Chapter: Chapter 124
Firmly driving away Bai Ling, who was still trying to linger as her younger sister, Qira turned off the lights, locked the door, and looked back at her older sister.
“Huh? Why are you looking at me?” Leticia scratched her head in confusion. “Is there something wrong with my face?”
Qira shook her head.
“Is my hair messy?”
Shaking her head again.
“Do you want to give your sister a goodnight kiss?”
A pair of tender little fists smacked Leticia on the head.
“Qira, why did you hit me?” Leticia clutched her head and asked indignantly.
What did she do? Why was she hit?
Qira sighed and burrowed into the warm embrace of the blankets, already heated by her sister’s body temperature. “I just feel like you’re different than before, sister.”
“Ah, different? How so?” Leticia asked curiously.
“It’s nothing, just an illusion.” Qira hugged Leticia’s arm and yawned. “Let’s go to sleep, sister.”
“Are you very tired?” Leticia glanced at the clock. It was only 9:30. For Leticia, a night owl who stayed up late, this was no different than midday.
Qira’s usual bedtime was after ten, around eleven. In situations like today, it only happened when Qira was very tired.
“Mhm, there’s been a lot going on lately,” Qira mumbled, snuggling into Leticia’s arms.
Dealing with these matters had consumed a great deal of her energy, which was why she was so exhausted.
“Is that so? How about I handle those things tomorrow, and you can have a day of rest, Qira?”
“Those things are what you’re supposed to be handling, sister.” Qira’s hand slipped inside Leticia’s clothes, and she gently pinched her sister’s waist.
Leticia let out a soft gasp, not from pain. Qira’s pinch was very light, more like a tickle than a pinch.
However, Leticia’s waist was incredibly sensitive, almost one of her most ticklish spots.
After Qira’s little pinch, Leticia’s face immediately flushed red.
She playfully punched her sister with a hint of annoyance and whispered, “Go to sleep quickly and stop messing around.”
“Hehehe.”
Holding her soft and fragrant sister, Leticia felt no sleepiness. Her sleep time hadn’t arrived yet.
Qira was already fast asleep in her arms. Leticia carefully brushed aside a strand of hair from her sister’s face, gazing intently at her face in the darkness.
Qira had grown into a very beautiful young lady. In a few more years, she worried she might not be as attractive as Qira.
Unlike Leticia, Qira’s development had been a little slow, but she was still developing. In the foreseeable future, Qira would surely blossom into a very beautiful girl, and when walking with her, Leticia suspected people would mistake her for the younger sister.
Of course, no matter how well Qira developed, she wouldn’t reach Candice’s level. Leticia estimated her sister’s development would at most reach Bai Ling’s level.
It was a family trait. Girls from the Demon King family were all like this.
Leticia was considered to be of average height within the Demon King family. In the past, many Demon Kings had developed even less than Leticia.
She was probably a slightly overripe loli, a little bit, but a bit bigger than an average loli.
And some Demon Kings, judging by portraits passed down, were truly loli, some even leaning towards childlike.
It was a mystery why the Demon King bloodline produced such individuals. There was no oppressive aura at all.
Leticia couldn’t imagine those rulers in the history books of the demon race, who were brilliant strategist and led the demon race to conquer the demon world, were actually adorable, petite, black-haired lolis.
It was very strange, truly strange.
“Haaaa, I’ll keep you company and get an early night’s sleep today.” Leticia closed her eyes, thinking that an early sleep couldn’t hurt.
So she thought, but when she opened her eyes at five o’clock and realized she couldn’t fall back asleep, Leticia was stunned.
Did sleeping early really make her wake up this early the next day?
Gazing at the hazy sky outside the window, Leticia wasn’t sure what to do.
Gently releasing Qira from her embrace, Leticia tiptoed out of bed, opened the bedroom door, and walked out.
“Your Majesty?” Xue’er, who was already cleaning the living room, looked up curiously. Waking up this early was unlike her Majesty’s usual style. “Are you going to the restroom?”
“I went to bed too early last night, so now I’m awake and can’t fall back asleep.” Leticia didn’t deny Xue’er’s guess, as she did indeed need to use the restroom to take care of some physiological needs.
“Alright, what would Your Majesty like for breakfast today?”
“Ah, whatever you think is best, Xue’er. I truly trust your cooking.” Before entering the bathroom, Leticia gave Xue’er a thumbs-up.
