Chapter 90: 27. Bad Man
Fisher jumped down from above the pipe, seemingly lost in thought. The regeneration speed of the woman he had just seen was beyond his imagination, and based on her ability to regenerate in a way reminiscent of time reversal after the loss of her limb, Fisher felt it was very close to the prophecy of the Undying Sorceress.
It seems he would have to find her to learn more. The Pink Pavilion, perhaps.
Having discovered the hiding place of the Undying Sorceress, the sorceress Bart was no longer of use to him; he should have been a sorceress created manually by the Research Society, but Fisher was still unclear how they did it. Did they already possess high-level techniques for operating on souls?
It seems he would need to find some time to read the Soul Supplement Handbook to gain more knowledge about souls.
Just as Fisher was pondering this, several pirates in front suddenly screamed out,
“Alive! No, wait, not alive! What the hell is going on?”
“Huh?”
Fisher walked forward in confusion, only to see the headless Bart the sorceress slumped on the ground, the bloodied remains of her head continually sprouting visible lumps of flesh, just like the Undying Sorceress he saw earlier, but far inferior in both speed and degree of recovery.
Within a few seconds, the flesh lumps barely grew forward, before completely losing vitality and collapsing to the ground. Then, a terrible stench suddenly erupted from her excessively fat body. Fisher frowned and shouted to the nearby pirates,
“Step back!”
“Bang!”
As the pirates quickly retreated, after they had moved a safe distance away, the extremely fat sorceress’s body began to undulate, as if a balloon was being inflated. When her belly expanded to the maximum, a loud explosion erupted from inside, scattering her remains.
Even though Fisher and the others had hidden a good distance away, they could still smell the dreadful stench. Dimly, Fisher saw a small piece of flesh in that dense blood mist flailing its lumps, but just like her irreparable head, the flesh lump struggled for a while before ultimately turning into a puddle of blood.
As a result, the sorceress Bart of the Sorceress Research Society completely transformed into a formless blob. Fisher had considered taking her back to the Nali Police, though he knew they wouldn’t be able to tell that this blob was Bart from the Sorceress Research Society.
Fisher decided not to concern himself with the police matters, took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and dispelled the surrounding foul odor before turning to Captain Alagina and the others behind him,
“Aren’t you leaving Saint Nali yet? If you stay here any longer, I can’t guarantee what the Shivali diplomatic team might do to you when they come to Nali.”
When Alagina first saw Fisher coming over, she thought he was looking for her, perhaps to ask how she had considered the situation about whether she could accept certain matters below.
Now it seemed he was only here to track down the sorceress he had just encountered, and just happened to run into her.
Alagina felt a bit disappointed, but her tone remained calm,
“My crew is responsible for making one last supply run for the ship, and because of the incident where the informant was killed, we stayed a bit longer. Now everything has been taken care of, and we’ll set sail tomorrow.”
Alagina turned to look behind her, only to find her crew keeping their distance, whistling and pointing at the dark pipe above, one might assume they were the planning department from Nali coming to design future drainage pipe layouts.
Alagina opened her mouth, feeling a bit embarrassed about their obvious behavior. But upon seeing that Fisher was simply lowering his head to enjoy his cigarette without any strange looks, she relaxed.
“Ports should no longer be open to you; how will you transport those supplies away?”
Alagina glanced at the surging underground river in the distance, then said,
“Saint Nali has dedicated personnel for such services, located deep within the dark river ahead. This was information provided by our previous employer.”
Employer? So that’s the person who sent them on a mission to the Southern Continent?
Fisher didn’t ask specific details, and seeing that his cigarette was nearly burnt out, he extinguished it, waved goodbye to Alagina, and prepared to leave,
“I have other matters to attend to. Take care, and thanks for your help earlier. If there’s anything I can assist with in the future, feel free to contact me; I’ll do my best.”
Alagina watched as Fisher turned to leave, hesitated for a second, and then suddenly spoke to him,
“I have something I want you to help me with right now.”
“Huh? What is it?”
Fisher turned in confusion to look at the captain, only to see her expression still calm, but her deep blue eyes unusually serious. She reached into her bosom, pulling out a necklace embedded with blue crystals.
“I want to make a pact with you; give me a chance to pursue you.” Alagina extended her gloved hand holding the necklace, speaking very seriously to Fisher, “Once I settle down and when there are no more dangers, I will come back to you to fulfill my promise. Wherever you are, I will go there, and I will never go back on my word.”
“I’ll use this necklace as proof. But this is not coercion; if you wait too long, or if you want to refuse at any time, then I’ll consider my pursuit a failure, and you can throw this necklace away. In case of rejection, my father won’t be angry over this, at least I have sincerely made an effort for you. Moreover,”
As she spoke, her usually cold, fair face flushed a faint pink, and her voice lowered considerably as Alagina quietly said to Fisher,
“I can be down there too.”
Fisher was momentarily stunned, unable to think of how to respond. The longer the silence lasted, the more tense and awkward Alagina became; her face, tinged with a hint of pink, lowered slightly, afraid that Fisher would say something cold and frightening.
Just as the atmosphere was about to become completely awkward, the gentleman in front sighed and voluntarily reached out to accept the necklace from her hand, tucking the token-like item into his bosom.
“I understand; I will temporarily keep this necklace for you. It will stay safely with me until the pact is fulfilled.”
Seeing Fisher carefully take the necklace into his possession, Alagina’s face brightened up immediately, even her lips formed an unprecedented smile, as beautiful as the melting ice and snow under the morning sun.
Fisher smiled slightly, bade farewell to Alagina, and walked toward the light of Saint Nali outside the tunnel, leaving Alagina watching as the gentleman walked further away.
The one remaining in place felt her heart racing, faster than it had in years.
But she didn’t detest it; instead, she felt joy.
She pressed her hand against her chest, her cherry-colored lips pursed slightly, not following the gentleman’s footsteps, and her expression concealed.
Far behind them, several pirates squatting on the ground, chewing peanuts and squinting, watched the picturesque farewell scene in silence, as if they were witnessing the most captivating drama of Saint Nali, eager to see the next act.
Unfortunately, the handsome gentleman had already left.
“Oh, that guy is quite handsome; don’t look at me like that; I wouldn’t steal my friend’s man. I just said, in terms of looks, he’s not my type.”
“The captain is too innocent; how could she be so shy? She never shows any of that in battle.”
“I say, just tie that gentleman to the ship; he won’t be able to resist, and once she has kids, won’t he be at the captain’s beck and call?”
“Bah! You lecher! What do you know? The pursuit may be difficult, but once you achieve the result, it’s the sweetest thing in the world.”
The crew member who had said the captain was innocent frowned, looking at her fellow crewmates who were also watching the scene and the Fat First Mate, hesitatingly speculating,
“In front of that gentleman, the captain seems too green. She’s only 24; what if she meets someone slightly older? I mean, what if she encounters a bad man? How can the captain compete with others given her limited experience in love?”
Seeing her companions, who had also fallen silent, she waved her hands in panic, adding,
“I’m worried about the captain! What if she gets tricked? Oh my, that would be much more heartbreaking than having her treasures stolen!”
“Don’t curse the captain like that!”
“Exactly!”
The crew member who was scolded into silence pouted, watching Alagina turn back in their direction, having to suppress her “unrealistic” thoughts about Fisher deep in her heart.
With so many bad men, the captain would surely not run into one!
That’s what she thought.
