“So why did you agree, sister? Do you know how weak your body is? How can you go out like this?” Kira asked in confusion after Bai Ling left, questioning why Leticia had rejected her proposal.
Why would she put her sister in danger when she could have just bought the headphones?
She didn’t understand.
“Well, I feel like my body can already support daily activities. If not, a wheelchair could suffice,” Leticia explained in a soft voice, stroking the cat ears of the headphones. “But her condition is a very rare opportunity.”
To openly enter the Hero Association and see the current strength of human heroes.
“Even so, there’s no need for you to put yourself in danger.” Kira retorted. Couldn’t these tasks be done by subordinates? As the Demon King, there was no need for her to personally get involved.
Leticia smiled. Her sister’s concern was comforting, but she wouldn’t change her decision on a whim. “Don’t worry, that person named Bai won’t harm me.”
“Sister says she dislikes Sister Bai, but in truth, she still trusts her, doesn’t she?”
“That’s true. I do trust her. It’s a Demon King’s intuition, you know,” Leticia replied with a grin. “Just like I know my little Kira still likes me.”
Stroking her sister’s fluffy little head, Leticia recalled Kira’s childhood. Back then, Kira’s attitude towards her was a bit distant, and whenever she tried to pat her sister’s head, Kira would flick her hand away.
Of course, Kira still didn’t like being petted on the head much, but she could tolerate it if Leticia did it.
“I don’t like you at all.”
“I didn’t expect Kira to be tsundere too. It’s quite cute, hehe.” Kira’s paradoxical behavior made Leticia giggle.
Her little Kira was as cute as ever.
“Sister, you have no right to call me tsundere.” Kira stated that her tsundere tendency was nothing compared to her elder sister’s.
Hers was just a special state, while Leticia’s tsundere nature was permanent and max level.
“You little brat, when was I ever tsundere!” Leticia immediately declared that she had never been tsundere.
She, Leticia, the great Demon Queen, couldn’t possibly be tsundere.
“Heh.” Kira took a small step back, dodging Leticia’s hand. “Since Sister has already made up her mind, I’ll trust you this time. I still have a lot of official documents to approve. If Sister has time…”
“Ah, my stomach suddenly hurts so much.” Leticia’s expression changed, and she feigned clutching her stomach, groaning dramatically.
Even Kira could see through Leticia’s exaggerated acting.
“Never mind, as long as Sister is happy.” Kira glared at Leticia. “I really don’t know where the diligent Sister from before went.”
The previous Leticia was a ruthless work machine, capable of working sixteen hours a day.
Now, Leticia claimed that working sixteen minutes could drain her life force.
“The diligent Leticia has been killed. The current Leticia is the decadent Leticia.”
“Then bring back the diligent Sister, you decadent elder sister.” Kira stepped forward, pinched Leticia’s cheeks, and pulled them to the sides. “Believe it or not, I’ll hang you from a tree and beat you.”
“Why are you holding such a grudge, girl? It wasn’t intentional that time.” Leticia quickly defended herself. Wasn’t she forced into it?
If she hadn’t shown her ruthless side, how could she have convinced those nobles at the time?
What if a bunch of people had come asking for leniency under the guise of kinship? That would have been incredibly difficult to handle.
She had intended to deal with those nobles at that time, absolutely leaving them no room for maneuver.
And coincidentally, Kira had made a mistake then.
The mistake wasn’t severe, but it wasn’t minor either, and it happened to violate the laws Leticia had just enacted.
Then, Leticia performed a “kill the chicken to scare the monkey” tactic.
“Yes, Sister didn’t do it on purpose, but I was really sad, I thought Sister was going to abandon me.” Kira huffed. Of course, she didn’t hate her sister because she knew her sister had done it for their own good.
And she had indeed made a mistake, so being punished was only right.
“I will never abandon Kira,” Leticia said softly, pulling her sister into a hug. “Kira is my only family. I would abandon myself before I abandoned Kira.”
There was a slight issue with that statement. Leticia had quite a few relatives, and some of the greater nobles had at least a little bit of a connection to her.
After all, descendants of Demon Kings would sometimes intermarry with nobles, and some nobles were even descendants of former Demon Kings.
The current Demon King lineage was dwindling, primarily due to Leticia’s grandmother and mother. For some reason, the once-flourishing Demon King family was almost wiped out under their care.