“Thank you for your trust, Your Majesty.”
After finishing her business and performing a simple wash, Leticia emerged from the bathroom.
Xue’er had already started preparing breakfast, but it looked like it would take some more time to finish.
Should she just sit and wait?
After careful consideration, Leticia decided to go to the study to see what was making Qira so mentally and physically exhausted.
If there was too much, she would help her poor sister handle these matters.
Look at her, how selfless she was! You couldn’t find a better sister if you carried a lantern!
She completely forgot that these matters were originally her responsibility.
“Xue’er, if I’m not back when you’re done, please bring breakfast to the study.” Leticia told Xue’er.
“Ah, alright.” Xue’er paused for a moment, then understood Leticia’s intention.
Did Her Majesty intend to shoulder her responsibilities again?
Wonderful, Xue’er had been waiting for this day for a long time!
Her joyful emotions enhanced Xue’er’s cooking skills, and she successfully prepared a perfect breakfast that even she marveled at.
Carrying the breakfast infused with her heartfelt effort, Xue’er pushed open the study door.
Then, she was almost hit by a crumpled piece of paper flying out of the study.
“Your Majesty, what is this…” Seeing the study already in disarray after only a few minutes, Xue’er was momentarily bewildered.
What happened?
Leticia sat in the spot Qira had occupied, holding a feather pen, her anger evident on her face. “These incompetent officials, they report even such trivial matters? What about their brains? Have they been eaten?”
“I don’t keep them to ask me what to do; I want their ideas!”
Unlike Qira, who preferred to handle things hands-on, Leticia had always disliked dealing with minor details. She felt her precious time shouldn’t be wasted on such things.
With that extra time, wouldn’t it be better to practice or have afternoon tea?
Even the diligent Leticia was reluctant to handle these matters, let alone the current lazy Demon King who didn’t even want to handle important matters.
“It seems I need to issue a decree.” Leticia crumpled another report and threw it on the floor. “If they dare to report these matters that they can clearly handle themselves again, I’ll beat them to death.”
The thought of Qira dealing with such things all these years made Leticia furious.
“Your Highness Qira has this habit of meticulousness, and that was her own request,” Xue’er spoke up in defense of the demon officials who submitted these reports. “I heard that if any matters were found to be concealed, Your Highness Qira would even punish them.”
Leticia frowned. “But there’s just too much of it.”
“Your Highness Qira doesn’t pore over every single one,” Xue’er stated that Qira wasn’t foolish. “Perhaps, Your Highness simply wants to use this method to remind those officials that the demon race isn’t without someone in charge, right?”
After Leticia ran away from home, although the Demon King’s residual power remained, some people couldn’t help but harbor strange thoughts.
When Qira took up the mantle in such a situation, allowing the demon race to advance stably for so many years, the effort she put in was undoubtedly substantial.
“Sigh, sometimes I really envy ordinary people who don’t have to deal with these troublesome matters.” Leticia sighed and took a sip of brown sugar water from the tray Xue’er had just brought.
The water temperature was just right, and the sweetness was perfect, just as expected of Xue’er’s cooking.
After quickly finishing breakfast, Leticia buried herself in processing the things Qira hadn’t managed to get to.
When Qira woke up, found her sister gone, and rushed to look for her, Leticia had already processed more than half of the reports on the desk.
Once she got back into the swing of things, Leticia’s work efficiency was much higher than Qira’s.
“Sister?” Qira rubbed her eyes. What did she see?
Her sister had actually started working voluntarily?
Was she still dreaming?
“You go eat breakfast first. Xue’er should have it ready by now.” Leticia said without looking up. “After you eat, rest well. I’ll handle today’s work.”
As she spoke, Leticia set aside a report with her opinions written on it, then picked up the next report, glanced at it, and casually threw it away.
“Sister, don’t just casually discard them.” Qira quickly picked up the crumpled paper that Leticia had discarded.
“It’s just废纸, don’t mind it.” Leticia crumpled another piece of paper and threw it on the floor. “Let them handle these small matters themselves.”
Leaving them here was a complete waste of her time.
This was Leticia’s work habit, completely the opposite of Qira’s. No one knew why such a huge personality gap existed between these sisters born of the same parents.
Qira let out a helpless sigh. Since her sister had said so, how could she, as her sister, object?
Leticia was the Demon King, not her, Qira.
