, and due to their rarity, humans had very little understanding of them. The only thing known was that they were all female, had excellent magical ability and talent, and each sorceress possessed a unique “Characteristic.”
Renee’s characteristic was simple: her magical circuit was continuously expanding.
Though it could be described in a single sentence, expressing it in reality was rather fantastical. Her magical circuit was so complex that her entire body was filled to the brim.
After replenishing his knowledge from the Soul Supplement Handbook, Fisher realized this made the boundary between her physical body and soul very ambiguous; her physical form began to exhibit characteristics of her soul. This was why she could float now and sometimes even partially dematerialize, reducing physical contact according to her willingness to be touched.
Even with her magical circuits exceeding those of humans by an enormous margin, it still wasn’t enough. All those Larks around were material substances formed from the magical circuits that emanated from her body, and each of them possessed a simple consciousness. Their name still derived from Fisher, collectively called Hart.
Previously, Fisher wanted to study the nature of Hart. Since Hart was an emanation of Renee’s magical circuits, was it possible for her to transfer her consciousness to those birds?
However, this speculation was denied by Renee, stating she couldn’t do it. Fisher had to abandon the idea. Usually, these birds followed Renee, capable of inscribing magic by themselves and releasing spells—very strong comrades.
Currently, the Hart surrounding them was less than one-tenth of all she had; it was unknown where she had called the others.
“Fisher, I’m so tired. How about you carry me?”
Renee floated over in an instant, her face, which was obviously sisterly, often said such young and cute phrases. But don’t be fooled by her surface; one could see her true intentions from her deep, playful violet eyes.
“When we go to buy tickets, don’t float around; if you get caught and can’t board the ship, you can just fly back.”
“If you don’t answer me, I’ll take it as you agreeing.”
Renee completely ignored Fisher’s words, placing her hands on his shoulders and pretending to be carried by him while actually, Fisher didn’t feel any weight.
Fisher sighed, too lazy to deal with the troublemaker Renee behind him.
It was definitely the right decision to drive her away back on the Western Continent. Now, after such a long time apart, he should feel at least a little nostalgia, yet within a few minutes, this already scarce longing was scattered by her teasing.
As they descended the slope, countless Larks behind them took off into the air, following their path.
“You’re too heavy; go down yourself.”
“Liar; I haven’t added any weight onto you.”
“Since you didn’t add any weight to me, why should I carry you?”
Just as Fisher finished asking, Renee didn’t answer, suddenly producing a redwood staff inlaid with silver from nowhere, topped with an intricately carved griffin, and thrusting it in front of Fisher, blocking the rest of his words in his throat.
“Souvenir~”
She mischievously assessed Fisher’s expression, relishing the sight of the frugal Fisher rendered speechless by her expensive gift.
After a brief moment of silence, Fisher reached out to take the staff. It was much more exquisite and lighter than his previous one, undoubtedly expensive.
“. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Renee yawned and then floated, hands on his shoulders, with both of them tacitly avoiding mentioning that she should come down from his shoulders.
Thank you, Qiu Qiu and Piao Piao, very grateful.