“If Sister were to sacrifice herself to protect me, I would rather you not protect me.” Kira’s face flushed slightly as she struggled to break free from Leticia’s embrace. “It’s almost dinner time, and I have a lot to do. I’m going to the study now.”
With that, the young girl quickly ran out of the room without waiting for Leticia’s reply.
She was embarrassed.
“My sister is truly adorable.” Leticia smiled. Although she had been hesitant to meet Kira before, now that Kira had found her, she felt much more relaxed.
At least she no longer had to worry about an angry sister showing up and dragging her, the negligent elder sister, back to the demon realm to be locked up.
She could sleep soundly at night without dreaming of being imprisoned by her sister.
There were gains and losses. She couldn’t spend all her time on games, but she had gained a peaceful life. This trade-off was not unacceptable.
Sigh, she wouldn’t think about it anymore. She’d rather read manga. The heroines were still playing that game of “you know, I know, but we don’t say anything.” Leticia really wanted to rush in and tell them, “Stop acting, just get together already.”
But she couldn’t. She could only patiently read each page of the sweet daily lives of the two cute girls. The day they would finally reveal their feelings was clearly still far away.
Based on the author’s drawing style, it was likely that only when the manga ended would these two girls confess their feelings to each other and truly get together.
…
“You didn’t sleep well last night?” Bai Ling asked, looking at the drowsy girl as they sat in the smoothly moving car.
Leticia nodded slightly. “I was too excited watching manga. As soon as I closed my eyes, all I could think about was when those two little rascals would finally get together. As a result, I couldn’t sleep.”
Even holding her sister provided no solace for her sleeplessness. Only after midnight did she finally drift into a deep sleep, succumbing to her body’s protests.
This time, she wasn’t pulled into Flora’s manor. It seemed that after Leticia agreed to her request, Flora had no reason to drag her there anymore.
Of course, the most likely reason was that her true body had been taken away by Lin Qingyu, preventing her from pulling Leticia into her world for a chat.
“Then you can rest a bit more in the car. It takes quite a while to drive from our place to the Hero Association,” Bai Ling suggested.
From the suburbs to the Hero Association in the city center, even with good traffic, it took about an hour. If they encountered traffic jams or other issues, the time required could double.
This was why Bai Ling usually traveled on foot. Leaping between tall buildings was much faster and more convenient than crawling on the ground like a turtle in a car. And since the existence of superhumans wasn’t a secret, ordinary people had a high tolerance for figures leaping across skyscrapers.
At least, it wouldn’t lead to an awkward situation where everyone below would immediately whip out their phones and call the police if someone jumped around above.
However, since she was bringing Leticia, who temporarily had zero mobility, Bai Ling had to call for a car. The two of them squeezed into the car, slowly making their way there.
The word “squeezed” might not be entirely accurate. The backseat of this car was actually quite spacious. It could comfortably seat two girls, with plenty of room. The feeling of being cramped was entirely due to Bai Ling leaning closer to Leticia as soon as they got in.
This made Leticia feel like the distance between her and Bai Ling was too close, hence, a bit cramped.
However, as the car started and the suppressed drowsiness gradually resurfaced, Leticia stopped paying attention. “Where did you send that Lin Qingyu?”
“To a very safe place. Don’t ask too many questions, just get some sleep,” Bai Ling told Leticia.
“I’m just worried that you say you’re sending her to a safe place, but you actually send her into a tiger’s den,” Leticia mumbled indistinctly, propping her head up.
“Even if something goes wrong, I will take responsibility to resolve it.”
“I hope so. If she really gets captured, I hope you’ll just kill her directly.”
“Hmm? Why?”
“Who knows what secrets she has? What if she has something that can threaten us, and that thing falls into the hands of the elves because she was taken back? Wouldn’t that be a huge problem?” Leticia yawned again. “So, it’s better to just kill her. If you can’t do it, I will. Just don’t interfere.”
“Considering this now, isn’t it too…” Bai Ling’s words were cut off as she saw the girl beside her swaying precariously, about to fall.
Was she that sleepy?
Supporting Leticia with her hand and placing her head on her lap, Bai Ling planned to discuss Lin Qingyu after Leticia woke up.
However, Leticia wasn’t asleep yet.