When her sister slacked off and didn’t work, she could do things for her, but now that her sister had started working, she, as the younger sister, could only cheer from the sidelines.
Not long after, Bai Ling, who visited regularly, entered the study and saw Leticia working diligently. She turned to Xue’er and asked, “Did she take the wrong medicine?”
“Who are you calling medicated? If you have nothing to do, get lost.” Leticia glared at Bai Ling. “Don’t you see I’m working hard?”
“It’s just that I rarely see you so serious, I’m a little surprised.” Bai Ling walked over to Leticia, wanting to see what she was writing.
But Leticia quickly shielded what she was writing and impatiently began to shoo her away. “Get away, get away, this is demon race classified information. You human, quickly leave.”
“Oh, then make haste. I’ll wait for you outside.” Bai Ling grudgingly left the study accompanied by Xue’er.
Meanwhile, in the living room, Qira, who had nothing to do, was watching the news on TV. Hearing the movement behind her, she turned her head and met eyes with Bai Ling, who had an unhappy expression.
“Good morning, Sister Bai.” Qira greeted Bai Ling with a smile.
Although she still held a prejudice against Bai Ling, Qira maintained impeccable outward politeness towards her hidden ally.
Greeting each other with a smile was a must.
“Morning, Qira.” Since her sister wasn’t around, Bai Ling directly called Qira by her real name. “Why has Leticia suddenly started working seriously?”
“My sister…” Qira shook her head. Perhaps seeing how tired she was last night, her sister wanted to share some of the burden.
Her sister had always been like this, saying one thing but doing another.
She had been resisting work, yet upon seeing her tiredness, she had woken up early to take over her tasks without a word.
Truly, it made Qira feel somewhat moved.
“Leticia is a very good sister,” Bai Ling guessed the reason. “Much better than me as a sister.”
“Not at all, my sister is just a big bad,” Qira pouted, indicating that today’s actions alone wouldn’t redeem Leticia’s bad image in her eyes. “To make me shoulder the entire demon race alone, how could she do that?”
Running off to enjoy herself in the human world while leaving Qira alone to act as the Demon King, was that the act of a qualified sister?
“She probably has her own reasons, right?” Bai Ling chuckled awkwardly and sat beside Qira.
Leticia’s reason for coming to the human world was something Bai Ling had always wondered about.
She had only said her mental state had collapsed, but Bai Ling didn’t feel Leticia’s mental state was that broken at all.
The first time she saw Bai Ling, Leticia had been able to remain calm. After a few more encounters, Leticia even dared to jump at her.
Was this the sign of a collapsed mental state and lingering psychological trauma?
“Nonsense! She just didn’t want to do it anymore,” Qira stated vehemently that Leticia was a bad sister. “Otherwise, why would she run away?”
Even if she had been tied up and beaten by her at that time, she could have accepted it, but running away without a word, what was that?
“Even if she had beaten me up and hung me up then, I could’ve accepted it, but running away without a word, what exactly is this?” Qira punched the sofa, her voice filled with grievance.
Facing the aggrieved Qira, Bai Ling didn’t know what to say. The matter of Leticia’s escape ultimately seemed to point back to her.
If she hadn’t defeated Leticia, Leticia wouldn’t have become so dejected and wouldn’t have gone into hiding in the human world years ago.
Bai Ling probably had to take responsibility for this.
“Can you tell me why Leticia became like this?” Bai Ling asked cautiously.
Given Leticia’s personality, she wouldn’t likely become so dejected from a single defeat. She was the most courageous and powerful of the Demon Kings of the past few generations. Becoming so dispirited from one setback was highly unusual.
Qira also didn’t know the answer to this question.
“Actually, in the first few months of her recovery, although my sister was a bit withdrawn, she still completed her duties properly. However, from a certain day onwards, she completely shut herself away,” Qira recalled the time when her sister was recovering from her injuries years ago, a hint of confusion in her eyes.
She could never guess what her sister was thinking, and she had no way of knowing what had happened that day.
Perhaps Xue’er knew something, but without Leticia’s permission, Qira couldn’t force Xue’er to reveal what she didn’t want to say.
“But something must have happened, otherwise, my sister wouldn’t have become this way.”
As soon as Qira finished speaking, a small fist landed on her head. “You little brat, what do you mean, ‘what have I become’?”
“Ouch, Sister, you finished those things so quickly?” Qira clutched her head and countered with a sheepish smile.
