Chapter 82: 19. Turning the Tables
The sharp, icy scent continually invaded Fisher’s nostrils. Alagina was very close to him, but besides the earlier action of pushing him against the wall, she hadn’t directly touched his body; only her breath kept brushing against him.
As expected, to Martha, who was very eager for Fisher to get married, any woman who was of appropriate age and reasonably good-looking would be carefully considered for him. If Fisher hadn’t happened to run into Martha returning, she would probably have asked the lady in front of her about her family and work.
However, Martha’s well-meaning enthusiasm backfired, leading Alagina to realize that Fisher had been lying earlier. No wonder she had been staring at him since they first met; after confirming that the “child” Martha mentioned was Fisher, she became proactive.
With a sigh, Fisher could only admit, “I am indeed not married. The idea of having children was just a rumor spun by Martha. I only said that on the ship to get rid of your harassment. That woman is my close friend.”
Alagina leaned back a little upon hearing this, her gaze shifting to her hand resting against the wall instead of on Fisher, and she explained, “I’m not troubling you this time. Previously, we encountered favored males who advocate direct pursuit, but I won’t be like my mother; I respect your wishes.”
Fisher looked at the serious white-haired woman in front of him, suddenly curious about how she could say such somewhat embarrassing words with such a serious expression.
Could it be that she lacks experience with the opposite sex?
Absolutely none at all.
Fisher glanced past her calm demeanor and caught a glimpse of her earlobe hidden beneath her white hair. Her ears, originally slightly pink, were now entirely red, seemingly confirming her current nervousness and shyness.
“This necklace…” She looked down at the necklace in Fisher’s hand, extending her hand as if she wanted to grasp it but hesitated due to his earlier words, leaving her hand hanging in mid-air. “It was left to me by my father, given to the man I admire as a token of affection. That it has found its way into your hands means that both fate and I are drawn to you.”
“I know we don’t understand each other well yet; I may just be temporarily attracted to your appearance, but later, when I am no longer busy, you should give me a chance to freely understand each other. At that time, you have every right to refuse, and I won’t bother you again, using this necklace as proof.”
Fisher was slightly taken aback, then found himself amused by her words.
“Miss Alagina, have you misunderstood something?”
Alagina, looking puzzled at the smile on Fisher’s face, stared at him, unaware of his actions.
Suddenly, Fisher reached out and grabbed her wrist; with his other hand, he wrapped around her waist. The distance between them was instantly closed as he turned her around at the wall and pressed her against it.
“Bang!”
Just moments ago, Alagina was worried about harassing Fisher, but now she was abruptly pulled by him at her wrist and waist, his breath suddenly close. She instinctively wanted to struggle but found the man’s strength alarming, rendering her immobile.
The traditions of the Sardinia Kingdom made Alagina feel slightly uncomfortable being pinned against the wall by Fisher, but that only lasted a second. As she felt herself firmly held by him, she gradually found herself unexpectedly excited; the sensation of being unable to escape painted