She was just a little dazed earlier. Now, with Bai Ling’s action, her sleepiness vanished instantly.
What was happening? Why was she being placed on her lap directly?
What was going on?
Leticia was stunned. The feel of Bai Ling’s thigh was exceptionally good, so soft and yielding that she wanted to stay there.
Bai Ling always wore short skirts or shorts. Today, Bai Ling was wearing a rather short skirt, and beneath it were sheer white stockings. From Leticia’s current perspective, she could even see the flesh of her thigh slightly squeezed by the garter belt.
It was truly amazing.
Should she resist?
Leticia really wanted to resist, but she felt the sleepiness that had just left her returning with full force.
This time, she would probably really fall asleep.
Sleeping against a chair versus sleeping with her head on a girl’s lap, it didn’t seem like a choice.
Well, she was using Bai Ling’s thigh as a pillow. She wasn’t at a disadvantage, Leticia told herself.
Soft and fragrant, she had a premonition that she would have a good dream.
Bai Ling knew that Leticia hadn’t actually been asleep. She had actually taken a risky action, thinking that if Leticia didn’t refuse, she could spend over an hour like this with Leticia.
However, the probability was quite low. Bai Ling had already prepared herself to be scolded by Leticia, but she never expected that Leticia wouldn’t even bother with a token resistance.
She just… fell asleep?
Gently poking the girl’s slightly flushed cheek with her finger and softly calling her name, Bai Ling confirmed that Leticia was truly tired after receiving no response.
Otherwise, how could she have fallen asleep so silently? She would have definitely struggled a bit on the surface, and if Bai Ling had acted a bit tougher, there was a chance she would have obediently fallen asleep.
It should have been like this.
But without the intermediate step of Kira’s “mouth says no, heart says yes,” it felt so wrong.
Was the person on her lap not the real Leticia?
No, it couldn’t be.
It was probably because she was too tired, so she didn’t have the energy to go through the usual formalities. Bai Ling tried to convince herself.
The girl lying on her lap was real. That was enough. She didn’t need to think about anything else.
“Drive slower and steadier,” Bai Ling said in a low voice to the woman in the driver’s seat.
“Understood.”
Bai Ling could drive, but the cars she drove were more on the wild side, capable of crashing into anything. She couldn’t pass the regular driver’s license test.
Because sometimes, this girl’s thought process was quite peculiar. To prevent the residents of Central City from suffering due to that peculiar thought process, Senior Sang decisively decided not to issue Bai Ling a license.
This made Bai Ling, who greatly enjoyed the “bumper car” game, somewhat displeased.
“Senior Sang seems to be coming today as well. Should I have them sit separately?” Bai Ling began to ponder another issue in her mind.
…
“Mmm… mmm?!” Leticia opened her slightly bewildered eyes after a pleasant sleep.
“Are you awake?” Noticing the girl’s movement, Bai Ling asked softly, afraid of startling her if she was still asleep.
In her daze, Leticia placed one hand on Bai Ling’s lap and straightened her body.
“How long did I sleep?” Patting her face vigorously, Leticia felt much more awake.
“An hour, not long,” Bai Ling replied, looking at the scenery outside the window, which had changed significantly. “We still have some way to go to the Hero Association headquarters.”
“I see.” Leticia nodded, then she remembered what she had been sleeping on just now.
Her cute little face instantly flushed red. Sleeping with her head on another girl’s lap was incredibly stimulating.
Even though the provider of the lap was Bai Ling, someone Leticia disliked intensely, this fact couldn’t mask that it was a girl’s lap.
Moreover, the tactile sensation was excellent.
“Are you shy?” Bai Ling reached out and touched Leticia’s face, noticing that the girl’s face was a bit hot. This should be a sign of shyness.
“Are you kidding me?” Leticia slapped Bai Ling’s hand away, firmly denying that she was shy.
This was just a normal reaction upon waking up!
Although even Leticia didn’t believe what she said.
But there were only two people in the car; the driver obviously wouldn’t contradict Leticia, and Bai Ling knew it was best not to go against Leticia in such situations.
Perhaps she had managed to slip by.
For the rest of the journey, Leticia chatted with Bai Ling about trivial matters. Their usual bickering had become something that Leticia found completely unremarkable.