Leticia released her fist and casually ruffled her sister’s head. “You have quite the nerve to talk about your sister behind her back.”
“No! Where did I say anything bad about you?” Qira immediately declared her unwavering affection for her sister and vowed never to be a bad sister who spoke ill of her behind her back.
Fiercely poking her sister’s forehead, the Demon King, Miss, said to her sister who was now cradling her head, “Those unpleasant things are in the past. Don’t overthink it.”
“Then you could have just told me, since it’s already passed.”
“Children shouldn’t overthink things.” Leticia pulled Qira up from the sofa. “Come on, let’s go to the room. This person probably has something to discuss with me.”
“What if I just wanted to see you?”
“Then I can only suggest you get lost immediately.” Leticia retorted unceremoniously. “I hope you’re not that boring and waste my precious time at a moment like this.”
“Ahem, I actually do have something this time.” Bai Ling coughed twice and put on a serious expression.
Qira’s steps halted. She felt that if it was a serious matter, she could stay and listen.
After all, it would be beneficial for her sister to offer some advice.
Two heads are better than one.
“Oh, let’s hear it.” Leticia, of course, didn’t miss Qira’s subtle movement. However, the Demon King didn’t mind; she would be happy if Qira wanted to stay and use her brain.
When it came to schemes and tricks, Leticia had long ago admitted that she wasn’t as cunning as Qira.
This princess was literally brimming with mischief. Only she would dare to throw a fire moth into the elven forest.
Even now, the elves were still frantically dealing with the aftermath.
The poor empress was even more unfortunate, having become the focal point of the conflict. Most elves privately grumbled about this half-elf.
They said it was because the empress’s bloodline was impure that this situation had occurred, and if the empress’s bloodline were pure, such a thing wouldn’t have happened.
When Leticia heard these rumors, she almost burst out laughing. Those pointy-eared folk had truly low intelligence. To shift the blame to the Elven Empress, a mere figurehead, was utterly hilarious.
“According to our inside sources, the elf who launched the sneak attack most likely belongs to the Elven Elder Council.” Bai Ling said very seriously.
Leticia looked at Bai Ling as if she were an idiot.
“Ah? What’s wrong?” Bai Ling was confused. Isn’t this important news?
Leticia covered her face. “Theoretically speaking, anyone who would do such a thing outside the elven race certainly belongs to the Elven Elder Council.”
“Ah, this is the first I’ve heard of it.”
“If you could identify which department she belongs to, that would be truly important news. But with you simply saying she belongs to the Elven Elder Council, aren’t you making a fool of yourself by showing how ignorant you are?”
Bai Ling lowered her head in shame. “I don’t understand these things.”
Leticia patted Bai Ling’s shoulder. “It’s okay, I understand your intelligence.”
Why did that sound so weird?
“Unless we catch that elf, we’ll never know which department she belongs to.” Leticia continued. “So, Miss Bai, be more effective, find that elf.”
Bai Ling’s eyes widened. How could she be effective? She didn’t understand any of these things.
The simplest method she could think of now was to charge into the elven race with her sword, capture all those old men from the Elder Council, and question them one by one about who sent the elf to the human race.
If they couldn’t say, she’d kill them with a sword. If they did say, they’d be the culprit and also killed with a sword.
This approach could easily lead to some undesirable consequences. Slaughtering the Elven Elder Council wouldn’t be any less drastic than Bai Ling’s surprise attacks on rulers of various races years ago.
“These things can’t be rushed, and Sister Bai is already trying her best to find them, right?” Qira interjected.
“Qira, don’t defend her. I should say, her friends have started looking. As for her, she’s probably staying at home and waiting for the news to be delivered to her.” Leticia looked at Bai Ling, a slight smile playing on her lips. “Right, Miss Bai?”
Bai Ling’s face turned a little red. Leticia’s words perfectly captured her current state.
She possessed immense power but had no outlet for it. She could fight, but when it came to finding a culprit, Miss Bai was completely clueless.
“So, you see…” Leticia intended to further tease Bai Ling, but Bai Ling preemptively acted, interrupting Leticia’s monologue.
“Wuwuwuwu! Wuwu!”
Seeing her sister with her mouth covered and Bai Ling looking helpless, Qira felt she might truly be the superfluous one.
Can’t these two stop doing these things so openly in front of others!