When the car finally stopped in a parking spot, Leticia realized they had arrived in front of the Hero Association headquarters.
While Leticia was spacing out, Bai Ling got out of the car early and retrieved a foldable wheelchair from the trunk.
With the help of the driver in black, Bai Ling quickly assembled the wheelchair and then pushed it to Leticia’s door, opening it for her.
“I’m not so weak that I can’t even walk.” Leticia felt this was underestimating her. She had recovered considerably.
The weakness and powerlessness from a few days ago had completely disappeared, leaving only a slight fatigue that still bothered Leticia.
She could walk independently.
“I’m afraid you’ll be like the day before yesterday.” Bai Ling didn’t say it outright, but everyone knew which incident she was referring to.
It was definitely the time when Leticia fell by the bedside while trying to turn off the lights.
“I’m completely different from who I was the day before yesterday!” Leticia protested, claiming she could now defeat five of her past selves.
But Bai Ling stated that whether it was the current Leticia or the Leticia from the day before yesterday, she still needed to be taken care of in Bai Ling’s eyes.
“Either be supported by me or ride in the wheelchair pushed by me. Choose one.” Bai Ling presented Leticia with a choice.
If she had to choose between the two, Leticia would choose a third option: “I’ll walk myself.”
“Don’t be silly.” Bai Ling, however, told Leticia that she didn’t have a third option.
After seriously considering the difference in strength between them, Leticia felt it might be better to yield for now.
“Then the wheelchair it is.”
The Hero Association seemed to be holding some kind of event today. Leticia saw many ordinary people passing by their car. Judging by the excited and happy expressions on their faces, it probably wasn’t a bad thing.
Being supported by Bai Ling to walk in front of so many people would be worse than being pushed in a wheelchair by her.
“Mhm.” Bai Ling reached out, intending to help Leticia out of the car.
But Leticia, quite uncooperatively, jumped down directly. Not only did she jump down, but before sitting in the wheelchair, she even bounced twice on the spot, showing that she was fully capable of independent movement.
Bai Ling found this defiant action rather cute. She smiled nonchalantly and pushed Leticia towards the Hero Association headquarters.
Along the way, she explained to Leticia the reason for the large crowd today.
“Every month, the Hero Association holds an awards and promotion ceremony to reward heroes who performed exceptionally well in the previous month. These people are here to attend the ceremony.”
“Oh, spectators?” Leticia indicated that she understood. Wasn’t it just for show?
“No, they are all important figures from Central City. Attending the ceremony is also to find heroes to collaborate with,” Bai Ling shook her head. “The commercial value of heroes is very high.”
Especially those renowned superheroes; the products they endorsed sold exceptionally well.
As for heroes with lesser fame, they could provide some martial prowess protection to their collaborators, giving these important figures some confidence when dealing with certain individuals.
“But aren’t we here to watch training?”
“Yes, so our destination is different from theirs.” Bai Ling explained. “It just happens to be the day of the ceremony today.”
Training was conducted daily, but the elders of the Hero Association had scheduled their meeting with Bai Ling for today, so it coincided.
Of course, the deeper meaning behind this was debatable. After all, choosing this particular day, not too early and not too late, might have some hidden intentions.
“We’re going through the side entrance.” As she spoke, Bai Ling had already pushed the wheelchair, separating from the main group, and headed towards the other side of the colossal building.
The main entrance today was for those attending the ceremony. Bai Ling didn’t have an invitation and didn’t want to get involved in such matters, so she naturally planned to use the side entrance to go directly to the training ground.
But what surprised Bai Ling was that the door she intended to use was blocked by circles upon circles of reporters. Those with long lenses and cameras were surrounding this less-trafficked door, doing who knows what.
Sensing someone approaching, a young female reporter wearing a blue baseball cap scurried over. “Excuse me, are you two heroes from the Hero Association?”
Bai Ling nodded, then shook her head. “I used to be, she is not.”
After answering the young lady’s question, she posed her own: “What are you all gathered here for?”
“Don’t you know? Miss ‘Diva’ is coming here today, and we figured she wouldn’t use the main entrance, so we’re waiting here in advance.”
“However, if it’s a retired hero returning to headquarters, they’re more likely to use the sky entrance.” Bai Ling pointed to the rooftop of the headquarters building. ” ‘Diva,’ she can fly.”
